SUBJECT: VILLAGE GREEN STUDENT RESIDENCE
INTRODUCTION
The Village Green Student Residence was started in 2010, located inside the campus of northern
Ontario University with a potential of accommodating 120 students. It is a safe and secure
community having an access to all the basic amenities. The way dormitory has been kept is
impressive in a lot of ways such as fully furnished rooms with adjoining bathrooms, the common
rooms include big screen TV and stereo. The housekeeping staff takes care of all the daily
cleaning processes. The residence coordinator of the place is Rose George whose responsibilities
include the taking care of fees, registration and social services. Of late the residence is facing the
challenge of keeping its rooms occupied and the running cost of the residence is getting higher.
RECOMMENDATIONS
There are 75 percent of rooms that are currently occupied, so the management wants to attract
more international students. Right now this number is as low as 13.5 percent as they move out to
live in separate apartments or houses. The reasons for their leaving of residence are many such as
they often complain that it the residence is too noisy, slow and expensive internet connections as
well as relatively less number of organized events for them. As the international students are
finding the residence expensive, the management, meanwhile, finding it hard to lower the prices
because of the high cost of running the processes. So the management is required to address
these issues so that they could make the atmosphere conducive for these students. However, the
immigration programs in Canada are inviting more immigrants because of the projected decline
in population growth. These immigrants will then find a number of job opportunities that will be
arising in order to ensure existing operations in the country. Also, the government is planning to
start programs that will help in attracting professional immigrants in small urban centers.
CONTROL AND FEEDBACK
Apart from the resident coordinator, Rose George, there are other officers who are serving in the
residence. Aldo Trabant is Security officer and is responsible for enforcing student code of
conduct and maintaining the safe environment for the residents of the dormitory. Another officer
named Bill Wells is a new Director of Ancillary Operations and Sales who makes major
decisions that sometimes affect the operations of the Village Green residence. After observing
the operations and activities by the management, Bill is now trying to alter the existing
procedures and policies. However, his ways of functioning are not going down well with the rest
of the staff.

CONTINGENCY PLAN
Village Green has some resident advisors as well, who have important responsibilities of taking
care of student needs, planning events and putting things in place. They do this with the help of
log sheets and submitting to Rose. They are given an access to $2000 per year budget that is used
for planning events for the students. These events include live concerts, comedy performances
and other entertainments and are needed to be approved by Rose, Aldo and Bill because these
require large fee to organize.
