INTRODUCTION
Violent crime is one of serious concern of safety of society which is overreported and over
representation like homicide, robbery, kidnapping, sexual assault, etc. (Zimring, 2018). The essay will
be focusing on violent crime which can be a source of social concern and is occurring frequently which is
a barrier to safety of Australian society.
MAIN BODY
Violent crime is source of concern for communities as it indicates aggressive acts of people. These
type of misconducts in community are specifically related to homicides which is a source of concern as it
signifies threat to human life (Payne, 2018). As per Australian institute of Criminology it can be said
that violent crime by media is not supported by statistic where crime rate has been increasing
tremendously in few years with substantial increase in victims of crime (Dssetor, 2010). Violent crime is
reason of concern but also increasing because it is specifically related with gender inequality and
domestic violence.
The increasing level of concern in Australia due to increase in Violent crime. In accordance with
study it has been evaluated that rate of homicide is high in large cities in comparison to small towns.
According to MacLeod, 2019, majority of violent crime are committed by men and not women but also
two third of victims are men that is 67.3 %. The study discussed about domestic violence which is mainly
faced by Women by their intimate partners which raise the question of safety of women at home.
The major cause of increasing violent crime is focus of media and society towards victims instead of
perpetrator. Therefore, it is important for the society to act responsible for controlling violent crime where
the individuals can raise voice against the perpetrator. For example, 36-year-old man was charged by
police for murder of 36-year-old woman instead of 36-year-old woman was murdered for which 38-year-
old man has been charged (Advisory Guideline on Family and Domestic Violence Reporting, 2018). Apart
from this, Roberts, 2018, argued that regardless of cruelty of violent crime it is increasing because of
misrepresentation of information from different sources which encourage aggressive behaviour of people.
Media sources like web series, new channels and televisions shows seek for content which is news worthy
regardless of unethical concerns which created massive impact on minds of vulnerable people of society.
Presentation of crime related information and content is major cause behind increasing violent crime
which is barrier to safety of society (Smith, 2018).
Increasing aggressive nature of vulnerable individual of Australian society is source of concern
because the action of crime is life threatening and also impacts mental stability of suffering communities
(Johnston, 2018). In accordance with Australian press council family violence is serious public concern
and is increasing because it lacks intervention of criminal laws and police. With increase in domestic

violence there has been dramatic shift in approach of Australian society where, people are becoming
aware about unacceptability of practice and enforced law to manage individual safety (Advisory Guideline
on Family and Domestic Violence Reporting, 2018).
Further, aggressive behaviours of people are source of concern because it hinders safety of
communities and still it is increasing because of substance abuse. As per crime statistics Australia, it is
outlined that the proportion of prisoner who attributed methamphetamine shown increase in their violent
offenses which increased from 12 to 22 % between 2012 and 2016. The percentage of people who
attributed the violent offence to their use of alcohol decreased, from 30 to 19 %. Also, the study outlined
that money was the reasons why prisoner was involved in violent crime (DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE
AND OFFENDING, 2019). Abuse of substance requires money and when the people gets addicted to
certain habit the individual loses the control over ethical conduct. Lack of judgement ability over right
and wrong encourage people to involve in violent crime which leads to hazardous situation of society as
well as for perpetrator (Weisburd, 2018). Thus, from the discussion it can be said that violent crime is
based on aggressive behaviours of people which is encouraged by certain activities like mis leaded
information, substance abuse or lining in uncertain conditions.
CONCLUSION
The essay summarized about increasing violent crime which is serious cause of concern of
society but still increasing frequently because of various reasons like, gender disparity, media, influence,
substance abuse and domestic violence. The study concluded with different example which presented
clear view over reason behind increasing aggressive misconducts regardless of safety of communities.
