INTRODUCTION
Also known as a municipal park or a public park, an urban park can be defined as a park
in the cities to offer a green and recreation space to the residents as well as the visitors. Urban
parks are generally reserved for the use of the public. Parks are an important part of the city
because they help in fighting against pollution and encourage biodiversity. Not only this, they
also help in maintaining the temperatures as well as levels of humidity within the city. Public
parks play a vital role in the overall social, economic as well as physical wellbeing of a city as
well as its residents. There are many benefits as well as challenges of urban parks. They
encourage active lifestyles among people thereby reducing health costs (Beagon, Niall and Ní
Fhloinn, 2019). Apart from this, they help in making the cities more resilient and strengthen local
economies. They also help in increasing the overall engagement in the community. One of the
main benefits of urban parks is that they filter rain and reduce water pollution. Also, they help in
decreasing the rate of waterborne illnesses and reduce the heat effect. On the other hand, some of
the challenges posed by the urban parks include effectively understanding their use, a lack of
appropriate cost analysis and budget constraints. The main aim of the report is to understand the
impacts of urban parks from different perspectives. The respective report explains the various
impacts of urban parks on tourism and hospitality. It also explains the impacts from
environmental as well as social perspectives such as pollution, sustainability, gentrification as
well as community development. An analysis of all the three perspectives along with
recommendations as to how can the council can either maximize the benefits or minimize the
challenges of building an urban park are also included in the report.

Urban parks or city parks are important for the overall improvement of the community
and also help in enhancing the level of engagement between the community members. the main
aim of this report is to develop an understanding of the impacts of different perspectives of an
urban park. The three different perspectives are identified below –
The Impacts on the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Industries
Tourism can be referred to as travelling from one place to another for either pleasure or
business-related purposes. When people travel to one destination, they are interested in visiting

different places there. Urban parks can serve an important role within a city or a town and can
have a positive impact on the tourists (Bondarenko and et.al., 2020). This is because the visitors
will use the area as urban parks enhance the overall attractiveness of a city and attract the
tourists. This is because they can visit the parks for recreational activities or to get refreshed and
even enjoy a variety of other activities. Studies have shown that a lot of people who visit to a
new destination are interested in exploring new places including places wherein they are exposed
to the natural environment and other tourist spots within the destination (Evans, Henderson and
Ashton-Hay, 2019). Urban parks not only provide a space for recreational activities but also
enhance the overall attractiveness of the city thereby attracting a greater number of tourists.
Urban parks provide an opportunity for conducting different types of events in the parks that not
only attract the members of the local community but also people who have visited the place for
the first time.
Cities are usually filled with pollution and thus, people who visit the place look for
spaces that are peaceful and where they can be with the nature (Viinikka and Ubani, 2019). By
visiting an urban park, the tourists get a chance to interact and engage with the local people and
know more about the place. A city can have different urban parks at different points. The local
authority can set up permanent hospitality facilities such as the park café. This is a great
opportunity and can have a positive impact on the overall tourism within the city. This is because
the tourists would be interested in visiting cafes that are near to a green space such as an urban
park in the middle of the city. Besides this, urban parks also promote health and wellbeing

The impacts from an environmental perspective
Urban parks can also have an impact on the environment to a significant level and these
can be both positive as well as negative. For example, urban parks supply the cities with various
ecosystem services which can include regulation of the climate as well as biodiversity in the
urban areas (Khan and et.al., 2017). This is because in urban areas, air temperature, solar
radiation, relative humidity as well as the speed of the wind vary significantly due to the
environment. therefore, urban parks help in maintaining the temperatures as well as relative
humidity in these levels. This further helps in improving the overall environment condition
within the urban areas. Apart from this, since the water as well as air pollution levels are high in

Sociological perspectives can be defined as how social backgrounds of people can
influence their behavior as well as attitudes. Urban green spaces such as parks can have an
impact on the overall community (Lin and Magnuson, 2018). This is because they help in

increasing the promoting positive social interactions among the people that can otherwise impact
the overall environment. Urban parks can also help in the overall development of a community
by promoting social cohesion, which can be defined as the extent of connectedness among the
different groups of a society. It can also be referred to as the extent to which the local people
within a community feel connected with it. People who are exposed to the natural environment
have reported a reduced level of stress and anxiety. This means that urban parks can help in
increasing the overall psychological as well as physical well being of people living in urban
areas.
People belonging to all age groups such as children, young adults as well as adults
participate in some or the other form of outdoor recreational activities (Ruge and McCormack,

community. This is because it can help in attracting tourist as well as promote a healthy and
positive lifestyle. There are many benefits of building an urban park such as they help in
preventing water floods by absorbing the same into the soil. Apart from this, green spaces such
as urban parks also allow the people of the community to engage in recreational activities as well
as build their social networks by interacting with each other. Apart from this, the overall quality
of air as well as groundwater within the city is improved. There can also be certain challenges
that can impact the environment to a great extent. But at the same time, they also promote social
cohesion as well as an increased level of engagement among the people of the community.

Recommendations
There are certain recommendations that can be made to the council while building the
urban park. The council is recommended to build the urban park in a space that will be nearby to
everyone in the residential areas. At the same time, the members of the council should make sure
that even tourists have the accessibility to the park. The park should be built in a public area with
outdoor exercise equipment installed within the space. This will allow the people to exercise
without having to spend money on a gym. It is recommended that a lot of plants as well as trees
should be planted so as to increase the water holding capacity as well as improving the overall
quality of air within the locality. Proper playground structures should be planned so that the
children get a place to play their favorite sports. Along with this, different playground elements
should be installed within the park. It is also recommended that the council should focus on
setting up the site amenities such as benches as well as picnic tables so that people can come and
spend time with their friends and family members.
There are also other recommendations that can be made to the council members that will
help in maximizing the benefits for the public as well as minimizing any challenges. By planting
a lot of trees, the overall air quality can be improved. This will also promote sustainability of the
environment. it is recommended to install dustbins within the park in order to avoid any harm to
the environment. also, it should be kept in mind that there is appropriate lighting in the park. The
council is recommended to first get the budget approved by the local authority in order to avoid
any issues in the future. Lastly, in order to ensure that the urban park has a proper infrastructure,
it is recommended that the council should consult an architect who can guide with the overall
process.
