DISCRIMINATION AT WORKPLACE
Discrimination in the name of race, gender and culture is one of the age-old issues the
world has been facing since the inception of a civilised society. Not only the developing
countries, but also some of the developed countries like United States are still unable to
abolish such issues of disparity. It is very unfortunate that, even in the 21st century, United
States is lagged behind other western countries in terms of participation of women and black
Americans in the workforce. I work in a multinational company in United States and the
incidences of bullying people on the basis of their skin colour and race are common in my
office. This instigated me to use my pen to convey my protest to the higher authority.
I always hated being a depending woman. This attitude helped me to reach a
prestigious position in a multinational company. I was very happy when I came to know
about my promotion. My colleagues insisted me to arrange a big celebration. It was revealed
through a chat during party, that the male colleagues holding the same position were paid
more. I was shocked because the difference was huge and they were not even more
experience than me. This was a demotivating news for me. I realised that I was the victim of
the gender bias attitude of the organisation. I did not have the confidence to protest that time.
I used to be exhausted with workload and did not even have any time to focus on the
discriminatory attitude of my male colleagues towards me, but the incident that happened
with Tanya , one of my best friends in office, exceeded the level of my tolerance. I realised
the emergency to raise my voice against it. Being a dark American,Tanya was often bullied
by her colleagues. She was a young innocent girl and afraid of the consequences she might
face if she raised any objection. I was there to support her. Once an incident of theft was
noticed by three of my female colleagues. The accused person was a white American. He was
my subordinate for which I was well aware about his habits. I also ordered for a detailed
investigation, but the higher authority did not show much interest. The accused person got the

According to my opinion, every organisation should recruit a certain percentage of the female
candidates whom the company will treat equally by providing the same scale of remuneration
as compared to male workers.. They should also maintain amend the ethical policies as
discrimination may lead to collision within the company, which may curb the employee
productivity as well as the reputation of the company. They should develop a manual where
any kind of bullying or discrimination should be considered as violation of company rules
and the company will have the authority to take very strict action like dismissing the
employee. They should set up an investigation bureau consisting of male female immigrant
and dark Americans. This team should look after the issues of discrimination. In case of
issues like corruption and theft they should conduct an unbiased investigation. Again, in case
of rewarding employees for their good performance they should not maintain any kind of
distinction. If any of the employees are demotivated or oppressed or bullied in the name of
race, inequality and ethnicity, they should be able to charge the person as well as the
company and demand a good amount of compensation or legal action.
In the conclusion, I want to mention, if such disparity exists, not only the economy
will lack skilled workforce, which will in turn curb the total productivity as well as the Gross
Domestic product of the country. If the people of America indulge in conflicts within the
