Define laws and identify the respective legal systems in the UK
Laws means those parts of legal system which is used in order to deal with various
aspects which is present within society. The law has been using various legislation which makes
legal structure within an country improved effectively. These covers various legislation which
are present in the form of acts that has been formed in dealing with various legal problems that
disturbs individual's living. Under United Kingdom major law that exists within society are civil
and criminal law. The law helps in dealing upon legal functions within society (Craig, 2015).
Classification of laws in the English Legal system
a) Civil Law:
Civil law are the laws that are based upon individual's aspects which takes place within society.
The law has been dealing upon private issues and problems faced by an individual living within
society. Also civil law has been formed to develop understanding upon factors which causes
private crime to take place in society. It has thrown lime light upon behavioral patterns existing
within an individual existing within society. Through civil law major impact is paid upon wrong
that has been conducted by an individual living in society. This makes justice served in impact
manner. The major impact regarding civil law is covered within civil procedure code that helps
in serving justice related to civil cases. Under civil procure code different process is understood
in effective way (Ziembiński, 2021 ). Common laws are also used in civil laws to mark out
appropriate decision within an case in which statutory civil law fails over providing justice.
These laws helps in securing justice in relation to matters related to property, law of torts,
contract law and employment law. Also civil law has formed various kinds of important
principles which has helped in procuring justice in relation to private law. It is different from
criminal law. Second it means it is an civil code based legal system
b) Criminal Law:
Criminal law are those laws within which various aspects in relation to crime takes place
within society. It helps in identifying elements that increases crime within society. The laws
holds ability to impact public at large dealing upon criminals performing activities causing chaos
within a country. Further, law deals with crime through providing legislation or acts within
which punishments has been mentioned regarding crime taking place in society. Criminal law

offenses are called crime under the law. In this criminal procedure code has been followed that
defines about procedure in relation to proceedings and trial with investigation required to be
done while solving criminal cases. The laws covers about offenses like assault, murder,
kidnapping, rape, extortion and mob bleaching helping in serving justice in its real sense. These
laws handle psychotic people and criminals in appropriate or effective manner (Smyrnova,
2017).
In criminal law court used criminal procedure code which covered various process with
different trials and proceeding . The different legislation which has been formed by these laws
helps the court to punished criminals with the penalties in accordance to their offense. These
laws helps the society to develop public safety and security in relation to criminal cases

 Case laws are one of the most important source which has been used in order to form new
laws which is more effective in nature that helps in forming strong law. These source
helps in covering any kind of loopholes that exists within statutory law . Also this is an
important source which makes new laws formed in more effective manner and through
this justice is served in its real sense. Also they use common law principle which makes
which makes case understood in detail by making legal system strong in more effective
way. In this facts, issues and legislation is covered that helps in solving different issues
related to judiciary making impact created in a way to provide justice. This makes laws
applied in its real sense making principles of justice served (Zournatzi, 2018).
 Legislation: These are made by the law making authority which is Parliament. A bill
undergoes various stages in order to become the law and no court can challenge its
relevancy. It is strictly followed by the legal judicial system in UK.
Explanation of the process of making Legislation
Legislation is an important source which is used in order to form permanent law that are
statuary in nature. This makes statutory laws used regarding relation upon various issues
impacting society. In order to makes laws formed three reading process is used which makes
development of legal structure within a country. Through this justice is served by improving
judicial functions. The first step is first reading wherein only title is read. Then is second reading
wherein the general discussion is done on the bill. Then is report stage wherein amendments are

suggested to the members. Then is third reading wherein last chance is provided to provide
amendments. Then is consideration of amendments and lastly the royal assent which is taken
from Queen in order to make it law (Sealey, 2021).
