INTRODUCTION
Health and social care services are termed as the integration between services that are
available and are provided by medical representatives in the economy. By every human, first and
foremost priority must be given to health and social care (Poteat, German and Kerrigan, 2013).
Nowadays as people are facing problems due to environmental change and their way of living
and health is relatively going down. Organisation has taken steps for the purpose of developing
understanding about health and social life. Wellcome trust hospitals provides healthcare services
to UK's people. It is headquartered in UK and was established in the year 1936. This report will
help in understanding concepts and perceptions of health, disabilities, illness and behaviour on
the changing needs of people. It will also show the impact on health of individuals of emerging
developments, approaches and interventions in the environment. At last, strategies which will
help in overcoming challenges which are associated with the needs of people would be
discussed.

health and social care services.
Health and social care are one of the most important term for the life of people. But in
recent time, life of the people and this concept has changed a lot. In earlier days people use to
visit hospitals as and when needed. But in today's time it has become regular habit of people to
do routine check ups. Health can be described as the state of complete physical, mental and
social well-beingness of a person. A person cannot be said healthy only when he is not ill.
Illness is not the only reason due to which a person's health affects. According to WHO
it is said that health can be regarded as something which details up the state of complete physical
and mental well being of a person (Aveyard, 2014). Being healthy can be termed as staying away
from any kind of infections and also maintaining proper hygiene so that future illness could be
avoided.
Disability is defined as mental or physical condition of a person that makes him not to act
normally. This restricts them to take full participation in social events organised in his
surroundings. So it is not termed as a health issue rather it is defined as the interaction that is
built between individuals and society. Apart from this Illness can be considered as thing that

restricts a person to perform regular routine works. It can lead to permanent or temporary
situation. In British sense illness can be defined as something that stays with the person for a
period of time. This has major impact on both mind and body of an individual.
Behaviour of a person can be defined as the situation where a person shows a kind of
conduct and reacts as per the circumstances that are present in front of him. Here person takes
necessary steps so as to eliminate sickness or disease from which his body is suffering. So it is
important for the family of Mr Holland park to get themselves aware about the importance of

individuals in a country. These are very effective while deciding about governance in a country.
There are different factors that affects healthcare and environment in which people live.
Legislations are different social norms that bring great impact on treatment of patient (Bowling,
2014).
Various policies, acts and regularities have been set up regularly for all individuals in
society. Some of the Legislative Policies are:

4. Small increase in the use of Anti-Depressants
It helps in providing better service that should be provided to individuals. If legislation

So it is very essential for people to decide about needs of patients as it can lead to
generation of positivity in their behaviour. As in the case of Mr Holland Park who is suffering
from initial stage of dementia, needs to be taken care with special care that will bring an
influence of positivity in his behaviour. As he is in old age group where brain cells and cranial
cells starts to die and due to this people starts to forget things. The staff of wellcome trust should
help Mr Holland Park in assisting him while taking medicines and while taking bath. Also he is
suffering from visually imparedness that is considered to be a chronic disease and it should be
taken care during nights, requirements that are basic like water should be made available to him
so that he does not have to find it on its own. This would help in reducing chances of injury that
occurs due to vision problem (Connell, 2012). Apart from this sometimes Mr Holland Park is
showing challenging behaviour because of which trust has to predict and determine services that

healthcare centres as it would help them in case of emergency. The locality has availability of
new and mechanised devices to be operated. There is a user friendly environment which helps
people with specific needs to be given a healthy, hygienic medical services. Wellcome trust
should take care that they are having proper agreements with other centres that helps them in
giving quick services to patients who requires shifting. Locality has the best transportation
service which helps them to shift patients from one place to another place and handling them.

of dementia and can be cured on time if taken care of. There are various approaches that may
vary from light approach to a strict approach depending upon patient. As problem of vision and
hearing imparedness is moderate in Mr Holland Park it can be procured by proper attention.
Wellcome trust should take proper attention so that they can overcome challenging behaviour of
Mr Holland Park. Wellcome trust used cognitive therapy that helps in stimulating senses to
activate body neurons. By means of music and sound Trust motivates to activate sensors and

treatment they gave to him started to improve his condition and was challenging for concern.

levels.

supporting healthcare. Also Social Policies plays an important role and are responsible for
ensuring good services available for the people with specific needs. It is defined as social
norms,values and other things that are very much important for societal piece and harmony.
Certain policies such as health and social care act that has been devised so that every person
living in a society gets the right to have a social care and medication.

4.1 Explain different concepts of challenging behaviour you will face while working in care
homes
Doctors and relatives of a patient have to face various challenges at the time of providing service
to them due to their mental and physiological conditions. In present scenario, proper education is
providing to society in terms of essential services which are required to patients due to which
mind set of individual are changed towards them (Lewis, 2015). Individuals are more believing
in care homes that they are providing best care and facilities to patients. Basically challenging
behaviour happens in old age people and child who have disabilities from their birth due to
which, they feels separated and alone in the society where they live.
Challenging behaviour is categorised in such parts they are violent acts, aggressive
behaviour, doing mental things in public, abusing others, throwing stones towards other peoples
and many more. These behaviour are showing by them because of various reasons such as, ill
health, learning and physical disabilities, illegal medicines and alcohol, brain injury etc. old age
individuals are suffering from pain in their joints and insanity due to this they have to depend
upon their family members and relatives for performing their daily functions. Sometime, people
are started challenging behaviour due to depression which become mental illness with time.
In context of Mr. Holland park, they were also showing aggressive and violent behaviour
with their family members due to which, their family members admitted them in care home but
after some time their behaviour becomes normal because of effective treatment and caring from
staff members of Wellcome Trust Hospital. Challenging behaviour is recovered by proper
analysis and effective treatments along with attentive nature of the family members. Through
communication and caring nature of employees with patients at wellcome trust hospital this
behaviour can be reduced.
4.2 describe the potential impact of challenging behaviour on health and social care organisations
Dealing with patients who are suffering from challenging behaviour, it is a tough and
essential task for employees of wellcome trust hospital. Because they can harm other patients
and staff members who are providing services to them. This kind of behaviour can be dangerous
some time for other patients. Their violent and aggressive nature may threat employees who are
providing treatment to such individuals. Their violent acts will also increases accidents in

workplace of Wellcome trust which may reduce brand image of the organisation. Therefore, it is
very essential for Wellcome trust to giving proper treatment to those patients because their little
issues will gave a huge effect on the brand image of the hospital. In context of Mr. Holland park,

reducing their challenging nature (Marmot and et. al., 2012). The Impact of challenging

This is very crucial for health and social care centres to provide extreme care to people
who are suffering from challenging behaviour. So it is necessary for Wellcome trust to check the
causes and behaviour of patient before they start any treatment. For smooth treatment patients
must cooperate with the organisation. Management must set targets which are able to handle
these patients effectively.
The patients must be dealt with special care and with a good nature or one can say that
the caretaker shows politeness, love and affection in treating the patient. The caretakers are
expected to follow the targets already set up while providing the services. The trust
communicates through the following ways to the patients, These are:

The medication of the patients was done keeping in mind their relative need of treatment
regarding the illness. The use of anti-psychotic drugs was reduced to the extent and a small
increase was made to the anti-depressants keeping in mind the illness of the patient. The
medication of the patients was done from time to time. Also, rewards were given to the patients
during the recreational activities organised by the Trust in order to motivate the patients and
increasing their desire to live.

From the above report, conclusion that thoughts of human about health care and social
care has changed significantly. Nowadays individuals are more eager to check their health and
want to live a better life (Moldan, Janoušková and Hák, 2012). Government has also used certain
legislation that helps them to positively impact on individuals having specific needs. It is
discussed in the report about current and specific needs of Mr Holland park who is suffering
from chronic disease of Dementia. At last, the idea of challenging behaviour of individuals has
been interpreted along with the plan to get over them for treating patients in a improved and
easy way.
