Introduction
Racial diversity is an integral part especially during the age of globalization. The difference that can
be found across culture, language, ethnicity and colour of skin is essentially an important and
special thing that human kind is bestowed with.
What is racism? In what ways does racism affect diversity?
Racism is the prejudice and discrimination done by one group of people to another with the belief
that their race is superior than the other. It is the hatred shown for one particular race to the other
and this phenomena has occurred throughout the history of humankind.
Racism has always been the prime reason for its negative effect on the cultural diversity (King &
Chandler, 2016). The racial supremacy leads to discriminatory attitude towards other race and this
results to the disrespecting of other cultural aspects. It harms the communal harmony of a
workplace or in a crosscultural setting (King & Chandler, 2016). Moreover, it decreases the morale
of people and even lead to a disruptive state of violence and social disorder. Eventually, it hampers
an atmosphere of peace and create barriers between human beings.
Throughout most of U.S. history, in most locations, what race has been in the majority? What is the
common ancestral background of most members of this group?
Throughout the US history, the White Americans have always been the racial majority, wheras the
African American are the largest racial minority (Slopen et al., 2016). The ancestral background of
the White Americans are said to be of the European origin. They are also said to belong either
from the Middle East or North Africa (Slopen et al., 2016). They are also said to be of the
Caucasean race which is synomyous with white. The racial supremacy of this group is tremendous
(King & Chandler, 2016).
What are some of the larger racial minorities in U.S. history? Identify the common ancestral
backgrounds of each of these groups. When did each become a significant or notable minority group
in the U.S.?

The African American are the largest minorities in the United States have an origin in the Africa.
Therefore, it can be said that most members of this group have their common ancestral
background in Africa (Lauren, 2018). They orioginated from parts of Africa and were brought to
America as slaves (An, 2016). These African American have their common ancestral background
in the African regions. More specifically, they were taken as slaves to the Latin America from the
West African regions in the 16th century (Hope, Skoog & Jagers, 2015).
What are some ways in which laws have been used to enforce discrimination? Provide examples and
identify which racial group(s) were affected.
The discriminatory laws that were enforced in the 1600 to promote racism was the Jim Crow Laws
which were intended against the African American. This particular law was made to segregate the
African Americans from the White Americans (Samson, 2015). Some of the states even demanded
separate black and white texts books for their children to discriminate the blacks from the white.
The laws also required to segregate the public accommodation, schools and railroads (Golash-
Boza, 2016). Despite the introduction of various laws that would eliminate racism, it still is practiced
in the daily lives of people where they are discriminated on a daily basis (Roediger, 2019).
What are some ways in which laws have been used to reduce discriminatory practices? Provide
examples. Summarize the effects of these laws.
The laws that have been established to eliminate racism from the United States are the Civil Rights
Act of 1866, Employment Non-discrimination Act, Voting Rights Act of 1965, Civil Rights Act of
1991, etc. These laws were introduced to stop people from practicing racism constitutionally.
Moreover, these laws amended the social policies which were regressive and hurt the sentiments
of the minorities and stripped them off their civil rights. The introduction of these laws are made to
protect the minorities from racial discrimination and provide them with equal status in the country.
The increased discrimination and the prejudices directed towards the African American was at its
heights in the 19th century. However, during the mid of the 20th century, the laws permitting racism
were gradually began to be eliminated due to the increased criticism by the civil rights movement
(Hope, Skoog & Jagers, 2015). This movement also forced the social policies and laws tregarding
the upholding of racism to get amended. The twenty fourth amendment (1964) invalidated the laws
that restricted the minorities from exercising their voting rights.
Identify any existing social inequities based on race and ethnicity. What are the effects of inequities
on the group?
Despite the efforts of the government to eliminate racial discrimination, equality is still a far distant
concept according to many. The daily lives of a people living in the United States belonging from a
different community reports discriminatory practices against them (King & Chandler, 2016). The
most visible discrimination is on that of the African Americans and the dark skinned who are killed
in many sudden encounters that happen frequently. This has led to severe unrest among the
groups especially the immigrants who face harrassments on a daily basis.

In reference to the above answers, it can be said that the racism in United States still needs to0 be
checked to promote social justice. The protection of immigrants laws should be made strong and
strict laws should be formulated to address any form of social discrimination.
