B) THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
What is the basic concept and significance of veganism?

According to Silva Souza, Atkinson and Montague (2020), Veganism is defined as the
concept in which living standard of people is developed in such a way that they try to avoid such
practices and forms of animal exploitation and animal cruelty. Under this practices people avoid
food, clothes and any other items which involves animal cruelty in any sense or form. Veganism
is better for environment and health of individual but at the same time this trend has tarnished the
market and business of meat and dairy industry. Vegans are becoming aggressive in promoting
their own diets and in this manner people are promoting their eating habits and views. This is
being examined higher positive impacts are received by environment and this is leading the eco
system to flourish and sustain in better way.
According to PARKINSON and et. al., (2020), Veganism is regarded as the philosophy
in which such practices are avoided which are related with minimising such practices to provide
minimum harm to animals and their exploitation as well. Going vegan is regarded as t the
greatest opportunities in which more learning is exerted in respect of gaining nutrition and
cooking in order to improve overall diet. Vegan people are regarded laced with such habits in
which they are not consuming any sort of meat, eggs and dairy products. The person who is
abstained with animals is regarded as vegan. Vegan diets are only consuming plants and food
which are made up of plants. Becoming of vegan is a truly great way which is helpful in
reducing environment impact over the earth and minimises carbon footprints as well. Eating
vegan is helpful in getting improved health benefits which may lead into minimising chances of
various health implications. Besides this being vegan could be dangerous to health as situation of
lack of nutrition may be seen and this would be disadvantageous in long term.
What is the influence of veganism over meat and dairy industry situated in UK?
According to Bryant (2019), Veganism is defined as such practices in which vegetarian
diet is being followed and seafood, meat and dairy products are avoided. This is observed that
vegan diet is providing negative impact over meat and dairy industry as this industry is facing its
negative time. Vegans are not taking any diet including of meat and dairy products and due to
this reason the industry of meat and dairy products are not able to earn higher market prominence
and due to this negative time are associated with the industry. As the business of these industries
are only dependent over people with non-vegan diet and due to adoption of vegan diet people are
not preferring to consume such products which is disadvantageous for this industry. Industry of
meat and dairy is likely to drop as consumption of meat and dairy products are avoided by
concept in which living standard of people is developed in such a way that they try to avoid such

individual. The household are spending lesser income over meat and dairy products as people are
adopting trend of being vegan.
According to Santini, and et. al., (2017), The number of vegan people are increasing in
UK and by this year the number will reach to 132% in overall manner. This is being analysed
that vegan is one of the major trend which is growing in fastest manner and most of the
population prefers to develop habit of veganism due to its positive impact over health and
environment. In the current time being vegan is hitting the sales of animal based milk as well but
at the same time decrease in consumption of dairy milk beverages. In Britain more than 11%
people had ever tried vegan diet which is the major trend which is minimising the meat
consumption. The poultry firms are not having much to put in their business due to which future
of these businesses are associated with huge issues. Vegans are becoming vocal and aggressive
and in this manner own diet as in current time consumers prefer to develop their food as
accordance with their demands and needs. Vegan diet is one of the latest trends which is having
adopted by mass audience in order to develop habits which are not leading to develop any
negative impact over the environment. In this manner this can be said that as the practices and
trends of veganism in increasing the trend of consuming meat products are decreasing. This is
regarded as the bad phase for the industry of meat and dairy due to which these industries are not
dealing with much profits and sales in higher manner.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of vegan trend over environment and society?
According to Twine (2017), when vegan trend is being followed then numerous
advantages and disadvantage are seen for environment and society as well. People with vegan
diet are required to be extra cautious as they are not able to get zinc, calcium, Vitamin D and
many other acid s and minerals. Vegans are facing high risk of Vitamin B12 which is the major
reason to develop several neurological effects that are irreversible in nature. Potential reports say
that vegan and vegetarian diets are leading the way to minimise greenhouse emission. A global
plant based diet is providing reduce mortality and greenhouse gases which are caused due to
food production. When plant based diet is requiring having higher amount of soil which are used
in order to grow soil. Soils are acting as consistently developing crops and releasing greenhouse
gases which are tapped in healthy and soils.
According to Lund, McKeegan, Cribbin and Sandøe (2016), several studies have shown
that vegan diets are providing more fibre, antioxidants and other beneficial plant compounds.

These are also rich in potassium, magnesium, Vitamin A,C and many more. If all people will go
vegan then food related emission will go down to 70% which is a big reason and people are
developing significant reason to attain health benefits. There is no significant aspect which are
fulfilling the need of animal products. These dietary needs which can only be met by mixture of
food and this is helpful in generating health benefits. Besides this it is being analysed that meat
consumption is responsible to release greenhouse gases such as methane, CO2 and nitrous oxide
and these are the gases which are contributing in climate change, global warming and other
negative to eco system. Meat contains various essential elements by which human being can be
developed and promoted in higher manner.
According to Deckha (2020), Society is taking vegan as a positive aspect but at the same
time these are regarded as positive and negative aspects in both. When vegan diets are followed
by mass audience then this will lead to provide positive impact over environment and people as
well. Besides this using vegan diet is something which is helpful in minimising carbon footprints
and negative emission as well. On the contrary this is analysed that adoption of vegan diet is not
such beneficiary for health as not such elements can be taken by the body.
