The vaccines have saved so many lives suffering from infectious diseases. The control
of several infectious diseases has been one of the greatest achievements of medicines. If it is
talked before the 20th century, it was not possible to control infectious diseases. Moreover,
infectious diseases were a constant danger. The vaccines are not treatments for diseases but
precautionary procedures against a disease. The vaccines have a great role in assisting people
to stay healthy. The vaccines are more required for each strain. There are several vaccines
have been developed in various nations to prevent different kinds of diseases. These have a
great role in protecting individuals from illness spread by microorganisms like viruses and
bacteria which cause illness.
The vaccines are constituent offers immunity to the disease. The vaccines can be
created from a dead pathogenic microorganism or a particular part of the bacteria. The
immunization process is linked with the vaccinations as it is the procedure of being
immunized with a vaccine and becoming resistant to the disease. The vaccines have a great
role in stimulating the immune system to enable memory cells (Science Learning Hub, 2008).
These cells protect against specific diseases in the coming period. After being vaccinated,
even if the disease occurs again, then the memory cells quickly make antibodies. These
antibodies have the ability to recognize and neutralize antigens which enables the body to
eradicate the disease instantly before any harm.
The vaccines are not about just protecting itself but to defend people around. It saves
a person from spreading the serious disease to any person who is not vaccinated. By being
vaccinated, a person can minimize the risk of attaining disease or infection. The vaccines help
stop epidemics and pandemics. There is also the tendency of reappearing disease if
individuals stop being vaccinated. Such instance has been seen tuberculosis which is making
an advent internationally. It has been found that the old vaccine for tuberculosis is not much
effective, therefore new ways have been found out by scientists to make the tuberculosis
vaccine more effective (Science Learning Hub, 2010). Though vaccines exist for all types of
disease, be it viral and bacterial. But some diseases have not been covered by the vaccines
such as influenzas and the common cold. The vaccines for such diseases are not possible to
inject into the body.
There are also therapies in the form of measures that can be used to assist in the
body’s natural defences fighting to infectious diseases. The therapies strengthen the immune
system to conduct its activities comprising vitamins, drugs, exercise, healthy eating and more.

The antibiotics have been initially constituent derived from living microorganisms. These
constrain the progress of other microorganisms. The antibiotics either abolish bacteria or
avert it from increasing. Most of the antibiotics used today are man-made. But antibiotics are
not capable of destroying viruses. Therefore, viruses are tending to communicate infectious
diseases even at present. No authentic treatments have been developed to date although some
antiviral treatments are accessible (Science Learning Hub, 2010). Some other treatments are
being developed which will make illness run more rapidly.
