1TALIBAN AND AMERICA
The respective paper is an essay about the role of America in making situations and
contexts for giving birth to Taliban government in Afghanistan which led a massacre in America
in the year 2001, in September 11, which is also called the 9/11 terrorist attacks in America. The
9/11 terrorist attacks in America changed the course of contemporary history and politics of the
world to a greater extent. The respective paper intends to denote the political power play that has
been utilized by the government of the United States that has given rise to the radical
fundamentalist and obnoxious Taliban government in Afghanistan and its significance in the
contemporary global platform.
9/11 terrorist attacks in America in the year 2001 is considered to be the deadliest
terrorist attacks in the history of the mankind across the globe. Popularly known as the
September 11 attacks, it can be defined as a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the
Islamic terrorist groups known as “The Al Qaeda” against the United States on Tuesday, 11th
September, 2001, in Washington in the early morning. The 9/11 attacks killed nearly 2,996
people and injured over 6,000 others, which had cost the country a damage of more than $10
billion in terms of damage of infrastructure and property. Moreover, the survivors of the 9/11
attack had eventually died after a few months or years by suffering from cancer or respiratory
diseases which was highly influenced by the toxic substances used in the attack. The 9/11 attack
was deadly and it claimed the maximum number of life in the history of mankind which had
been condemned and shamed throughout the world. 1
Taliban government which instigated as well as organized and directed “Al Qaeda” to
attack America in 9/11 was formed in Afghanistan in the year 1996. The Afghanistan citizens

had been fighting for their life and safety and wanted to get rid of America which led them to
become more radical and fundamental, thereby, giving rise to regressive parties like Taliban
which domesticated deadly terrorist organizations such as “Al Qaeda”. 2However, the birth of Al
Qaeda could be traced by the commencement of Soviet Union dominance on Afghanistan. After
the Soviet Union successfully launched itself on the grounds of Afghanistan in the year 1979, the
Islamic mujahideen fighters, (who considered themselves to be the savior armies of the Almighty
or God or Allah) engaged in war with the forces of the Soviet Union. There have been no
evidences about America helping the terrorist organization directly, but there has been evidence
that a certain amount of military support has been provided to the terrorist organization by the
country, as told by the reports.3
The entry of Soviet Union into Afghanistan in the December 1979 prompted its rivals of
the cold war, which were the United States, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and China. There has been a
pervasive myth about the fact that it was the United States that was responsible for allegedly
training Taliban and its chief, Osama Bin Laden. It has to be remembered that Afghanistan has
rich diversity linguistically as well as ethnically. The “Pashtuns” are the largest ethnic groups of
Afghanistan which represents almost 38 per cent of the population of the country of Afghanistan.
The reason for Afghanistan’s epic fall as a country can be marked at its diversity.4 Diversity has

given way to more unrealistic demand in the country. However, after the catastrophic insurgency
by the Taliban government, the relationship between the two nations has worsened with time.
The United States has been performing aggressively to end the “war of the civilizations” because
it has not only claimed life and property, but also the international peace and integrity as well. It
has to be remembered that there has been important actions and events that happened between
the government of Afghanistan and the government of the United States of America which has
subsequently triggered the socio-religious sentiments of the Afghanistan government which has
led to the terrorist attack of the 9/11 in Washington. Afghan-American relationship became more
intimate and powerful during the start of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United
States. Prime Minister Daoud Khan in 1958 became the first Afghan to be speaking in the United
States Congress held in Washington D.C. 5 The United States of America helped Afghanistan by
providing them with economic help and co-operation so that they can rebuild their infrastructure
of the nation, such as building of roads, dams, industries and power plants. However, the United
States of America had been planning to use the fragmented governing bodies of Afghanistan as a
proxy to dismantle the power of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, as America had its own share
of political animosity against the respective nation.
However, it also as to be remembered that the foreign policies of the United States in the
middle-east which in particular, have always been supporting Israel, was one of the reasons why
the September 11 attacks had been staged and executed. According to Bin Laden, the excessive
support of the United States of America towards Israel was the reason for such heinous crime

committed by them. The support that Israel had been given by America in order to invade the
southern Lebanon in 1982 was one of the reasons that triggered anger and hatred of Bin Laden
towards America as well as “Americanism” and Bin Laden had already, in the 1980s, started the
campaign of boycott of the goods and services of the United States in their country and the
respective other middle eastern countries as well. The rage against America turned into a radical
and fundamental Islamic paradigm where the Islamic scholars openly shunned the Western way
of life. Therefore, the religious fanatic sentiments among the Muslims in gulf and North west
frontiers increased resulted in forming “Al Qaeda” and Taliban6.
The respective paper concludes to be an essay about the role of America in making
