decades. The commercial transportation industry all over the globe has seen a major boom in the
recent years. Hence, it has become very easy for the people to visit different places through
flights as they have become cheaper and more convenient due to the technological advancements
in airlines sector. Moreover, the travel and tourism industry has also received help and support
from government because it helps the country boost up its economy (Mohsin et al. 2016). The
following study is about the travel and tourism industry and its performance at a global level. It
has included the different factors that are influencing the travel and tourism industry and also
includes different strategies that are used by the companies of this sector in order to attract more

LO1 – Examining the scale and nature of global tourism
Statistical overview of the nature and trends of tourism on a global scale [P1]
The travel and tourism industry in United Kingdom is growing significantly fast because of the
attractive destinations present in the country that attracts visitors from all over the world. The
countries with high population density like India and China generate majority of the traffic of
tourism for United Kingdom. As per the existing scenario, the travel and tourism industry in
United Kingdom supports almost 3 million jobs which is a significantly high population of the
entire country. The overall work of travel and tourism industry in the country is likely to go
beyond £257 billion by 2025. Hence, it is expected that tourism industry will contribute
approximately 10% to the entire GDP of written by 2025. The United Kingdom is visited by
almost 37.7 million people every year and stands at 7th position in terms of tourist population.
Considering its ranking in terms of revenue generation from travel and tourism industry, the
United Kingdom stands at the 8th position which earns above $36 billion every year from
visitors all over the world (Raza et al. 2017).
Investigating the characteristics of key tourist generating and receiving areas of the
world [P2]
The countries that generate the highest number of tourist population are from the two major
Asian countries India and China along with United States and Australia. The most significant
characteristic of the Asian countries is the huge amount of population staying in a comparatively
smaller area. Hence, the presence of open areas that can be viewed as scenic beauty are achieved
by the people of these countries mostly in European Nations due to which they tend to visit
European countries more often. Considering United States of America and Australia, the visitors
from these countries come to Europe because of the historical significance of British Empire. In
addition to this, several other ancient Empires like Roman and Greek Empire along with their
remains as unique and magnificent infrastructure also attract people from all over the world. The
lack of infrastructure in India is also an important reason and characteristic due to which it
generates a huge tourism population in UK. Same is the case with China where it has beautiful
infrastructure but it is very less compared to the population and therefore the people from China
open visit United Kingdom and other European Nations like Switzerland Italy for tourism
purposes (Shahzad et al. 2017).
Document Page
The top most countries that receive highest number of tourists as well as highest revenue from
different parts of the globe include the European Nations apart from United States and China.
The most prominent characteristics of these tourism receiving areas include a well organized
combination of natural and manmade infrastructure. In addition to this, maintaining proper safety
and security along with cleanliness in its locations also play a significant role in attracting the
tourists. Another important characteristic that attracts tourist is the connectivity and availability
of unique recreational activities. The local culture and natural ecosystem also plays a significant
role as many people from different parts of the world come to visit the natural scenic beauty
destinations in the European countries (Chiu and Yeh, 2017).
Analysis of the influence of emerging economies on the nature and scale of tourism
on a global level [M1]
China and India are the two fastest growing up economies all over the world due to which the
opportunities of job and investment in these countries are very high. Hence, people are more
likely to look for better opportunities after having access to all global destinations considering
their awareness and affordability. Therefore, the people of India and China are more likely to
visit different places on earth in order to find even better opportunities. This also includes the
demand of higher education of good quality which are despite being available in India and China
are inadequate as per the population tractor. Moreover, people of these countries are becoming
more rich due to which they can easily afford to visit expensive tourist destinations located in
European Nations. As a result of this, the scale of tourism is increasing at a significant rate on a
global scale. The nature of tourism has also experienced massive changes in the last few decades.
The visitors are coming to the European Nations not only for recreational and Tourism courses
but also for educational purposes and job opportunities. The technological advancements in
terms of automobile sector in countries like Italy, UK, and Germany has resulted into the
attraction of people from many countries. In addition to this, people are visiting visa countries
for or experiencing natural scenic beauty of waterside bodies and also to spend some time being
away from the urban chaos. Historical tourism is also a prominent nature of tourism that has
emerged in the recent few decades after the governments of United Kingdom and other European
Nations have started maintaining the historical assets and promoting the same as tourist
destinations (Falk, 2016).

Critical evaluation of the impact of both key and emerging markets and significant
factors affecting global tourism [D1]
The primary emerging markets of tourism in United Kingdom include tourism for education and
job related purpose apart from historical tourism that constitutes with England the remains of
British Empire that once ruled a huge portion of the world. The urban infrastructure has also
significantly contributed towards the emerging market of global tourism in United Kingdom
because people from many countries come to visit the man made infrastructures like Tower
Bridge London and the London Eye. The significant factors that affect global tourism include
connectivity and affordability as the most prominent factors. The number of people visiting any
place would be higher if the connectivity to that place is frequent (Williams and Horodnic,
2017). Similarly, more people will visit the places if visiting those locations are within their
affordable limits. The safety factor also constitutes as an important factor in attracting tourists
because people will never prefer to visit places that is vulnerable to terrorist activities and other
anti-social elements.
LO2 – Assessing the growth and characteristics of emerging markets and
destination regions
Determine the specific reasons for the growth of key global tourism generating and
receiving areas of the world [P3]
The most significant reason of global tourism generating areas in the world is the lack of
availability of natural and urban infrastructure. The presence of limited variety of culture is also
an important reason due to which some areas generate huge population of tourists. This includes
the United States of America where the western culture is the only culture primarily followed
and therefore they come to European Nations like United Kingdom to witness the remains of
different cultural existences. The receiving countries of tourism include United Kingdom as one
of the top countries in the world. The main reason of tourism in the country is the Urban
Development and offering of a wide range of recreational facilities. The waterside holiday group
Limited is one of the best performing travel and tourism companies in United Kingdom which is
functioning since the last 50 years. People usually visit this place because they are able to
witness a sense of peace and calmness because of the ambience that has been created at the

locations. The recreational facilities like boating, fishing, surfing, trekking, and various other
sports facilities are also responsible for the growth of tourism in the location. Moreover, the
people also experience the luxurious living for short durations here and preferred to meet
strangers and other interesting people (Antonakakis et al. 2015).
Comparing and contrasting the differences between a range of emerging global
tourism destinations in relation to stages of different life cycles, factors, driving
growth, and strategies employed [P4]
The main tourism destinations that are emerging since the last few decades include unique
experiences that are not available to the people. In order to promote the same, the companies that
are associated with travel and tourism businesses are implementing several strategies. The most
effective strategy that has been implemented by the waterside holiday group Limited is to create
attractive infrastructure using natural beauty of the locations and some urban infrastructural
arrangements on them. Tourism is emerging at a wide range on a global level due to which
people are being able to meet the requirements about medical facilities, recreational activities,
and even job and education related opportunities. The United Kingdom offers a wide range of
tourism destinations for the visitors which include luxurious living as well as witnessing the
cultural significance. The government has been able to maintain historical museums that consists
the remains of prehistoric era which can be used to educate the people about the things that used
to exist during those centuries. Medical tourism in United Kingdom has seen a definition in the
recent few decades because of the high cost at which treatments are provided. India has taken
over England Britain terms of medical tourism because India provides high quality treatment at
cheaper rates (Airey et al. 2015).
Evaluation and of comparison of the importance of different factors affecting and
driving tourism statistical trends in a range of different global regions [M2]
One of the major factors that affect tourism is the income of people because it required huge
money to visit different places. Therefore, the growth and development of travel and tourism
sector is directly associated with the income of potential visitors. Another important factor is the
presence of different destinations in a country. The United Kingdom as discussed has a wide
range of tourist destination options available with them. Hence, it is important to maintain and
promote those places so that it can attract more tourists. The cost effectiveness and availability of

easy modes of transportation also counter Monk the most effective factors that drive the
statistical trends in tourism. The most visited city of United Kingdom that is London has a well
connected network of roads and rail to allow the visitors visit the places within the city.
Similarly, the Heathrow International Airport of London also has direct and connecting flights
from all the major tourist destinations the entire world. The statistical figures of over 37 million
tourists visiting United Kingdom every year has been largely influenced by the connectivity
factor (Alegre and Sard, 2015).
LO3 – Exploring the roles of key organisations in development of global
tourism
Investigating the roles and responsibilities of international organisations in the
development of global tourism [P5]
The Global organisation that regulates accessibility and sustainability of tourism all over the
world is the United Nations World Tourism Organisation or UNWTO. The main responsibility
of this organisation is to promote tourism of different parts of the world and help a country
receive economic strength due to the tourism business. The organisation also possesses the
responsibility of implementing essential codes of ethics related to tourism so that it does not puts
too much restrictions on the tourists. The organisation works according to the objectives of
United Nations sustainable development goals so that it can be eliminated from the countries by
promoting tourism in the local areas (Isik et al. 2018).
Evaluating the significance of organisations in the growth and development of
global tourism [M3]
In order to promote, grow and develop tourism at global level, it is important that the
international authorities like UNWTO monitors the travel and tourism related activities all over
the world. It is important that the rules and regulations formulated by the organisation are in
accordance to the cultural significance of different countries. The International rights of tourists
are also regulated by the UNWTO. There are many locally operated organisations that are
affiliated to the membership of UNWTO which has its headquarters located in Madrid. It
constantly monitors the revenue generated from travel and tourism by any country and helps the

countries lagging behind to enhance their infrastructure and promote their natural tourist
destinations in order to attract people from different countries (Paramati et al. 2017).
LO4 – Major threats, issues and challenges to the future development of
global tourism
Significance of various threats, issues and challenges to the future of global tourism
[P6]
Despite the increasing scopes and statistical figures of income related to tourism all over the
world, there are some major threats, issues and challenges that must be dealt with immediately.
The most prominent issue all over the world nowadays is global terrorism due to which the
tourism is getting affected in a negative sense. There have been many incidents related to to
religious terrorism in European Nations especially France and United Kingdom due to which
people from different places have restraint from visiting these places. In addition to this
economic and political turmoil and instability in any country is likely to affect the tourism sector
of the country adversely. The attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine headquarters in Paris along with
the attack on visitors celebrating Bastille Day in France are some common examples. Moreover,
political instability in Paris like the yellow vest protests also influence tourism. The United
Kingdom is also facing some troubles because of the refugee crisis in Middle East and therefore
it's a significant challenge for the government to deal with (De Vita and Kyaw, 2017).
Analysis of the implications of significant threats, issues and challenges to global
tourism [M4]
The major threats and challenges also include the presence of local Anti Social elements that
cause harm to the people. The organizing of Olympics at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was a prominent
example of how the local Anti Social elements like thieves and Thug cause trouble to the
international visitors. Apart from that, major issues also include lack of connectivity at local
levels and expensive prices which can be overcome by implementing technological advanced
solution that will reduce the cost by a significant margin. The international community needs to
make some strict regulations for or governments of different countries that are members of
UNWTO of so that the safety and security of the tourists can be ensured. The local authorities

like police and other counter criminal activity departments also need to work in collaboration so
that the influence of anti social elements can be reduced (Seraphin et al. 2018).
Recommendations for the government and other international organisations for
managing future tourism development in response to threats, issues and challenges
[D2]
Following are some of the recommendations that the government of United Kingdom can follow
in order to boost the tourism sector.
Investing in building new it and unique infrastructures so that people can be attracted
towards the iconic symbols
The Waterside holiday group Limited can include many other attractive packages that
will consist of a longer stay and better visit to different cities and attractive destinations
located nearby
The government needs to work with intelligence agencies and security forces to curb
terrorism activities that can jeopardize tourism industry
Active promotions are also important along with organizing some unique festival or event
to attract cultural visitors
Conclusion
It can be said that the travel and tourism industry is likely to see more growth and development
in the upcoming few years at the global level. Hence, it is very important to maintain the pace
and also twin sure that it a sense of safety is provided to the tourists. The authorities at every
level need to ensure that best services are provided to the tourists at affordable rates so that they
gain a memorable experience and are likely to come again along with many other tourists. The
tourism sector provides jobs to many people and therefore it is highly essential that this sector is
protected by the government as well as the people at local level.
