The utilization of words in order to share information spoken to the people is known
as verbal communication. The communication, which is verbally categorized are considered
for choosing words and the manner of interpretation. People working in a business scenario
needs to utilize verbal communication, which can be readily understood and have to be in an
appropriate tone and stress of voice (Quintanilla and Wahl 2018). The effectiveness depends
on clarity, volume, tone of the speech and quality involved in the conversation. The purpose
of the paper is to discuss the importance of different forms of communication in the scenario
of a workplace. The paper tends to argue on the importance of verbal communication in the
workplace.
Verbal communication can be considered as the most crucial form in a workplace
scenario as it gets the content across more effectively than a written or non-verbal
communication. In spite of the growing level of advancement in the organizational setting
with the implementation of technology, the value of verbal communication can be depicted
through the connection building opportunity of the team leaders, managers and employees.
Verbal communication helps in resolving the extent of dispute. It also contributes in
minimizing the complexity of issues in a workplace. Verbal communication helps in proving
clarity in an organizational system (Coffelt, Baker and Corey 2016, pp.305). For instance,
people are believed to retain data and information effectively when they are exposed to the
verbal constituents as well as in a training programme, verbal communication helps in
encouraging communication and responses of the doubts. Verbal communication contributes
to the factor of motivation. For instance, an appreciation from a manager directly
communicated to an employee by the use of words and tone of speech will be more effective
and motivating than an email (Titsworth and Okamoto 2017, pp.6). It helps workers in
understanding the importance of their contribution in a workplace system. Conducting
meeting for having in-person interaction is crucial for building confidence and trust of the
group (Quintanilla and Wahl 2018). Verbal communication helps the team leader/manager in

the process of understanding concerns of the employees by encouraging the flow of verbal
communication. Verbal communication also contributes to the team building exercise in a
workplace.
Another set of contribution, which depicts the importance of verbal communication in
a workplace scenario will be presented in the paper. Verbal communication have the ability
of saving time as when a task is assigned to a team or an individual, communicating the
objectives and important points in words rather than only sending long emails can save time
efficiently. The flow of tasks can be maintained by the encouragement of verbal
communication with the team leader or manager as it will allow free flow of queries and
changes, thereby contributing towards the time management attribute. The words in a verbal
communication reflects distinct meanings and portrays lesser chances of misinterpretation
(Quintanilla and Wahl 2018). This form of communication helps in developing analytical and
reasoning skills as stimuli in case of verbal communication are interpreted through left
hemisphere of the brain. The feedback system in verbal communication can be facilitated
easily than written and non-verbal forms of communication (Ortiz, Region-Sebest and
MacDermott 2016, pp.317). Verbal communication reflects importance in the area of
building and maintaining relationships within employers, employees, stakeholders, customers
and suppliers. An effective flow of verbal communication between the employee and
employer enhances the level of job satisfaction in a workplace. An example depicting the
importance of verbal communication can be meetings (Titsworth and Okamoto 2017, pp.2).
For instance, an own of a business or a team leader needs to conduct meeting in order to
share the company objectives, incorporated changes and assigned tasks to her/his team
members and it can be only facilitated by the use of verbal communication (MacDonald,
Kelly and Christen 2019, pp.31). Meetings helps in addressing concerns as well as in
communicating opportunities. Moreover, verbal communication is important for facilitating

However, non-verbal communication can also be considered as a very important form

data and information with the help of gestures, eye contact, expressions and body language
(Phutela 2015, pp.43). Non-verbal communication helps in the understanding of
disagreement or agreement in a meeting. It helps in building positive and encouraging work
environment through the help of smile and greetings (handshake). Non-verbal
communication portrays the level of interest in an employee. Effective non-verbal skills
develops confidence in employees. Non-verbal communication can also contribute in a
multicultural work situation where employees have different linguistic background
(Bhardwaj and Sharma 2017, pp.60). Non-verbal communication adds credibility in a
persuasive communication. Non-verbal communication helps in constructing the first
impression of an employee. The importance of non-verbal communication can be reflected by
an example of a presentation. In the case of a presentation, non-verbal communication
reflects the level of confidence and authenticity for business proposals. Moreover, non-verbal
communication acts as medium of expressing one-self in an organizational setting (Bonaccio
et al. 2016, pp.1046).
Therefore, it can be concluded from the paper that in spite of the importance of non-
verbal communication in a workplace, verbal communication ensures efficiency and
contributes towards the factor of time management. Verbal communication helps in
eliminating the possibility of misinterpretation and develops clarity. It helps in the process of
sharing views and ideas effectively in front of a group or a team leader. Verbal
communication helps in the implementation of changes by the way of using words/speech in
communicating to a large group of people in an organization. It also helps is understanding
the employee concern and contributes towards motivating employees/team members. It helps
