Introduction
Hospitality and tourism is a vast industry which provides the different services to the people
such as event planning, theme parks, transportation and many others. Many countries are
facing the problems due to some natural disasters. Hospitality and tourism industry helps the
countries at the time of disaster as per their responsibilities (Chauhan, and Singh, 2017). In
this report, Vanuatu has been taken into consideration to analyse these issues. Vanuatu is a
pacific island country which is located in the South Pacific Ocean. The island faced many
issues related to government which will be discussed in this report.
In the beginning of the report, the ethical and government issues will be discussed. Later on
the discussion is made on the act of PO Cruises in order to solve the issues. The steps taken
by Australian and Vanuatu government for solving the issues of the government will also be
discussed. At the end of the report, the recommendation will be provided to overcome on
these issues.
Ethical and Government issues
There are many issues which are facing by the citizens of Vanuatu. After the independence in
the year of 1980, the citizens of the country faced the political unrest and fought with their
neighbours such as Fiji. It has been seen that the bad things happened to Vanuatu when the
president of the Vanuatu went abroad (News, 2015). In the year 2010, the prime minister of
the county Edward Natapei was lost seat due to the non-confidence vote of his own cabinet

many issues. In the year 2015, the people are arrested for the corruption and the people who

10Years. But after the president of Vanuatu, the parliament speaker pardoned themselves
which is considered as the unethical step. These are the governing issues which were faced by
the citizen of Vanuatu.
The citizens of Vanuatu also faced the many other issues due to lack of facilities such as
home water, and toilets. People faced the health issues due to lack of facilities of toilets. The
community toilets are used by visitors only and local people use the other toilets which are
not clean. These toilets are locked after the visiting of tourism until the next visit of the
foreigners. Poverty is the issue which is faced by the citizens of Vanuatu. It has been seen
that the money is not used in the proper manner for the development of Vanuatu (Cheer, et.
al, 2018). There is less source of earning income which is a major issue for the citizens.
Group of people open their stalls for visitor but after the visitor their no other source to raise
the income. Due to the lack of facilities and income sources, the people of Vanuatu increase
the death rate ratio of the country. There are the many issues which are face by the people of
Vanuatu due to many reasons but the main reason of these issues is corruption. Lack of
electricity, water, toilets increases the many health issues such as Malaria, Skin Diseases and
Scabies. Vanuatu is a famous place for visit and every year many of people come from
different countries through P&O Cruises (SBS, 2013).

Small, 2015)

responsibility of government to punish the each and every people who included in crime
cases. No one is considered as above the law, the government of Australia has to take the
legal actions against the criminals. The government should also invest in education so that the
people will educate more and the country will grow quickly. People of Vanuatu have to stand
against the corruption so that the government of the country also scared to perform any illegal
task (Holcombe, and Boudreaux, 2015).
