INTRODUCTION
Currently ,health and social care sector is growing continuously so health profession
should be equipped according to the requirement of patient and people. If professional does it
then it will be able to increase the no. of customers and revenue. Today time people 's thinking is
changing and they are becoming more conscious about their health. For fulfilling this needs of
health , technology is very helpful so professional should adopt technology according to the
need because it is a key driver in modern care (World Health Organization, 2012). This project is
based on health and social care sector that are growing continuously and very popular because
today's time people 'thinking is changing and want to remain fit and healthy. This project
explains the concept of illness ,disability and behaviour and focus on the social or culture need of
service user. It gives insight about the impact of legislation or social policies or culture on
service user.
TASK 1
1.1 Concept of health ,disability, and illness and behaviour
Every person should be healthy and fit for living the normal life or work life. If person is
not fit then he can not do work in efficient and effective manner so health is very important.
Health means that when a person has no diseases and is happy socially ,mentally and physically
then it is assume that he is a healthy person.
Disabilities- In this, individual can't live his or her normal life. It can be of two types-
one is permanent disabilities and second is temporary disabilities. In permanent disabilities
individual can not live his normal life in his whole life while in temporary disabilities ,person
can not live his normal life for a some time period. In this individual has some physical
impairment that 's why he can not live his normal life.
Illness – If anyone has illness then they become more dependent on others. Illness occurs
only for some time of period in which people can not work properly and feels weakness. In other
terms it can be say that it is the temporary defect or condition in which individual does not happy
mentally ,physically or socially (Mattocks and et.al., 2014).
Behaviours – Every person have different different behaviour. This indicates the
changing behaviour of the people which lead to physically or mentally sickness or depression.
Document Page
A professional of health care should have knowledge about all these problems so that he
can deal with these problems. Mr. Peter who have mental illness that will be included in the
illness because it is a temporary defect or condition of him and cerebral palsy will be included
temporary disabilities.
1.2 Changing perception related to specific needs
It is correct that today everyone 's perception is changing because now everyone want to
remain fit and healthy. For getting this they are going to health profession (Falk, 2016) . In
ancient time,no one have knowledge that how to remain fit and healthy and also no conscious
about their health but now a days everyone is conscious about their health because today time
everyone have m,ore work load or pressure so they want to take rest.
Disable people thinks that because of the society environment ,they are facing problems.
In earliest time ,there are hospitals who take care of the patient related to health but in this
hospital there are increasing no. of patient so doctors were no able to provide the best services or
not satisfying the customers. Then for removing this deficiency ,currently there are professional
who shifted towards the specialist communities who are providing the best quality services to
the patient according to their requirements or prevailing conditions. They are working with the
people with specific needs due to learning disabilities. They provides the suggestion or guidance
to the people so that they can improve their condition and will become healthy and fit (Holland-
Bartels, and Pierce, 2011). There is given a maslow hierarchy that are very helpful in identifying
the needs and wants of the patient-

With the help of this hierarchy ,A professional can easily know what actual patient wants
from him.
1.3 Impact of legislation ,social policy ,society or culture
Government makes many rules and regulation for protecting the rights of patient and for
providing the best services at reasonable cost to the patient. These legislation or rules have to
follow by every health professional or organisation which deals in health and social care sector
(Costley, 2013). If company follows these legislation then it helps in increasing the brand value
of the clinic as well as increase goodwill of the professional. There are many legislation that
professional have to follow which are as follows -
 Disability Discrimination Act – This legislation prevents the discrimination on the basis
of disability that is done by any professional. If any professional is doing discrimination
on the basis of it then it will be illegal.
 Equity Act 2006 – According to this act ,all patient should receive equal rights as other
patient are receiving.
 Special educational needs and disabilities act 2001 – According to this act , all
children should gain equal knowledge. There should be no discrimination on the basis of
disability in the school or colleges (Bernhaupt and et.al., 2012).
Document Page
Culture also effects the services that are providing to the person with specific needs
because according to the culture, person demands the services. Every culture has one form of
health beliefs.
Society also impact the person because it motivates or demotivate the show of equal
respect and value for people with specific needs.
These rules and regulation are made for the development of health and social care sectors
and in UK there are made a community that take care of disabled person (Wilcox and et.al.,
2012).

providing the services. His wife have also have depression by playing the role of wife as well as
mother continuously. She requires some medical and emotional care so that she can feel happy
and can remove the depression from her body.
People who have learning disability requires less health care needs because they can not
understand about their sickness or can't express about their problems. In this Mr. Anis is
paralysed that means he have disability then in this situation medical treatment should be
provided to him as well as can use charts or pictures for better communication. When patient 's
family members have knowledge about their comforts and discomforts then they can easily treat
with them and they will deal with them according to their moods (Haynes and Linden, 2012).
