ASSESSMENT 1A Understanding project management
Project Topic
The main title of the project that has been selected is “Education”.
Project title
The main title of this project is to develop awareness among nurses in order to deal with
crises situation by providing them with violence management and prevention education at their
workplace.
Project problem
Nurses in health and social care industry plays a vital role in health and social care
industry. However, according to a research it has been observed that more than 90 percent nurses
in health and social care industry experiences lateral violence (Kumar and et al., 2016). This is
mainly because of organizational, psychological and physical consequences. Almost all the
hospitals in Australia spend more than 15 percent on violence management and increasing
prevention within hospital premises. If violence management is focused on then it has been
observed that it is required to focus on violence management for hospital nurses as they are the
one who face sexual harassment, verbal or physical abuse mostly by patients and many more.
Consequences of these are quite severe because of which most of the nurses suffer mental
trauma, fear and many more. According to a research most of the nurses try to fulfil their duties
towards their patients and try to provide them with excellent services but many times those
patients abuse those nurses, show violence to the nurses and even threaten them to risk their lives
as well (Myers and et al., 2016). This is one of the main reasons because of which many nurses
back out from their duties and do not want to put their life on risk and focus on choosing a
different path in order to recover from mental trauma.
Project solution
It is extremely important to focus on this issue and ensure that best quality service is
being provided by the nurses without suffering any kind of violence, sexual harassment, verbal
abuse and many more. One of the best ways to provide excellent service to the patients without
any kind of violence is by providing education to the nurses and enhancing their overall
knowledge (Kosny and et al., 2018). This education should not only be provided to the nurses
but indirectly this education should be provided to the patients as well. Directly nurses should be
provided with violence management and prevention education and training to the nurses. So that

they can handle any kind of severe conditions and can deal with those conditions in a better
manner. Nurses should also be provided education of dealing with such patients and make them
realize about their mistakes and where they are wrong. Hospitals can focus on providing a
physical working environment and time to time training, risk finding assessment techniques to
the nurses as well so that they can understand what kind of risk are associated with the patients
and how they need to deal with it (Ramesh and et al., 2018). Hospitals should also focus on
creating a quality culture as it will help them to bring improvement within violence situations
faced by nurses within hospital.
Project management questions
There are two most important questions that are related to this project, that are:
Question 1: Who are the main people who should be involved in violence education
development project and what kind of information should be focused on?
Question 2: Who are the main stakeholders who should be involved in this project and what
role those stakeholders will be having in this project?
Discussions and response
Response to question 1: Who should be involved in violence education development project and
what kind of information should be focused on?
The main people who should be involved in this Violence education development project
are the nurses who provide quality service to the patients. Nurses are the one who interact with
the patients most often, they are the one who frequently medicines and other necessary facilities
to the patients and take care of them (Sun, and et al., 2017). Patient’s inappropriate behaviour or
violent behaviour directly affect nurses, their mental state or simply it can be said that they are
the one who get affected mostly. Other than the nurses, doctors should also be involved in this
violent management education project other than nurses of the hospitals this is mainly because
doctors who provide main treatment to the patients, participation of doctors in this project can
help the hospital to educate their patients and made them understand what kind of behaviour is
appropriate and what kind of behaviour is inappropriate in fact doctors can also make their
patient realize that what kind of behaviour will not be tolerated within the hospital premises. It is
important to involve hospital doctors in the project as they will provide a support the nurses of
the hospital and will also help nurses to understand strategies or tactics that can be used by them
to tackle difficult situation (Van Den Bos and et al., 2017). Information which is required to be

focused on for this project are: different types and categories of patients that get admitted within
the hospital, this will help the hospital to understand what type or category of patients they need
to focus on, conduct an interview and analyse what are the main scenarios or conditions in which
violence situation is faced by the nurses. Hospital is also required to gather information about
current violence management of the hospital i.e. what kind of actions are taken by hospital
management staff if any kind of violence or inappropriate behaviour case is reported to them
(Al-Azzam and et al., 2017). This information will help then to understand loopholes within their
current management and what kind of actions are required to be taken by the hospital
management staff in order to tackle with this situation.
Response to question 2: Who are the main stakeholders who should be involved in this project
and what role those stakeholders will be having in this project?
Main stakeholders who should be involved within this violence education development
project are: healthcare practitioners, patients, nurses and top management staff. Each of the
stakeholders involved within the project will be having their own roles and responsibilities.
Roles of the stakeholders within the project are as follows:
Health practitioners: Main role of healthcare practitioners within this project is to tackle their
patients and make them understand rules and regulations of their hospital to their patients so that
they can understand what kind of behaviour is appropriate and what kind of behaviour is not
appropriate (Marshall, Craig and Meyer, 2017).
Patients: Main role of patients in this project is to exercise patience and control their violent
behaviour.
Nurses: Main role of nurses is to participate in violence education project so that they can learn
tactics to deal with violent patients and apply that education within their nursing practise.
Management staff: management staff is required to provide all kinds of resources that are
required for violence education project so that all kinds of barriers in educating the nurses can be
reduced.

Project background
Nurses are one of the mot important part of health and social care organizations. It is
important to focus on safety and security of their hospital nurses as well as should also focus on
fulfilling their needs and requirements in an appropriate manner. It is important for hospitals to
focus in needs and requirements of the nurses so that if any kind of issue or problem is being
faced by the nurses then it can be identified in an appropriate manner (Wei and et al., 2016).
According to a research most of the time any kind of issue faced by nurses is mostly because of
the patients of the hospitals. Violent behaviour of patients towards the nurses affect nurses in
many ways it increases their mental and psychological stress level as well and if this violent
behaviour of patients is not controlled then it can divert nurses from their duties of providing
care to the patients. Nurses of any hospitals are provided with such a training that they provide
excellent and quality service to their patients but many times they are not trained to tackle with
critical situations because of which they feel depressed and get diverted from their work.
Hospitals are required to focus on behaviour of patients towards the nurses or problems
faced by the nurses because of inappropriate and violent behaviour of the patients towards them
(Acquadro Maran and et al., 2018). According to a research every year more than 15 percent of
nurses has opted another career as their profession and has left their nursing career on order to
overcome the mental stress they go through because of the patients. It is important for hospitals
to focus on resolving this issue faced by the nurses of the hospitals. Hospital management staff is
required to take struct action against these issues and need to focus on struct strategies through
which they can develop a quality working culture, provide education to the nurses so that they
can tackle with such conditions. These strategies or initiatives taken by the hospitals will also
help them to make their patients realise kind of behaviour which is appropriate and will also
helps in developing control and patience within them.
Project problem Statement
It is extremely important for hospital management staff to maintain workplace
environment and reduce any kind of violence, harassment chances within the hospital
premises.in order to do so it is important for hospital management to look into violence issue
which is being faced by the nurses of the hospital by patients (Aivazi and et al., 2017).

Project goal
The main goal of this project is to provide violence management and precaution
education to the nurses through violence management project so that a quality workplace
environment can be developed and nurses can learn tactics through which they can deal with
such crisis’s situations in an effective manner.
Project Objectives
There are three main objectives of this project that are required to be focused on and
achieved. These objectives will help the hospital to reduce number of violence cases reported or
suffered by nurses. Achievement of these objectives will also help in enhancing overall
organizational culture of the hospital in a much better and enhanced manner. Three main
objectives are as follows:
To provide training and educate nurses about violence management within 1-month duration.
To reduce violence cases within Hospital by at least 25 percent within the duration of 6
months.
To implement strategies in order to enhance overall quality of workplace within the hospital
premises within 8 months’ time period.
Project outputs or deliverables
In order to meet all the outcomes, it is important for the hospital management staff to
analyse what kind of critical issues are being faced by the nurses and what effect those issues or
problems have on them. This analysis will help the hospital management staff to take appropriate
and measurable measures. Main deliverables of this project are as follows:
Provision of violence management training and education to nurses.
Provision of additional facilities and privileges to nurses in order to boost their morale and
they can work more delicately.
