Addendum:
The Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is a community health service organization
that operates in the province of British Columbia (BC) (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2017). The
health organization delivers the service to the residents who live in the communities including
Vancouver, Sunshine Coast, Richmond, Powell River, Sea to Sky Corridor, Bella Coola and
Bella Bella (Geog.uvic.ca, 2017). Vancouver has 13 hospitals for the providence of the better
health service to the residents of the particular area and the communities. In addition, the
organization has efficient and adequate human resource to deliver the intended service to the
people. Apart from this, the organization prepares he service plan very year for operating its 13
hospitals and the additional service to the people. The health service organization delivers the
following service:
Primary care
Mental health and substance use service
Hospital care
Public health
Community based residential and home health care
Research
The VSH does not serve any particular community; rather it serves the all the aboriginal
communities living in the BC province in terms of the health and mental care. There are fourteen
communities in the operation area of the organization such as Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai’xais,
Lil'wat, Musqueam, N’Quatqua, Nuxalk, Samahquam, Sechelt, Skatin, Squamish, Tla’amin,
Tsleil-Waututh, Wuikinuxv, and Xa’xtsa. The organization supports the communities in the
population growth with the help of the special Populating Health team. The organization has
direct connection with the communities and though this VCH identifies the health inequities and
requirements of them. The health inequities of the aboriginal people are served by the
organization. The health care need of the communities is the nutrition, early childhood
development, food security, mental health development, health awareness and others (World
Health Report, 2017). The aim of the organization is to initiate the population approach to the
aboriginal communities and provide health service to them.
