What is culture for you?
Culture is an attribute and knowledge of a definite group of personnel, encompassing
religion, language, music, social habits and art. The term culture consist of food, religion,
clothing, language and rituals (Watson, Rubie - Davies and Hattie, 2019). The business culture is
divided among many parts. They are national and regional culture, organisational culture,
professional culture, ethnic culture and gendered culture. I belong to organisational culture in
which the action and thoughts are linked with those people who are colleagues, classmates or
team mates.
What relevance does culture have for business?
A good culture is attractive opportunity for the success of businesses. The culture is not
only about being cool but it plays a great relevance in context of business growth. Culture of
businesses is an essential attribute which attracts and retail the talent within it. Companies with
strongest culture tend to bear much lower rate of turnover than those of weak culture. Along with
this, the relevance of business culture enables innovation. Like offering perks to employees is a
general culture followed by almost every company. Also, extra paid time off along with free
food attracts employees towards company. Thus, the efficiency of company enhances with
building good corporate culture as it helps the company in achievement of efficient
organisational goal and success.
How have the conversations we have had in class with various lecturers and
students helped you to make sense of culture?
I have developed my understanding on culture that this is a wider term in which it is
related to success and growth of a business. Also, I have learnt about different elements of
culture that the culture of a business entity must have strong and clear mission. I have learnt
about relevance of organisational culture in context of employees work satisfaction and growth
of businesses. The culture is also highly depend upon laws in New Zealand. The New Zealand is
following a western culture which is influenced by identical environment and a fond of
geographical isolation.
My understanding on culture is developed by lectures conduced in class that New
Zealand is following multiculturalism. There are many culture involved in the academic and

business environment of the country New Zealand. Also, I enhance my knowledge regarding
other similar comparatives which are followed under the whole country. The tutor has also
developed my understanding in context of culture of Australia which is different from that of
New Zealand. Also, I comprehend and learning regarding culture of different south East Asian
countries and pacific culture. Another level of understanding enhances by studying about global
and digital culture as this culture is related with technological advancement in countries. Thus, I
am able to gain knowledge in context of different technologies which influences culture of an
economy. In addition to this, I have learnt a lot about Chinese culture, Latin America culture,
etc. which is far different from the culture prevailing under New Zealand. Now, I know that
culture of every nation or region is different from each other.
