LO1 (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
TASK 1- ESSAY
INTRODUCTION
Self-managed learning is a series of actions that take place where individuals carry
out the assessment on him and aspire to become a better version. This self-
managed learning is based on the self-assessment without getting any assistance
from others and takes decisions according to the goals set. In this essay, the
approaches to self-managed learning will be undertaken that has become a part of
learning due to the learning experience at my workplace. In next part of the body, we
will devise some ways which will help in life-long learning in personal and
professional context and will evaluate the benefits of the few approaches from the
self-managed learning undertaken (Quintanilla and Wahl, 2015).
BODY
1.1 Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning
Through a variety of resources available an individual can enhance the knowledge
and skills through a self-directed learning process which will involve self-evaluation.
There are many approaches through which self-managed learning can be
undertaken which are as under:
Seminars
Through the shared experiences of the individuals at seminars and conferences, one
can learn a lot and can improve the knowledge to a better extent. Through this self-
managed learning approach, the managing skills and the confidence can be
managed and will help to gain better experience from the knowledge being shared.
This allows one individual to grow and prosper by learning through the experiences
of others and develop new skills and ideas (Pacleb and Bocarnea, 2016).
Observation

This is the most vital approach that can inject in an individual a self-managed
learning. This is a quality that renders learning from mere observations. Through the
observation direct learning can take place and through this, the power and
leadership qualities can be enhanced. This can also render better decision making
and communication skills development that will also help one to analyse the
situations better. This approach helps in becoming a self-directed learner that will
help the individuals to analyse the situations better and then take decisions by
becoming a good manager,
Reading
This approach will help to gain better knowledge and theoretical knowledge through
the means of articles and journals that will render learning through different ideas
and theories. Through this approach, I can gain better skills that will help me to boost
my reading and understanding skills and will help me guide towards becoming a
better planner and decision maker. This best suits a leadership style that helps a
professional in a long run (Nagarajan and Edwards, 2015).
Conferences
Through this approach of self-managed learning, the confidence and the
presentation skills can be boosted up. These skills that can be used in the
organisational settings and will help in the empowerment of the organisation as well
as individuals.
Internet
This is one of the best source and approach to gain self-managed learning that
renders the vast amount of data. It also allows easy access to academic journals and
the articles through Google scholar and helps to access information through a
collection of divergent topics. It enables personal development as well as
professional development as it renders information and studies by different authors
which will help in better management studies and the risk management projects.
Social networks
Learning can take anywhere and it can come from anyone. Social networking sites
like My Space, Twitter and Facebook are those social networks that bring a wide

community together and where the exchange and sharing of thoughts and ideas take
place. This helps in learning new things through the tagging, posting, commenting
and reviews that are common here on bulletin boards and forums (Harks, et al.
2014).
1.2 Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional
contexts could be encouraged
On being an assistant manager the decision-making abilities are necessary to be
evaluated so that the organisational goals can be achieved. For the same, I involve
myself in the following approaches that encourage the learning process in the
personal and professional context.
Planning
This is another vital way that can encourage the lifelong learning in the personal as
well as professional context as it will help to lay out the framework that defines the
right policies and the availability of resources that can help in better monitoring and
control of the limited resources. This will help to achieve the desired outcome and
inject better coordination between all the employees and workers of the workplace
(Hofseth, et al. 2017).
Self-evaluation
In order to achieve the organisational objectives, self-evaluation forms a vital part
which will encourage lifelong learning and will help to undertake corrective measures
on time. This process helps in identifying the decision-making skills and will help to
boost the confidence. This helps in discovering the areas of improvement and draw
out corrective measures that can be used in enhancing the performance and will
help to minimise the gap between the current and the desired standard of the quality
and management.
Internet
Through the vital content, available online and the videos that are available on the
internet will help me to gain better knowledge and theories that I can utilise in my
workplace to motivate and encourage team spirit in the team members. This will thus

encourage me to keep myself updated with the current knowledge and trend so as to
ensure lifelong learning.

achieve optimum out of the available resources rendering higher satisfaction
and efficiency to them.
ï‚· This helps in improving the time management skills which also injects in
employees through self-managed learning the innovative ideas that ensure
efficiencies.
BENEFITS FOR ORGANISATION
ï‚· The self-managed learning also render benefits to the organisation as it helps
in achievement of the desired goals and help to render better communication
and coordination within every staff member.
ï‚· This helps in render quality services that help to achieve the goals effectively.
ï‚· It also benefits an organisation as self-managed learning helps to better
understand the customers and provide the services qualitatively which helps
to achieve the customer satisfaction (Magee and Webb, 2015).
CONCLUSION

2.2 THE DEVELOPMENT NEEDS AND ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO MEET THE
SKILLS IDENTIFIED
There are development needs that are aligned with the presence of current
knowledge and criteria that remain unfulfilled for the personal and professional
growth. For these development needs some activities are required so that the needs
that are lacking can be accomplished.
Through the SWOT analysis conducted above the skills that are identified to be
improved are the communication skills and the presentation skills that lack the
command over the language. In order to cope with these lacking skills, the
development needs that are required to meet the needful skills include the use of
online video and audio that will help in overcoming the lack of presentation skills and
will help to grab a better command on the language and ideas. The better practices
with relation to the professional standards will help to build strong relations with the
employees and will help to boost the communication skills (Krupitzer, et al. 2015).
The development activities to fulfil the needs of skills development will include the
time management activities and planning projects. The scheduling and log
preparation will help in completing tasks on time and the seminars will be attended
so as to develop better presentation skills and boost the confidence.

3.3 CRITICAL REFLECTION
In the context of the original aims and objectives that were laid in the professional
development plan, a critical evaluation will be carried out so that I can make
improvements in my personal and professional skills. In order to enhance the skills, I
underwent certain training courses and the classes which have helped me to gain
professional knowledge and other skills. I also planned mentoring and meditation so
that I can boost my skills and make my employees and co-workers motivated and
satisfied. Through mentoring, I am now able to better render strong understandings
and motive the employees and through meditation, I am now able to face all the
challenges and difficult situations in my career with ease and efficiency. I generally
seek feedbacks from my co-workers so as to ensure proper organisational disclosure
which has helped me to analyse the talents and skills of the co-workers and also
helped me to discover the same for me. This has also helped to enhance my
leadership skills and has improved the effectiveness relatively more. Through the
feedback, I also came to know about my improvement in the communication skills
which helped to effectively present my ideas and thoughts to others (Davies, et al.
2017).
But with the work overload I am still facing difficulties and thus I some time fails to
effectively manage the time due to which the tasks gets delayed. I am also facing
problems in resolving the issues on time which affects my decision making. I am
using the time management books and videos that are helping me a lot to get out of
this issue, as a result of overall evaluation I have reached to great proficiency with
respect to qualities and skills needed.

TASK 4
4.1 SOLUTIONS TO WORK-BASED PROBLEMS
In the work-related contexts, there arise various work-based problems that are
necessary to be resolved with time. The various communication and time
management styles can be followed so as to create sound work culture and
overcome the problems with ease.
Some work based problems that are encountered at workplace includes the problem
of time management that leads to delay of the work. There also arises a lack of
support from the employees that leads to coordination issues. This also leads to
misunderstandings. There also arises difficulty in reaching effective decisions and
solve the problems that are work-based (Dolmans, et al. 2015).
These problems can be solved by employing a process to solve these work-based
problems which follow the following steps:
 Identifying the problems
 Gain insights into the interest of everyone
 List out the solutions available
 Evaluate the solutions (Hofseth, et al. 2017)
 Make choice between all alternatives
 Monitor and evaluate with respect to effectiveness
In order to solve the work based problems employees can be motivated and
encouraged so as to create the better understanding of them and listening to them
effectively so that the coordination issues can be mitigated. Another solution that can
be generated for the time management issues is the development of effective plans
and timelines that will render the time frames in which the tasks can be
accomplished so as to remove the time issues. Seeking for regular feedbacks and
plan activities such that more employee engagement can be ensured and the issue
of support and trust with the co-workers can be resolved.

4.3 EVALUATE AND USE EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
One of the crucial factors for the success of an organisation is the time management
that helps to achieve the desired results and help to keep pace with the
competitiveness. Some of the time management strategies are devised under:
Diary maintenance
By maintaining the diary it will help in allocating time scales to particular tasks and
help in effective management of the work. This will help in setting the order of the
work and recording the completion of the work.
Division of work
On dividing the work among the different people according to the specialisation it will
help in accomplishing the tasks efficiently and will help to manage the time
effectively. It will also help to enhance the results in long run (Busse, et al. 2017).
Prioritising the work
According to the importance and urgency of the tasks, the work should be prioritised
that will help to manage the task easily and important tasks thus could be
accomplished on time.
Avoiding mobiles and telephones
Avoiding the mobiles and telephones during the work hours may help in enhancing
the performance and will help to better reach the objectives on time.
Avoid social networking sites
During the work hours the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, My Space
and others should be avoided as it consumes a lot of time in chatting and gossiping
which may delay the other tasks (Hopkinson, 2014).
Thus through effective utilisation of these time management strategies, one can stay
multi-tasking and will better achieve the organisational objectives by eliminating the
time wastages.
24
Document Page
CONCLUSION
In a Nutshell, self-managed learning has come up as an important part played in the
personal and professional development as through proper development plan laid one
can easily analyse the skills that are lacking and the needful activities that can help
to overcome the lacking in the skills. Through the skills audit, one can rank and mark
his own skills which are present and then rank according to self-evaluation. The
SWOT analysis has helped to trace out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats of an individual in the context of his personal and professional skills set.
The development plan focuses on the needs of the individuals which are aimed to be
enhanced with time. Some time management strategies have also been laid out
focusing on the use of effective time management. And together with it, some
strategies are also devised that helped to overcome the work-related problems which
helped to maintain professional and personal growth as well as render benefits for
both employees and the organisation.
