INTRODUCTION
Data information is the resource which is used by businesses for the purpose of decision
making. The main aim of this report is to build an understanding about the concepts of data
collection and the techniques by which data can be collected (Gray, 2019). In this report, a case
scenario is selected of a gym. This gym is planning to be renovated for the fulfilment of their
short and long term purposes of satisfying their customers and earning higher revenuers. In this
report, questionnaire as a technique of data collection is justified and created by which data can
be collected.
MAIN BODY
Suitability of questionnaire technique of data collection for this specific project
A questionnaire is an instrument of research which is used to collect the data. A
questionnaire has series of questions which are asked by the respondents by which data is
gathered and further used to be analysed and interpreted. Questionnaire provides the luxury to
ask the questions from respondents which are both open ended and close ended. Questionnaire
technique is similar to the data collection technique of interview but the only difference is that
questionnaire is in written form. There are various reasons due to which the technique of
questionnaire is most suitable for the renovation plan case of the gym. These reasons are
mentioned below:
Economical – The gym which is planning to be renovated is a small gym which is
planning to spent a substantial amount on the process of renovation. This organisation
cannot afford to spend high value for the research purposes. Questionnaire is an
economic technique in which expenses such as printing and few stationary is only used
due to which this data collection technique is most suitable for them (Patten, 2016).
Less time consuming – The gym will gather the information from their existing
customers. Usually when people exercise in gym, their aim is to be relax and
concentrated rather than be annoyed by the question. In such case, the technique of
questionnaire is most appropriate as close ended questionnaire only requires few minutes
to fill out the questionnaire by which time of the clients will be saved.
Written form – This gym is intending to gather the information from their existing and
prospect clients due to which it is important to have a record about the data collected.

Questionnaire can even be mailed to the customers by which a permanent record for their
responses can be utilised (Mohorko and Hlebec, 2016).
Type of data – Questionnaire can assist in collection of all type of data whether
qualitative or quantitative. In the present case, gym needs to ask questions about what
changes can improve their gym and suggestions which can help in enhancing the
customer satisfaction. For this purpose, gym has to ask both qualitative and quantitative
questions from their customers for which the technique of questionnaire is most
appropriate.
Easy analysis and visualisation – Questionnaire is a data collection technique which can
collect any type of data and can convert it into quantitative data which is easy to be
interpreted. Numbers can be easily mould in the form of charts and graphs. The existing
gym is small scale business with high growth prospects, there are no strategist in this
organisation which can assist for data analysis. The technique of data analysis will help
this company to easily visually represent their data and make informed decisions.
Comparability – Another reason behind the suitability of questionnaire for gym case is
comparability. By using questionnaire, the selected gym can compare the two forms of
questionnaire and can analyse what their existing and prospective client requires from
this gym and can action accordingly (Sousa, Matson and Dunn Lopez, 2017).
All above points are the justifications which implies that the questionnaire is the best tool for
data collection for the selected gym.
Suggest what data they need to collect
The gym case which is selected is planning to renovate the gym. For this case, it is important
to collect the data not only from the existing clients but also from the prospect clients by which
aim of high revenues will be achieved. As per the purpose of this gym, there is a certain type of
data which is required to be collected. This type of data is suggested below:
The basic information which requires to be gathered is whether the respondent is an
existing client or a prospect client because this will influence the response on other
questions as well.
It is also suggested that the data about the equipment which needs to be included in gym
should be collected along with the inclusions which will improve the customer
satisfaction.

which will pursue customers to pay more for the services.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that questionnaire is the best technique for data
collection as it is suitable for both qualitative and quantitative data. In the present case selected,
the suitable of this technique is concluded to be high as it involves low cost and high reliability.
