Project
AI Summary
This project analyzes nonverbal communication in the workplace, comparing the United States and India. The student explores three key aspects: eye contact, time, and territory. The assignment begins by summarizing how the book describes these forms of nonverbal communication in the US. The student then explains how these forms differ in their home culture (India), highlighting cultural nuances and potential misinterpretations. The project emphasizes that nonverbal cues can have different meanings across cultures, potentially leading to misunderstandings. The student uses examples to illustrate differences, such as the duration of eye contact and attitudes toward punctuality and personal space. The analysis includes references to support the discussion.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION PROCESS AND PRODUCTS
Nonverbal Communication is very important role in workplace. It differs from one
culture to another. The nonverbal communication which is found in America is quite different
from what is found in India. There are different forms of nonverbal communications which
include Eye Contact, Time and Territory.
The first form is Eye Contact, which is very necessary in order to engage in
communication in a business setting (Phutela, 2015). According to American culture, Eyes, to a
great extent reveal how a person is. A person’s truthfulness can often be understood by looking
into the eyes. Making eye contact, thus, sends across positive messages if they are not intrusive
and for long, which can, on the contrary become intimidating. The second form is Time, is a
crucial factor in workplace as it helps to understand a person’s priority of work. If a person
arrives on time or dedicates a long period, it might suggest that it is of great importance
(Nickolayev, Svintorzhitskaja, Bondar & Ermakova, 2015). Whereas, a delay of action, being
late or not paying enough time to something can suggest lack of interest or priority on the
subject. The third type is Territory, it has been seen that people are particular about territory.
Some people are very particular about their territory and do not like it when their space is
invaded.
These attributes tend to often be different in other cultures, such as in India. India is
dominated by Eastern culture which may tend to retain its conservativeness when it comes to
communication. Eye Contact for a longer period is also considered to be intimidating and takes
place briefly for necessary communication. When a certain form of nonverbal communication is
effective in one culture, it might be offensive in another due to the meanings which are
associated with gestures and cues (Nickolayev, Svintorzhitskaja, Bondar & Ermakova, 2015). In
India, making eye contact for long might make the other person feel insecure. Even though time

is very vital to coordinate work but America is more particular about punctuality as compared to
India. There might be a bit more relaxation regarding time. While they are very particular about
their territory. They might not encourage someone violating their territory if they are not close to
them.
