The author defines equality as equal treatment regardless of needs and equity as fairness through differentiated treatment based on needs. The post highlights the importance of equality of opportunity, particularly in relation to gender, discussing how women are often treated differently in the workplace. The author argues that true equality requires evaluating individuals based on skills and experience, not gender or other factors. The post emphasizes the potential negative consequences of inequality, including the perpetuation of patriarchal norms and harm to the societal harmony. References to Dworkin (2018) and Hearn (2016) are included to support the arguments. This assignment is a student contribution for Desklib, a platform for study resources.

EQUALITY AND EQUITY
These concepts are examined and interpreted for better understanding in an individual's
life. In this regard, equality is defined as the state of balanced treatment irrespective of
requirements or needs of everyone in all situations by providing same facilities. Along with,
equity is refereed as the system for establishing fairness with justice and hereby by treating
people differently as per situation or needs. Although these two terms are considered similar.
However, they are poles apart. Equality is a state where people are treated at same level and
cannot be judged on their qualification, age etc. whereas equity represents distribution of
opportunities or burdens through unbiased approach.
Equality of opportunity has been always the point of discussion in context of societal
norms to lay an egalitarian society. It is evident that women have been treated indifferently in all
arenas of social life in both terms of equality of resources and opportunity as well (Dworkin,
2018). Subsequently, women are treated at workplace based on their appearance, emotional
quotient, etc. and need to follow the social sanctions while professionally pursing a career, while
from men, such expectations are not the same. Therefore, it has become vital to bring equality by
treating men and women at equal par by giving same chances to grow and add value to
organisation. Personally, I feel when each person devoid of its sex, religion or nationality is
being evaluated on the basis of distribution of parameters like experience, skills then it will
provide an equality of resources to show their abilities to achieve goals. On the other hand, if
such inequality prevails, then it will plague the growth of entire society and work ethics
adversely by accelerating the patriarchal gender norms and it will hamper the harmony of human
ecosystem (Hearn,2016).
