as a significant source of air pollution. As a result, governments across the world have
implemented and continue to implement stringent policies to control air population
emanating from vehicles. Consequently, two articles that illustrate significant similarities
expound on the issue of controlling air pollution emanating from automobiles and the
challenges it faces. The article by Cavico and Mujtaba (2016) expounds on Volkswagen’s
emission scandal and its consequences. On the other hand, the article by Wu et al. (2011)
assesses the various strategies applied by Beijing to regulate pollution from vehicles. Despite
focusing on two different nations, these two articles provide a vital insight on the problems
facing environmental protection
The article by Cavico and Mujtaba focuses exclusively on the Volkswagen’s emission
scandal that shocked the business world in 2015. In this article, Cavico and Mujtaba major on
two crucial points. Firstly, they focus on the unethical traits of automobile firms in violating
the set environmental protection policies. Secondly, this article elaborates on the
consequences of being a fraudulent and deceptive organisation in the contemporary business
environment. The authors point out that the consequences of such unethical moves are costly

Notably, both articles provide a vital insight into the challenges facing environmental
protection. The article by Cavico and Mujtaba (2016) illustrates how firms can use their
technological superiority to bypass standards set by the government. This article warns
agencies dealing with environmental protection to be vigilant when assessing vehicles
produced by the various manufacturers. However, Cavico and Mujtaba’s article focuses only
on one automobile maker thus lowering its reliability. Besides, the article was written before
a comprehensive analysis of the scandal’s effect was conducted. As such, the article by
Cavico and Mujtaba could have been more reliable if it focused on ethical misconduct by
several companies.
The article by Wu et al. (2011) serves as a useful guide to governments and agencies in their
effects to develop effective air pollution policies. This article gives a detailed explanation of
the various air pollution control strategies implemented by Beijing and their technical
aspects. However, the authors could have included a comparison of the Beijing policies with
those from other regions. This comparison could have assisted the readers in establishing why
Beijing policies have been greatly effective. As such, the writers could have included a more
elaborate comparison of Beijing policies to those in other parts of the world to enhance the
reliability of their conclusions and recommendations.
Nonetheless, these two articles provide a vital insight into the problems facing environmental
protection. Precisely, these articles confirm that the changing attributes of the society such as

economic ability and technology are the greatest challenge to agencies dealing with
environmental protection. As such, it instrumental for policymakers to implement policies
that align with the prevailing developments in the society. Equally, companies are also
warned that they must comply with all the established environmental policies and ethics to
avert losses. In spite of their various scholarly limitations, these two articles play a significant
role in expounding on the sensitive issues of environmental protection and corporate ethics.
