AI Summary
This report presents a case study on cloud computing and virtualization for Webb Store. It begins by describing the key concepts of cloud computing and its potential benefits for the company, followed by an analysis of how Webb Store could leverage AWS or Azure to integrate new regional stores. The report then explores various cloud architectures suitable for this integration. The study further examines Software as a Service (SaaS) options, outlining their advantages, disadvantages, and recommending a specific SaaS service. Finally, the report delves into Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) approaches for migrating Webb Store's database to the cloud, providing a comparative analysis of the two approaches and recommending the most suitable strategy based on the company's existing infrastructure and requirements, including security considerations like authentication and encryption. The report concludes by emphasizing the benefits of PaaS for Webb Store, especially considering their use of MS SQL server 2012 R2 database and the suitability of Microsoft Azure as a cloud solution.

VIRTUALIZATION AND CLOUD COMPUTING
Question 3:
i.) An IaaS approach to migrating Webb’s database to the cloud
In the recent year, there are number of technologies that have emerged and it is
identified that the technologies are also improving on a daily basis. The technology of cloud
computing is considered as one of the breakthrough in the current scenario. Hence, there are
number of options for the organizations for moving from database to cloud solution
(Chandramouli, Iorga & Chokhani, 2014). The organization “Webb Store” has three data
centre which are located in Brisbane, Melbourne as well as Sydney and the organization
mainly utilizes 2012 r2 database in order to manage various types of confidential data as well
as information (Gupta et al., 2016). However, the organization is facing number of challenges
for utilizing this application. In order to resolve the challenges the organization wants to
migrate from general to IaaS solution. It is identified that the IaaS solution is able to provide
proper flexibility as well as scalability. Due to the utilization of IaaS infrastructure, the
organization does not need implementation of proper database centre and they can have the
facility of accessing the database from different locations. The migration of database to IaaS
infrastructure helps in providing number of advantages to the organization, which include:
Cost saving: The migration of database to IaaS infrastructure is quite beneficial for
Webb Store as the model is helpful in lowering the infrastructure cost (Kalloniatis et al.,
2014). The organization does not have the responsibility to ensure uptime as well as maintain
hardware as well as networking equipment.
Scalability and flexibility: One of the most significant benefits of IaaS is to scale up
as well as down quickly in response to the requirement of the organization. IaaS providers
assist in providing powerful storage, servers as well as networking technologies for
accommodating the requirement of the customers.

Faster time to market: It is identified that competition is quite significant in each
sector and time to market is considered as one of the important way for beating the
competition (Furuncu &Sogukpinar, 2015). As the infrastructure of IaaS helps in providing
elasticity, scalability, the organization can complete their operations quite rapidly.
Business Growth: By migrating from database to IaaS infrastructure, the
organization “Webb Store” can be able to focus on both time as well as resources in order to
develop innovations in context to various solutions as well as applications (Bhoyar &
Chopde, 2013).
ii) A PaaS approach to migrating Webb’s database to the cloud
The organization Webb Store database can also utilize the approach to migrate the
database of to PaaS infrastructure. It is found that Microsoft Azure is one of the significant
providers of PaaS service to the organization. The PaaS helps in providing the needed
platform so that database can be implemented properly on the web servers. The platform also
helps in allowing the organization to build proper web application that would be quite
beneficial for storing data as well as information in the data canter of Microsoft (Alhamazani
et al., 2015). The platform is helpful in allowing storing both data as well as information on
the servers properly. It is identified that PaaS service provider is quite cost effective in
comparison to different other service provider. Therefore, the organizations who are utilizing
the PaaS cloud platform are capable of saving more than fifty per cent of operational saving
(Grozev & Buyya, 2014). The various types of technology stacks can be managed with the
help of project team. It is found that the entire capital expenditure must be reduced with the
help of various types of database elements that include network components, storage as well
as server. The utilization of this platform would make the utilization of various applications
scalable as well as flexible (Anselmi, Ardagna & Passacantando, 2014). This is also helps in

creating virtual machine on the cloud for enabling application development. The benefits that
the organization will achieve by utilizing the approach of PaaS include:
Network Bandwidth: It is identified that both the deployment as well as
development procedure can be create strain on the network bandwidth of the data canter but
with the utilization of PaaS, testing can be performed within the cloud.
Careless mistake: With the migration of PaaS, the organization would be able to
minimize various types of careless mistakes or could be able to eliminate (Pahl &Xiong,
2013).
Software maintenance: The cost that is associated with managing software updates
as well as changes helps in creating a burden on the operation as well as development of
organization. Therefore, with the utilization of PaaS, the organization needs to pay a monthly
charge and the entire cost is generally offset by reducing software license cost.

The Webb Store organization does can be
able to hire the hardware from the cloud
service provider instead of purchasing.
It is helpful in providing proper scalability as
well as agility to the organizations (Manuel,
2015).
It helps in supporting BC, DR and also assists
in providing high availability to the
enterprises
It mainly focuses on the growth of the
organization
Very much less focus is needed on the
infrastructure
There is no need to buy any type of external
infrastructure
The platform is quite easy to scale up and
down
The organizations that are utilizing this
approach do not have made extra payments
(Manvi & Shyam, 2014).
Disadvantages
It is identified that the services of IaaS is very
much expensive as compared to other
services (Selvam & Kannan, 2015).
The customer is generally have the
responsibility for system backup
For all the different aspects of virtual
machine, the customers are generally
responsible (Toosi, Calheiros & Buyya,
2014).
The control on the platform is mainly
dependent on the provider of cloud
the task of the management can become
tiresome due to the utilization of PaaS
services
The PaaS is very much costly as compared to
other services (Zhang et al., 2015).
The PaaS does not help in providing proper
control on the data processing.

They does not have control over the location
of virtual machine as well as servers
iv). What is the approach that you would recommend and give your reasons for
recommending this approach?
PaaS is the approach that will be best suited for the organization. It is identified that
the company already utilizes MS SQL server 2012 R2 database hence Microsoft Windows
Azure is considered as the most appropriate cloud selection.
Authentication: Proper authentication is needed in the system, as unauthorized users
are not able to access information as well as data (Pfaff & Ries, 2014).
Encryption: Proper encryption is needed in order to make both the server as well as
information transmission channel secure from various external attackers.
