INTRODUCTION
The life of a student at university is full of good and bad experiences that shape their
lives in a better manner for future course of time. It is often seen that while carrying out studies
at the college campus, a student tends to face some issues or challenges that reduce their
academic productivity and negatively affect their scores in the long run (Jamshidi and et. al.,
2016). Such issues strive to place an adverse influence over the mindsets of students also. In this
relation, it becomes crucial to undertake steps with the help of which such challenges can be
effectively dealt with in a timely manner. This will decrease the negative outcomes linked to
such challenges for the students carrying out studies at university.
The below mentioned project explores the various kinds of challenges that tend to place a
negative influence upon the academic life of individuals at university. Literature, discussion and
recommendations are given in relation to this topic of study. This will provide assistance in
carrying out detailed study over
LITERATURE REVIEW
The academic life of students is acknowledged to be a complex and cumbersome process.
While pursuing a degree at university, individuals tend to face a number of challenges. These
severally impact upon the learning and knowledge base of individuals as their mental state gets
largely affected by the challenges (Ambrose-Miller and Ashcroft, 2016). These challenges strive
to create hindrance for students while taking steps to attain their academic goals in due course of
time. Therefore, it is of crucial significance to students to ensure that such issues are taken into
due consideration in a timely manner so that they can be addressed effectually. When these
challenges are duly tackled by them in due course of time, they are able to come up as efficient
learners who are willing to achieve their academic goals.
As per the thoughts put forth by Hochanadel and Finamore (2015), it is recognised that
time management is one of the most prominent challenges that is faced by a student while
carrying out their academic learning processes. For example: In this relation, it is seen that the
university life is difficult and cumbersome as the individuals have to deal with a number of
assignments, case studies, research, project, power point presentations and many more during
one semester. Sometimes a student is not able to prioritise such tasks in accordance with their
importance. Further, they need to ensure that the class lectures are regularly revised by them so

that comprehensive learning can be carried out by them. This further creates time related issues,
making time management for prioritisation of activities, a significant issue encountered by
students in university life. This tends to decrease the morale of individuals as many times, the
direct result of this is seen in terms of non submission of projects on deadline or low scores in
exams.
As per the ideology of Butler, Pollock, Nomme and Nakonechny (2017), it is
acknowledged that professional commitment is also a prominent challenge that creates hurdle
for students while carrying out studies at university. For example: There are many students
whose financial conditions are not good and they need to work part time along with the college
to meet their own expenses as well as fulfil family responsibilities. In this relation, it is identified
that fulfilling professional commitments along with academic learning is a tiresome and
cumbersome procedure. This put pressure over the students as they have to manage the revision
of classroom lectures and undergoing job responsibilities. Many times, this tends to create
challenges for students as their academic or job progress gets affected as a result of carrying out
work and academic commitments together.
As per the thoughts presented by Islam, Beer and Slack (2015), it has been determined
that lack of time for family due to college commitments is another issue that is faced by students
at university. For example: College life is full of projects, assessments, researches, classroom
lectures which keep students engaged at all times. This often leads them to not having time for
their family members. When individuals pursuing learning at university are not able to find time
for their personal relations, it instils a sense of frustration and sadness within them. This places a
negative influence over their learning productivity and their overall academic progress.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
In accordance with the view points of different authors presented above over the
challenges faced by students in university, it has been analysed that time management is the most
prominent challenge that is encountered by individuals. This put pressure over the students to
prioritise the college assignments, job and revision of classroom learning altogether. Besides
this, meeting work commitment together with academic learning is another challenge that creates
hurdle for students. In addition to this, it is often seen that being exposed to the college
environment makes the lives of students so complex and busy that they are not able to take out
time for their families (Singh, Pandian and Singh, 2015). This has a negative impact over their

productivity, zeal and mental state as they start feeling that every other priority of their life is
getting avoided because of the university. Thus, it is largely required that students take some
effective actions through which some challenges can be handled by them and they can emerge
out of such issues as a excellent learner.
RECOMMENDATIONS
As per the literature put forth over the subject matter and the analysis done above, some
effective recommendations can be given with the help of which students can tackle the issues
encountered at university. Such recommendations are enlisted beneath:-
Students should design a time table or a schedule every single day which lays down the
activities to be carried out by individuals within that particular day. The prioritisation of
activities should be done in accordance with the deadlines of projects or dates of
examinations.
In addition to this, it has also been suggested that students can take help from their peers
as they have knowledge of such issues and would be themselves taking measures to deal
with these challenges. Thus, they can provide knowledge of the ways through which they
got over these challenges and carried out all commitments in an effective manner.
Besides this, time management sessions can be undergone by the students which can
provide aid in learning how to prioritise the tasks as per their relevance in a student’s life.
Apart from this, it is advised that students can also seek support and guidance from their
seniors, tutor or supervisors. They can provide the individuals with information about
effective ways through the employment of which the challenges faced by students while
carrying out studies at university can be addressed.
CONCLUSION
In relation to the literature presented above and the discussion carried out over the same,
the academic life of students while carrying out degree at universities is full of challenges. These
issues tend to hamper the mental state and productivity of students while carrying out learning
procedures. They even cause stress and tension within the students resulting in decreasing their
overall morale while doing studies in the college campus. There are several ways through which
these issues can be addressed by students. One of the most helpful ways is to seek support as
well as guidance on the part of supervisors or tutors. Further, advice can also be sought from

peers or seniors at the university. Seniors can provide effective guidance as they have had
undergone the same issues during their academic learning tenure. Also, the students can take
sessions of time management so that they can learn how to prioritise tasks in accordance with
their significance. These sessions will provide assistance to them in dealing with the pressure of
working within time constraints and ensure that they are able to complete all the tasks within the
time period of deadlines.
