HEALTHCARE REFORMS
The Trump government replaced Obamacare or Affordable Care Act with its own
health-care reform bill as a result, the percentage of adult population living without health
insurance increased drastically during the first quarter of 2017. According to Gallup-
Healthways poll, at least 11.3% of the US population lacks health insurance during the onset
of the 2017 as opposed to 10.9% during 2016 (Thomas, 2017). The main reasons behind the
rise of the uninsured population are high cost of the premium, lack of job opportunities of
loss of job, lost of Medicaid, ineligibility of the employer to offer health insurance to the
employees, change in family status. Moreover, majority of the young population thinks that
there is no need for health insurance coverage (Key Facts about the Uninsured Population,
2017). The main groups of people who are out of the coverage of the health insurance are
people who are below 65 years of age, children who are under 19 years old, non-Hispanic
Whites, Asian peoples residing in United States (Bureau, 2017). In order to bring these
groups of population under the coverage, government must come up with new policies like
decrease in the insurance premium, increase in the job opportunities and generation of
awareness among the aboriginal and rural people.
