INTRODUCTION
Tourism is an important part in the country through which economy can significantly
develop. In various aspect such as economic development, employment, enhance beauty and
infrastructure of country, tourism helps country. Thus, it can be said that in order to develop
national economy of country, tourism have great role and importance. Urban tourism is type of
tourism activity which takes place in an urban space with its inherent attributes. It includes non-
agricultural based economy such as trade and services, manufacturing, administration,
transportation etc. This activity encounters and interact with local and helps in making
investment due to projection of the positive image. Urban tourism is also known as city tourism.
It refers to multiple tourist activities which is organised within the city. It is a set of tourist
resource and activities that are located in the town and cities.
In the present investigation, scholar main aim is to understand the significance of Urban
tourism activities in development of London city. Researcher have designed several objectives
regarding urban tourism development which helps in identifying the ways to achieve determined
aim. In addition to this, various methods of research methodology have been also applied by
scholar for analysing the importance of urban tourism activities in the London city.

Significance of the study
The current investigation main aim is to analyse the significance of Urban Tourism
activities in Development of London City. There are various kinds of investigation conducted on
the topic that is significance of urban tourism development. The main purpose of conducting this
investigation is to analyse the gap which is left by previous researcher regarding the research on
same topic with help of this study, scholar can easily understand the importance of urban tourism
activities in the development of London City. Several activities of Urban tourism that helps
London city in becoming most attractive place has been discussed in this research. Thus, it can
be stated that this research study helps to provide detail knowledge regarding urban tourism and
its importance within country.
Literature Review
Concept of Urban Tourism
According to the view of Hall, (2002) tourism plays a very crucial role in development of
economy in the country. It provides various opportunities to community as well as country in the
world. Urban Tourism offer a broad and heterogeneous range of cultural, architectural,
technological, social and natural experience and product for leisure and business. It is a beauty of
country which attract large numbers of tourist. In the opinion of Hall, (2005) stated that urban
tourism is a set of tourist resources or activities located in towns and cities. Urban tourism
divided into several aspects such as converted cities, tourism historic cities, capital cities, large
historical cities, inner city area, revitalised waterfront area, industrial area etc. Urban tourism
always preferred by higher income group because in this includes expensive activities, function
and program that cannot afford by lower income group of customers. Furthermore, it has more
and more popular tourism products and its destination most probably not further than 3 hours of
flight.
Jansen-Verbeke, Vandenbroucke and Tielen, (2005) stated that in the present time, due to
changing several aspects such as technology, innovation, education, usage of internet, various
functions and activities, urban tourism has been completely changed as compare to previous.
According to the view of Maitland and Newman, (2009) Tourism has developed and improved
with help of innovation and usage of new technology. There are several kinds of changes which
has occurred in the tourism as compare to previous one. In the previous time, customer cannot
book their ticket through online mode and they have to go to physical store for collecting

information regarding the tourism destination, place, tourist product, cost, time, schedule etc. But
nowadays, customer can easily collect information regarding tourism and book their ticket with
help of internet and technology.
Kinds of urban tourism activities which has contributed to economic development of London
According to the view of Dzogovic and Koteski, (2018) Tourism plays a very essential
role in the London economy. One of the major important impact of urban tour in London is that,
it helps in development of tourism in their city that helps in improving national economy. There
are various kinds of sectors included in the tourism such as hotels, restaurant, travel agencies,
entertainment, accommodation, transportation, attractive destination etc. These all helps country
in improving its infrastructure and standard. It also provides large numbers of employment
opportunity to local people, as community can get job in the tourism sector. With help of tourism
sector, more than 1 million people get job in the London city. There are various elements and
activities in the Urban tourism that aids in economic development such as accommodation in
London, Free London attraction, Food and Drinks, Shopping in London, Sports in London and
London River Thames.

In the opinion of Jasmi and Mohamad, (2018) stated place of Westiminster is one of most
visited tourist attraction because of Big Ben and Thames. It is a place of meeting of House of
common and House of Lord that is two houses of the Parliament in UK. In addition to this Big
Ben is the nickname for great bell of the Place of Westminster in London. It has height of 96
meters.

major attractive destination of London's Skyline. It boasts some London's best views from it 32

London that have effective contribution. These all helps the city in enhancing its beauty and
infrastructures. Due to tourism activities and attractive destinations in London, Tourist attracts
towards it through which national income significantly increased. The popularity of the London
city has also increased with help of various activities, destinations and places. In the opinion of

opportunity of employment. As there is various accommodation such as luxury, middle level and

the country. As per the research it has been found that majority of people have improved their
living standard and enhance their sources of living with help of urban tourism.

As per the view of Cazcarro, Hoekstra and Chóliz, (2014) infrastructure and amenities is
one of the best way through which London city can improve its image and become one of the
most popular tourist destination in the future. In this strategy, with help of more infrastructure
and amenities, London can easily attract large numbers of visitors and tourists. In the opinion of
Choi and Sirakaya, (2006) stated that with help of promotion and advertisement, London can

 Research Technique- Research Technique is significant aspect that enables scholar to
analyse, assess and interpret information regarding subject. It helps researcher in getting
appropriate outcome of investigation by interpreting data. Qualitative and quantitative are
major two kinds of research technique through which information can be collected,
assessed and interpreted (Creswell, 2013). In the qualitative method, researcher design
questionnaire which is asked to respondents in the survey. In the thematic analyse
different themes are prepared on the basis of the response. In the present study, scholar
have applied qualitative research technique for conducting study on significance of urban
tourism activities in development of London city. In this method, various themes and
charts have prepared on the basis of which interpretation is done.
 Research approach- This method aids scholar in collecting information in specific and
general form. Inductive and deductive are major two kinds of research approach (Daniel
and Sam, 2011). The selection of research approach depends upon aim and objective of
investigation. The current study is based on the significance of urban tourism activities
thus, used for collecting information, assimilator have applied deductive research
approach by which scholar can easily understand actual objective of the study.
 Research Philosophies- This method provide a well systematic way to conduct
investigation throughout appropriate outcome can easily collect. Interpritism and
positivism are major two kinds of research philosophy (Cormier and Hagman, 2014).
Interpretivism philosophy focused on the various theories and models that is related to

subject. When in the positivism research philosophy, wrong or unreliable information is
eliminated from study. Scholar have applied positivism research philosophy in the
present study so as effective information can gather regarding urban tourism in London
city.
 Research Design- Research Design is a strategy that allows users to gather information
about subject. It classified into three types that is descriptive, explanatory and exploratory
for conducing study on the significance of urban tourism activities in the development in
London, exploratory research design has applied which aid in disclose all uncovered
issues that included in the investigation.
 Data collection- Data collection is known as the strategy that will help in giving
distinctive sources from where data can be assembled. For the specialist, it is essential to
gather the data with a specific end goal to get a legitimate result (Cohen, Manion and
Morrison,2013). There are two sources from where data can be gathered that are primary
and secondary. The current study is based on the significance of urban tourism activities
in development of London city. For collect primary information on the urban tourism
activities in the London, scholar have selected primary source under which survey has
conducted by researcher for collect information regarding urban tourism activities.
 Sampling- To conduct investigation from large population is very difficult for scholar
that is why sampling method is required to be used in the study. It majorly two types that
is probabilistic and non-probabilistic (Bryman and Bell, 2015). Random sampling is a
method of probabilistic sampling. Researcher have selected random sampling method
under which 50 tourist of London city are selected as sample size.

hand, 5 respondents are dissatisfied with the same statement. Thus, from this collected
information it has been assessed that in order to improve economic development in London city,

Interpretation: This section stated that Urban tourism activities enhance the living standard and
image of the city. As in the Urban tourism includes various activities through which popularity
and image of the city can automatically improve. People can get better knowledge about
effective living with help of tourism, Transportation, infrastructure, and other various facilities
helps people in improve their living standard as well as city image. Thus, from this collected
information it has been analysed that image of the city and standard of living can enhance with
help of Urban Tourism.
CONCLUSION AND DISCUSSION
From this entire investigation about the significance of urban tourism activities in the
London city it has been analysed and concluded that urban Tourism activities assist London city
in various aspects such as infrastructure, transportation, employment opportunity, popularity of
country, living standard of people can significantly improve On the basis of collected data
during the during survey, it has been analysed that majority of tourists believed that in order to
improve economic development of country, Urban tourism have large contribution in city of
London. There are several places and destinations such as Westiminster, Sea Life London,

Tower of London, Kensington palace etc. through which beauty and attractiveness of London
has been enhanced. Visitors are motivated to visit the London city because of its attractive
locations and destinations. It has been also concluded that local community have opportunity to
improve their living standard and get job due to this urban tourism in the London city.
With helps of Urban tourism, London city has become one of the most famous and
popular city in the world. From the research it is also observed that most of the tourists find the
urban tourism activities as the major criterion to predict the development status of the city. The
developments in urban tourism of London gives message to tourist that the city is continuous
process of development and it provides the best facilities to its citizens. With advanced
infrastructures the city can be considered as the most desired destinations for travelling purpose.
It is also found from the research that when regulating authorities provides sincere efforts in
maintaining these urban tourism facilities then the tourists are more assure regarding their
security.
Thus, it can be concluded from the investigation that urban tourism plays a crucial role in
development of city. It has also been concluded from the survey that 40 respondents out of 50
tourists are satisfied that Urban tourism in the London city enhances economic development. As
there are various activities included in the Urban tourism such as accommodation, transportation,
attractive destination, hotel, resort etc. These all activities of Urban Tourism help in economic
development of London city. In the survey many of the respondents are strongly agreed with
statement that revenue and income of the country can automatically improve, if country performs
activities of Urban Tourism in effective and efficient manner. Thus, it can be said that Urban
tourism also helps country in increasing its national economy and income through which several
kinds of activities and programs can initiate in the country. From the entire research the aim of
the investigation is effectively meet as it has been proved that there is a great significance and
contribution of urban tourism in the economic development of London city.
