Introduction
On the summer of 1787 at Philadelphia, an educated intellectual class of people
gathered to form what later became one of the most progressive constitutions of the world, the
constitution of the United States of America. These fifty-five delegates decided upon essential
issues for the country where the issues concerning the country were debated, discussed and put
forward in the Constitution. These issues included fair and equal representation to the abolition
of the institution of slavery. The article discusses about the key tenets of the Constitution of
USA in the following portion.
Discussion
This constitution written in the 18th century is the marvel of clarity and brevity. There are
three main functions of the constitution namely the formation of a national government for the
country with three apparatus: legislative, the executive and the Judiciary. The second
important function of the constitution is to form the system of checks and balances between
these bodies since it is vital to maintain interdependence and dependence at the same time. The
last most important function of the constitution is to divide power between the federal and the
government of the state in terms of their responsibilities and duties. The Preamble of the
constitution declares to its people liberty and welfare of all with democratic tranquility and fair
justice to all. While the first article deals with the most critical apparatus of the government and
their power, the legislature, the second article discusses the Executive power and article three is
composed of the description of the Judiciary.

One of the crucial functions of this constitution is the idea of “federalism”. The federal
government exercises the power of the states. However, it is not to say that states do not have
enough power. Instead, powers of both the sectors are sharp and clear. It is to be noted that under
the supremacy clause of the constitution of USA, the federal branch exercises more power to the
over the state laws. In case of any conflict between the state and the federal laws, the former will
prevail over the later. The basic tenets of the constitution are derived from the ten amendments
of the constitution which is collectively known as the Bill of Rights. The constitution of the US
follows two methods of making amendments of the same since it changes the sign of a healthy
democracy. However, bringing any practical change to the constitution is a challenging task
since it is possible after the ratification of ¾ of the states. However, it is essential to reconsider
the important tenets of the Constitution to evaluate the significance of the same. The most
important part of the constitution is their Bill of Rights, and the idea behind this is the right of the
people in relation to their governments. Hence, this includes the most important part of the
Constitution, it is imperative to note that the freedom of Speech, right to profess any religion
and the freedom of the Press is contained in the Bill of Rights. This is also important because
it sets out the principle of due process of laws and confines the source of power not to the federal
government instead of the people of the country.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that the federal constitution of the
country is the embodiment of the unity and integrity at the same time it projects the idea of
individualism for the effective realization of the human potential. The constitution of the
United States is considered to be the supreme laws of the country which is empowered with the

sovereign author of the land: however, the source of the actual power is the people. The sole
purpose of the constitution is to protect the interest of its citizens, and it has successfully
contributed in this regard to become one of the most important constitutions of the world.
