A. Value proposition and benefits of the Vancouver Convention center
The Vancouver convention center has a broad variety of services that include exhibition
centers, ball rooms, meeting rooms and outdoor plazas. The Vancouver convention center
is focused on sustainable practices while maintaining a large space, integrated with
cutting edge technology. They believe in Innovation, Trust, Service excellence and
accountability. Moreover, it is in the midst of a multicultural city with a diverse population
of 2.3 Million and most of them staying quite near to the center. In my opinion, it will be an
added benefit for us to have greater participation in our biking and cycling event
(vancouverconventioncentre.com, 2019). In my opinion, the usage of sustainable décor is
the most valuable and outstanding aspect and hence, we should go ahead with this venue
for our event.
B. Green practices by Vancouver convention center that would impact our event
Vancouver Convention center has an expensive carpet flooring done which is
covered with recyclable plastic sheeting during events; this helps saving the
environment. There is a unique artificial roof designed to act as an insulator
and reduces heat gains during the summer and heat loss in winter.
The Vancouver convention center is Certified LEED® Canada Platinum; with
rain water harvesting facilities. This water can be used of our event.
A marine habitat has been built into the western building’s foundation which
has improved the surrounding water quality, and the roof has few bee hives;
bees help to pollinate the plants and give honey for scratch kitchen.
It has Water conservation and black water treatment plant that uses
system for desalinization and water reused in toilets and rooftop irrigation;
can be used by bikers for general purposes (lmnarchitects.com, 2014)
Locally harvested Hemlock wood materials are used across the facilities,
which are obtained from sustainably-managed forests; the center also
leverages energy efficient lighting. They use recyclable containers and
encourage the suppliers also to do so.

The center has a Natural ventilation system for superior air quality; there
won’t be any suffocation issues for biking event guests
It uses Seawater heat pump system for heating and cooling purposes for the
biking event; this reduces wastage and usage of pure water.
C. Additional services at Vancouver Convention Center
They use Wi-Fi systems to display advertisements on glass pillars
They have in house catering support for all food related needs
They have 24*7 secured valet parking facilities for the guests.
They have numerous loading bays for easy move-in and move-out process
(Rob, 2019)
D. Brief interpretation of customer testimonies
There have been some good reviews about the Vancouver convention center. Customers
who have attended events have appreciated the venue. The first-time visitors were
surprised to see additional facilities like inflatable basketball court and bleachers in the no-
sport exhibition areas. Some people have said that the location is walking distance from
restaurants. The hygiene level is very good and center is beautiful (especially the artificial
reef). They use many sustainable décor products. Some media rooms have also mentioned
that the rooms are clean and staff is very friendly (N.A, 2019).
E. Vancouver Convention center scheduled events in March 2020; similar events
The Vancouver convention Center holds more than 500 events of all types across the year.
The upcoming events in and around March 2020 are the HEALTHY FAMILY EXPO 2020 on
MARCH 29 (location is EAST BUILDING). Along with this, on the same day i.e. 29th March
2020, the Canada's largest food & health event for families is happening at the Vancouver
Convention Centre. These are some of the events where participation is expected at a large
scale. Moreover, there is a BC bike show event from 29th Feb 2020 to 1st March 2020 (very
similar to our event). This can be a threat to our event and hence it is advisable to hold our
biking and cycling event either towards early February 2020 or mid of March to avoid any
overlaps in the schedule and interest of the people (10times.com, 2019).

F. Conclusion and recommendations
It is suggested to have the event in month of February 2020 (1st week) as there is biking
event already at same location towards February 2020 end. No change is required in the
venue. From a facilities and services point of view, Vancouver center is the best venue for us
as it creates value for our event and has ample benefits related to location and ambience.
