AI Summary
This report provides a comprehensive analysis of schizophrenia, a severe mental health disorder. It delves into the causes of schizophrenia, including genetic inheritance, chemical imbalances in the brain (such as dopamine imbalances), family relationships, and environmental factors, highlighting the complex interplay of these elements. The report also examines the effects of schizophrenia, differentiating between positive and negative symptoms, and discusses the various treatments available, such as medication (antipsychotics), supportive therapies (psychotherapy, psychosocial therapy, cognitive behavior therapy), behavioral techniques (social skills), and the crucial role of family support. The report concludes by emphasizing the importance of a multifaceted approach in managing schizophrenia and improving the quality of life for those affected. The report also highlights the importance of early intervention and comprehensive support systems for individuals with schizophrenia and their families. SCHIZOPHRENIA 2
I. Introduction
The term schizophrenia is defined as the mental health disease which causes a
consumer to hear, see and comprehend the world in a strange way. It is one of the
serious health disorders which also affect functions of the human body system along
with their behaviour (Dold, & Leucht, 2014). It is observed that consumers with
schizophrenia may have lost touch with reality and also affect how an individual thinks,
feels and behaves. The purpose of this report is to discuss the problem of schizophrenia
mental disorder along with their causes and treatments. This report mainly focuses on
the schizophrenia and identifies the risk factors linked with the schizophrenia disorder.
II. Thesis statement
Schizophrenia is a disturbing disorder with catastrophic causes, tragic effects
and has very little treatment that schizophrenics need to overcome in order to have
some kind of mental control over their lives.
III. Schizophrenia mental disorder
I. Causes of schizophrenia
It is analysed that schizophrenia mainly strikes between the age of 15 and 29 and
males tends to indicates symptoms at a slightly younger age as compared to the females.
Schizophrenia is one of the complicated disorders that are very difficult to understand
and identify the risk factors (Foster, Choi, Conn, & Rook, 2014). However, a recent study
identified that schizophrenia has numbers of negative impacts on the mind and it can
make consumers behave in a violent way. Evidence argued that genetic and
environmental elements act together to bring about schizophrenia which is growing
rapidly and numbers of consumers are suffering from such kind of problems. There are
the following causes of schizophrenia mental disorder:
Genetic inheritance
It is observed that schizophrenia disorder may increase from genetic factors and
any family member has such problem than their children can be suffered from the same
disorder (Grace, 2012). Therefore, the risk of schizophrenia rises to 10% if a parent was
diagnosed with schizophrenia mental disorder.

A chemical imbalance in the brain
The researchers identified that an imbalance of dopamine is included in the
problem of schizophrenia. There are other neurotransmitters are also included in the
field of schizophrenia disorder for example serotonin and many more.
Family relationships
Some patients evaluated that family members play a major role in the
development of schizophrenia disorder where they increase the issue of tension,
depression or stress which directly impact on their brain (Kahn, & Sommer, 2015).
Environmental factors
It is one of the common causes of schizophrenia disorder which can change the
nature of the patients and trigger relationship issues, unemployment or divorce.
Moreover, it is identified that stressful experiences often precede the emergence of
schizophrenia mental disorder. Schizophrenia can impact on the brain and causes
schizophrenics to act in a specific way and also make it difficult to communicate with
their family members (Khandaker, et al., 2015).
II. Effect of schizophrenia
It is observed that in the field of schizophrenia there are two kinds of symptoms
involved such as positive and negative. The positive symptoms are those which indicate
distorted perceptions. Moreover, negative symptoms are those which indicate a loss of
normal function and similar to what consumer might see in a depressed client, without
the sadness. A recent study conducted by world health organization identified that
schizophrenia mental disorder affects all aspects of emotion, cognition, perception and
nature in ways that affect the consumers with their family and society (Leucht, et al.,
2013). However, such kind of disorder can cause extreme physical and emotional issues
which affect every area of the patient’s personal life. There are several complications
and effects of schizophrenia which are described below:
Depression
Homelessness
Poverty
Inability to work
Anxiety

Social isolation
Abuse of substances
Self-injury
Death
According to National Health Service schizophrenia, the mental disorder may impact
on the personal relationship and produce the issue of conflict between patients and
family members (Moghaddam, & Javitt, 2012). Such kind of health issue can increase the
financial difficulties and it can increase the problem of self-harming behaviours.
III. Treatments of schizophrenia
There are following treatments can be adopted for the patients who are suffering
from schizophrenia mental disorder:
a. Medication
It is one of the common treatment processes used by doctors and nurses while
monitoring the health of the patients. It is identified that antipsychotics are very
common kind of medication which is suggested by doctors and specialists of
schizophrenia disorder (Mueser, Deavers, Penn, & Cassisi, 2013). Therefore, with the
help of medication consumers can control and manage the problem of schizophrenia in
an effective manner.
b. Supportive therapy
Therapy plays a significant role in the reduction of schizophrenia disorder where
it identifies the risk factors linked with the schizophrenia and provides better treatment
options to the patients. There are several supportive therapies which can be used for
reducing the rate of schizophrenia disorders such as psychotherapy, psychosocial
therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and cognitive enhancement therapy (Mueser,
Deavers, Penn, & Cassisi, 2013).
c. Behavioural techniques
World health organization suggested that consumers and nurses can adopt
behavioural techniques such as social skills in order to control and manage
schizophrenia disorder. In the case of schizophrenia, it is very important to change the
behaviour of the patient in a positive manner because a person who is suffering from

schizophrenia can impact on their family members. So, social skill technique can be used
for controlling and managing the behaviour of the patients and nurses can involve social
activities for reducing stress and tensions from the patients.
d. Support from family
The family also play a main role in the reduction of schizophrenia because they
provide complete protection and safety to the member who is suffering from
schizophrenia. So, family members should support the patients and provide a proper
dietary plan and focus on their behaviour or daily life activities which can help the
patients for reducing the issue of schizophrenia.
IV. Conclusion
From the above discussion, it is concluded that schizophrenia is one of the
serious disorder which can impact on the behaviour of patients. Genetic and
environmental factors are very common causes of schizophrenia disorder.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that many suffer from and the victim doesn’t have
much control over it. This report explained the causes and impacts of schizophrenia
mental disorder and also suggested some treatment options for monitoring the problem
of schizophrenia. Therefore, it is suggested that medication, therapies and behavioural
techniques can be used for the patients who are suffering from schizophrenia mental
disorder.
