all across the globe(Chandel, Kanga and Singh, 2021). Different types of rules and regulation
has been developed as well as imposed by the government of all the nation which result in
disruption of flow of goods and services. The impact of this pandemic has been majorly seen on
the tourism industry of UK which contribute in the growth of its economy. Tourist from all
across the globe visit the nation because of its various culture, traditions and infrastructure. The
following essay is going to cover the impact of COVID 19 pandemic on the economy of UK
with relevant examples. The purpose behind conducting this essay is to analyse all the
consequences which are impose on the tourism sector because of this pandemic. This essay also
evaluate that how the industry has responded on this and is recovering form the impact of this
pandemic.

death. The government of UK have to impose lock down with in the nation which comprises of
shut down of all the market except necessary items stores and different activities of the service
sector(Dinarto, Wanto and Sebastian, 2020). The impact of this pandemic has been seen
majorly on the tourism sector of UK because of the social distancing measures made by the
government. After the arisen of COVID 19 lock down has been imposed due to which the
activities of travelling form one place to another has been stopped. Individuals are not allowed to
came out form their homes for entertainment and fun purpose, which result in terminations of
different activities of tourism industry. The COVID 19 pandemic is one of the most fatal and
infectious disease which result in disruption as well as loss of life of people. This also result in
the winding up of the different business enterprise and services sector because of the

discontinuation in the different operations. The outbreak of this pandemic not only impact the
airlines industry but also impact on the hotels and hospitality industry which combinationally
impact on the overall tourism sector to a great extent. The crises of this pandemic force the
government to completely stop the leisure and fun activities which result in that the tourism
sector of UK have to face lots of challenges and permanent closure of the firm. During this
situation the tendency of individual staying in their home has been increases which result in that
resident of the nation made 96 % less visit outside the home(Gil-Alana and Poza, 2020). Only
the groceries and supermarket stores have the permission to open their stores in order to sustain
human life. The tourism sector is majorly includes the all the fun activities which an individual d
in their leisure time through travelling in the different places. This pandemic has created a very
bad situation with in the nation from the last two years and this result in the decline of revenues
as well as the profit of the tourism sector on a major level.
Tourism sector of United Kingdom contribute in the growth and development of
economy of the UK to a great level. The respective country is well known for its infrastructure
and beauty which attract lots of tourist. According to the research it has been observed that the
tourist of England almost contribute around £106 billion to the economy of nation and along
with this, this also develop around 206 million opportunities for the people of UK. The tourism
sector of the United kingdom not only contribute in developing the employment opportunities
but also contribute in growth and development of the British economy. The top sectors which
comprises in the tourism sector are transportation, accommodation, food and beverage,
recreation and entertainment and travel which assist in developing immense numbered of jobs
for the individual(Jaipuria, Parida, and Ray, 2021). The needs and demand of tourist has been
fulfil by the tourism by providing them excellent quality of services. This also being considered
as one of the major sector which develop different types of carer option for the prospective
students. The hospitality industry also contribute in the growth of the economy as these sector
generate high level of revenue because of engaging lots of people in their services. The
hospitality sector is being considered as one of the most emerging sector and this is on boom in
UK because of the high involvement of individual in the leisure activities. In addition to this, this
also assist the business organisation by providing accommodation services to their employees
form one place to another for the business person(Menegaki, 2020). This help in the growth and

been seen that the economy of the UK is majorly depend on the tourism sector as the lifestyle of
the individuals revolves around the leisure activities. The respective country is significant in
attracting huge number of visitors form all over the globe as the UK is well and highly developed
country. Tourist from all over the nation came to explore the beauty of nation. The continent is
well known as well popular for its attractive sites which assist in the contributing in the
developing the economy of the nation.
The impact of COVID 19 majorly seen on the tourism sector of all across the globe. The
passengers of UK reduces travelling fro one place to another form this a decline of 98.3 % has
been in travelling. This is done because of the restriction in the aviation and travel industry of
UK. The services which comprises in the tourism sector affect in a very negative manner as the
people were not allowed to to travel for one city to another. Along with this a major decline of
around 9.3 in the accommodation and travel agency in the month of February to may 2020. In
addition to this with in the duration between the April to June a decline of 21.5 % has been seen
in the employment which are based on the accommodation sector in comparison to 2019.the
tourism sector of UK has shown a huge decline in the loss of job by the people between the age
group of 16 to 24. The restriction in the tourism activities has create a very bad situation which
result in the crises for the owner of the business(Kuqi, and et. al., 2021). They have to face lots
of challenges like they have to pay salaries to their employees which result in increasing their
expenses. A survey has been conducted by the Visit-England in order to determined the
occupancy in the hospitality sector and it has been analyse that a huge decline has been seen in
the hospitality industry(Madani and et.al., 2020). In 2019 the occupancy of rooms in West
Midlands was recorded around 71 % but due to this pandemic it was recorded around 17 % only.
The government of UK is planning different types of strategies in order to overcome form the
problems which are generated during this situation.

It can be summarized from this essay that Covid 19 impacted UK's tourism industry
economically. Most negative effects of it were seen on the hospitality business and travel sector.
The lock-down used during the pandemic led to the shutdown of several small businesses that
earned bread and butter from tourism. Many people in Britain lost their jobs due to decline in the
employment opportunities that were the consequence of the pandemic. Now it is required on the
part of the government to work for the quick recovery of the tourism sector so that it can emerge
as a prominent sector again.
