Crosslinguistic influence is created on an individual when they come in close context to
two different kinds of languages. In other words, this usually happens when a child is coming in
contact with two different languages either in his family or in his school and localities. However,
it is also evident from this post that it takes place mainly in three different stages. The first stage
will be prominent only in the case of the adults. Stage two will be seen in the case of a bilingual
child as they will reach the somewhat matured stage and will no longer have the tendency of
mixing up the two different languages. However, stage three is the final stage that takes place
when the child has grown up and also he or she is an adult (Westergaard et al., 2017). Therefore
there is hardly any tendency of mixing up the languages and an adult-like capability of
separating the two languages is developed. This post has also been useful in teaching about the
other factors that come into play in this aspect like that of the setting of the transformation of
language. The dominant language in the case of bilingual speakers usually has a significant
impact on how they learn the new language. In other words, the English bilingual speakers will
have good proficiency in learning the other new languages.
Cognition is also essential to learn about the languages and also to retain the same. This
post has been useful as it enabled the readers to understand that cognition is not only associated
with thinking but also other activities (Hulk, 2017). The power of creating memories, storing
them and also recollecting memories is a typical human trait that is built-in within human beings.
Cognition also plays a major role in the same and also makes human being develop their sense of
thinking and reasoning.
