Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This document presents a completed Natural Resources Worksheet, addressing key concepts related to fossil fuels and alternative energy sources, including their benefits and environmental impacts. The worksheet also explores water supply and management, emphasizing conservation practices and examining local water sources. Furthermore, it investigates endangered species, using the Fish and Wildlife Service website, and delves into the reasons for wildlife conservation. Finally, the assignment discusses agricultural sustainability, summarizing an article on the topic and evaluating the sustainability of current large-scale industrial agriculture, providing an example of a more sustainable practice. Work sheet on natural resources:
Fossil Fuel Alternative Energy
Identify 3 types of both
energy categories and what
they are most often used to
power.
1. Petroleum
2. Natural Gas
3. Coal
1. Biomass
2. Solar Energy
3. Wind Energy
Benefits to using these
energy types
They can be burned to
produce significant amount
of energy per unit mass.
These energy were used to
do various types of work
that supported the living and
development of mankind.
They are used as alternate
resources, as too much
consumption of fossil fuels
will make them extinct and
thus the alternate resources
are used which are
renewable in nature. These
resources do not produce
any kind of harmful gases
that would affect the
environment.
Environmental impacts of
using these energy types
Are these energy types
renewable? Explain.
These resources are non-
renewable in nature, that s
once they are finished they
cannot be returned back to
the nature.
These resources are
renewable in nature that is
they will never get finished
from the environment.

Question Response
Explore water supply and
management in your area using
the internet. What is the source of
your municipality’s drinking
water? Describe any concerns
related to the quantity and
quality of this water source.
Explain one thing you can do in
your everyday activities to
conserve water.
The water supply management in our locality is
executed with a proper water supply management.
The water is initially stored in an area near the water
body through which the water is supplies. Then it is
processes and filtered through different technology
and the water is then sent to various area using
pipelines.
The main source of water in our locality is the river
that is located near our area. The water is processes
and sent to our area from this water body.
The quality of water is good for our area, however,
we prefer to process the drinking water through
personal filters and aqua guards for assuring the best
quality of water. The quantity of water is sufficient
to fulfill the need of the local people, at times there
are issues regarding water supply but that is very
rare and can be neglected.
Water is very important and it must be conserved by
every individual. I have decided to conserve it by
using the water in a systematic manner and
preventing unnecessary water usage like using the
vegetable cleaning water to clean the dishes or
watering the plants. The rain water can be preserved

and used for cleaning and washing purpose. This
way a lot of water can be saved.
Visit this Fish and Wildlife
Service website
(http://www.fws.gov/endangered/
) and perform a search of
endangered species for your state.
Select one species and explain
why it is endangered and what is
being done to help it recover.
The giant sea bass has been is a fish that origins
from North Pacific Ocean. The uncontrolled fishing
and water pollution has declined the quantity of the
fish and has made it endangered. The commercial
and the recreational fishing organizations have been
prohibited fishing of this fish since the year 1982
(Boonyaratpalin, 2017). However, even after the
introduction of the law the fish has become
endangered. Recently there was a comeback of the
fish and it was clear from this that the law has
actually worked and the fish got saved from getting
extinct.
What reason(s) for conserving
life on Earth found in “A Closer
Look 13.3”, pages 299-301, do
you find convincing? Explain.
The conservation of wild life is mainly important
because they support the balance in the eco system.
The wild life is essential to maintain the balance in
food chain. There are many organisms that support
the plantation of crops and curing of diseases. Thus
the conservation of wild life is essential.
Perform an internet search using
the search term “agricultural
sustainability article.” Read one
of the articles you find and
summarize it in 1-2 paragraphs.
The selected article that I have selected to discuss
about agricultural sustainability clearly states that
agricultural depends on the technology and method
used to develop the scope for farmers to improve
their production. However, there must be

Based on this article and the
readings in the text do you think
that current large-scale industrial
agricultural practices are
sustainable? Why or why not?
Give an example of a more
sustainable agricultural practice.
implementation of new approaches that will
integrate biological and ecological process.
The present agricultural industries have high scope
for survival however, they need to keep updating
themselves to develop the latest technology and
increase their production (Boserup, 2017). The
industries are developing including the agricultural
industry.
The sustainable agricultural practice that might help
this industry is the usage of efficient yet low costing
fertilizers that will enhance the growth of the plant
but the price will be comparatively low.
