2UNEMPLOYMENT OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN AUSTRALIA
Research Problem
Young and meritorious students wanted to extend their careers and go beyond the
national boundaries to gain success in international boundaries. The term International
Students” is associated with academic institutions in a global perspective. Australia has been the
ground for most of the foreign students to pursue their career in management. In present, it has
been found that these international students face problems in the professional ground. Most of
the young students found to enhance their management skills through academic programs
organized by Australian Universities. As a result of this, most of the students choose Australia as
their international destined academic institution.
According to the present situation, it has been found that most of the students choose a
different career irrespective of the degree they have. Looking at it in a detailed way then the
situation comes in a way that students are forced to choose a different career option. In Australia,
most of the Uber drivers if looked at then have an IT degree. Management students found to
engage in the supply chain as there is a dearth in job creation. Having a home to most of the
international students, Australia lacks in producing creative jobs (Gribble, Blackmore and
Rahimi, 2015).
Most of the jobs that have been created in Australia is found not to meet the educational
requirements of international students. Right now there is a dearth of management work and that
most of the students from foreign countries came to Australia for management study lacks in
developing their career in the same field. As opined by Forbes-Mewett and Sawyer (2016), the
problem is of the economist who does not control the type of industries to develop in the market
according to the specialization courses in the country. Although the degree of management in

Australia has an international value, students across the border are not getting any kind of
employment on which they did their specialization.
Australian jobs that are created with the passage of time are mainly part-time. These jobs
that are created allows a student to accept as they do not have any other option. As a result of
these, students from different fields have to choose different working ground. Most of the
students found to face problems and quit the job at the earliest. International students in this
perspective found to be unemployed after completing their specialized courses from renowned
Australian Universities. Companies that incept from Australia will always give preference to
Australian people than that of the people who are from outside the country. Another reason that
highlights the reason for unemployment is that of the aboriginal people. Reports collected from
the Universities with that of the Government states that about 16% of the International students
are unemployed (Macrobusiness.com.au, 2019). Most of the students there earn their living by
driving cabs which is entirely a diversion from the specialized course they are associated with.
Australian aboriginal people are not given preference for a long time. With the change in
Government, aboriginal people of Australia are given employment preferences more than that of
the international students. This results in a threatening competition with that of preferences.
Reports suggested that most of the international students are in trouble and that they also face
obstacles in their country. As opined by Gregory (2015), international students need to look for
such courses through which they can get jobs easily and that they do not have to face tough
competition.

Literature Review
Impact of culture on the professional ground
In defining the impact of culture on the professional ground Hofstede Model is of need.
A look at the chart of the Hofstede Model developed with regards to the Australian culture.
The Power Distance of Australia is 36 which clearly states that institutional members are
not powerful and that they rely on the fact that power is not distributed in an equal manner. This
results in developing a fact regarding the unemployment of international students. Australian
society is Individualist where people have mental thought of looking at their own families rather

than looking for the development of others. In the professional ground, Australian companies
look for only the students who are Australian rather than the students from other countries
(Smh.com.au, 2016). Australian society is parochial and that it becomes tough for women to get
a job in the easiest way. Australian people are aware of future developments and that they are not
high on uncertainty avoidance. Reasons if to be looked at regarding the unemployment of
international students then it is obvious that Australian rather their own do not want to have long
term orientation with other students. Australian people give indulgences to their children and
Australia scores high. Australian people give importance to their leisure time and that lavishly
spend much to fulfill their desire.
Communication Gap
Australia is the foremost preference for most of the students who want to specialize in
management courses. Internationally the universities are recommendable but not the working
perspective anymore. Communication in this perspective if to be looked then it is the gap
between education and getting the preferred job. Most of the MBA graduates of Australia from
foreign countries earn their living either through drive the Uber or working in small companies
as part-time employees. According to Gibson and Sodeman (2014), this is the worst situation
that has been faced by international students in Australia. Most of the foreign companies that
expand their business in Australia have their own management employees. They do not look for
other fresher graduates and that reason for unemployment of the international students who want
to settle in Australia after finishing their educational qualification. Returning to their own land
these management graduates face employment problems.

Issues of social isolation
According to reports, most Australian universities are using foreign students as cash
cows. Australian society believes in individualism students do not get the opportunity to have a
conversation with the other students. Also, it has been found that Australian people do not give
preference to other people who have taken admission in the universities to develop their
academic career. In this chart, it is found that most of the international students in Australia are
from India and that they are used as cash cows by the Universities.
Negligence from Australian students and the assessors of Universities make the students
believe that they are isolated from other people of society (Gomes et al. 2014). This impact
international students in such a way that they feel isolated from society. This is one-way creates
a feeling of depression which is really impossible for the students to overcome.
Problems of accommodation
Most of the international students do not have access to live in Australia of their own.
International students are given accommodation in the university hostel and that they are
deprived of enjoying city life. These students in one way are caged by the university clauses
which does not allow them to look or search for the job when they are the end of their semester.
According to Baas (2014), in the hostels of universities, most of the portals are blocked by the
authority and that the students do not have the access to look for the job that they are comfortable
with.
More than 10,000 students are living in overcrowded homes as most of the houses which
provide accommodation to the students are found not to have affordable rates. Monthly house

rent in Sydney and in other parts of Australia is found to be expensive and that the students
cannot afford it. This accommodation problem the Australian Government does not give a look.
Preference Problem
Australian people look mainly for the students who are from the country than those of the
international students. As the country believes in individualism it is obvious that preference will
be given more to the students of the country than that of the students from foreign countries.
According to Brown and Jones (2013), most of the students who want to pursue their careers and
develop their academics in Australia are moistly from the Asian region. The problem lies in the
fact that these students do not speak in English at lengths. Mainly the Chinese students with
those of the students from Japan, Korea are not accustomed to English. As a result of this most of
the job, preferences are given to the Australian students than those of the students who are from
other countries.
Literature Gap
The research that has been taken by the researcher, if given time researched in a more
prominent way. Analysis can be done in-depth if the researcher gets the time that has been of
requirement. The researcher fails to get the time for developing the research. The researcher only
gets to explain a very simple constraint that creates unemployment among international students
who want to study and settle in Australia. In developing the research, the researcher gets to know
of other constraints but failed to explain it in-depth as time is very limited.
Grant that has been provided to the student is very little and that the researcher finds it
tough to develop the entire research. The researcher has to look for various data and move to

places for collecting information regarding the reasons for unemployment. With such a little
grant it is not possible to get the actual reasons and develop the research accordingly.
Rationale for the importance
Problems for the unemployment need to be understood at the beginning. This will help in
developing a plan to solve the basics of the problem. This result will help in developing an
understanding of the problems that creates a problem regarding unemployment among
international students studying in Australia. The research will also provide an insight into the
strategies that the Australian Government along with the Economist need to take for the
betterment of international students. Resolving issues of the cash cow will also be given stress in
this research and steps will be provided to get rid of the present problematic status which the
country faces.
Previous research does not give an insight into the problems that international students
face in Australia. Those research stresses mostly into the condition of education and future
aspects. Problems have not been highlighted by yesteryear researchers and that these problems
remain to suppress. Unemployment needs to be given stress and make international students feel
that they choose the right career option. This study will help not only the international students to
know the problem of Australia but the way students are treated in the country. This research in
one way is the guidance not only to the international students but to the Australian Government
and the academicians.
The result of this research will help academicians along with the industrialist to develop
the market in such a way that meets the requirement of the students who came to Australia for
doing specialization. Gaps that are found to create these problems will be identified in this

research. Strategies will be defined according to the barriers that Australian Academic
Institutions will face while implementing the plan of developing employment. This will help
Australian to regain the position that it had in the field of Academics and employment.
This study will help people to understand the psychological problems that international
students pass through while enhancing their skills of management knowledge. The viewpoint
from which the study has been developed is very unique and that such points are not been looked
at by other researchers. Psychological trauma with that of the others is given stress in the
research which has not been taken into consideration previously. Racial discrimination with that
of the language problem will be reflected in the study to make the research comparatively
prominent than that of the research that had been carried out previously by the other researcher.
Priorities of international students will be given stress in the research. This will help the
academicians to look into the matters that international students complaint. A change from the
perspective of Australian society will be recommended so that students from different countries
do not feel isolated. Unemployment is the primary focus of the research and with that, the factors
that create an obstacle in overcoming the research will be given stress. This development from
the side of the research will help to develop a mutual understanding among the academician with
that of the students and sort out the problems.
This research will look into the positive ways of mitigating the problems of
unemployment among international students. The viewpoint of the research will be to look into
the problems that are faced by international students and made strategies accordingly. A look
will also be given on strategies that are undertaken and that the problems that international
students along with the Australian Government will face in implementing the strategies.
Recommendations for those problems will be looked at in the research. Societal development
