Vishal Farm Shop Application: Interface Design, Heuristics & Analysis

This report details the interface design for the Vishal Farm Shop application, created using Balsamiq. The application aims to provide users with functionalities such as browsing and purchasing items from categories like gifts, drinks, and food, as well as restaurant booking. The design process involved creating two initial solutions, selecting the best one based on Jakob Nielsen's heuristic principles, developing the interface, and gathering feedback from other users. The final design was refined based on this feedback, with considerations for user requirements, business needs, and design principles. A comparison with a similar application, FARMSHOPCA, is also included, along with references and appendices illustrating the application's interface.

Abstract
The application designed in this assignment named as Vishal Farm Shop. The aim of the
application is to give various functionalities to customer. The features like user can select
different items from the application. The categories of items are gifts, drinks, and food. The
application also provides feature of restaurant booking. For the assignment, the wireframes for
application Vishal Farm Shop are designed using the tool Balsamiq. For completing the
assignment, the assignment is distributed into four sections. The first section is to design the two
solutions for the application. The second section describes choosing the best design among two
designs. When design has selected the development of interface design started and
documentation is created for that. The third section includes collecting the feedbacks from other
random group members. The fourth section describes that the interface design is analyzed
according to feedback and if feedback is appropriate then work on feedback. And the ending
design is made after improving from feedback. Application’s interface can be improved in
future.
Introduction
The objective of application is to provide various functionalities to its user. The features like user
can select different items from the application. The categories of items are gifts, wine, and food.
The application also provides feature of restaurant booking. Apart from that, the other functions
of application are that there is an option on each screen which contains option like update profile
button. The user can use this option for his convenience and use these options. For starting using
application customer need to first open the application and sign-in the application. If the user is
not existing user he needs to first sign-up in the application (Browne, 2016).
For developing the interface design for the application, the Balsamiq tool is used. Design follows
Jakob Nielsen heuristic model. The created design is based on 10 principles i.e. system status’s
visibility, User freedom, match and control, between system and real life, help user recognize,
diagnose and diagnose errors, error prevention, consistency and standards, flexibility and
efficiency of use, recognition rather than recall, help documentation and aesthetic and minimalist
design.
There is option of special offers in the application Vishal Farm Shop. The special offer gives
information about special offers offered by the farm shop. There is also a function that user can
track the order status after placing the order (Dudley & Kristensson, 2018).

User interface design
The objective of the application is to make available excellent features to its users. The
application offers different functions like user can do reservation according to his convenience.
User can see the facilities of restaurant and after that can-do reservation. The user can also
purchase items like food, wines or gift items. The user can do payment and after successful order
placed the user can track his order accordingly.
The interface design of application uses Jakob Nielsen heuristic principle model. The design is
very stunning and implements al the heuristic principles in its design (Morse, 2016).
User requirement
Application is fully developed on the basis of user requirement. The entire user requirement is
covered in this application. All the features are displayed such that a new user or existing user
can easily use the application. User can easily navigate through whole application. There is also
an option of update profile option in which user can update his details if he wishes to. The Vishal
Farm Shop provides security features also like without signing the user cannot use the
application. The background color keeps simple so that all the features display clearly to user and
he doesn’t get confused to use the application Vishal Farm Shop (web architecture, 2016).
Justification for designing
The design is kept simple so that all the features display to user clearly. The font color is used
black so that on white background color the font is properly displayed. The application provides
all the features which any farm shop should offer. Features include user can do reservation or can
purchase items like wines, food or gift items. The application contains exciting features. Features
like user can track his order after successful order placement. The design follows the standard of
Jakob Nielsen heuristic model. An option like log out option on screen facilitates user to exit
from application whenever he wants to exit. The application allows only the users which have
an account in application. To use the application a new user, need to make an account on
application Vishal Farm Shop (Vance, Lowry & Eggett, 2015).
Factors for application designing
For creating the application, factors undertaken are business, user requirements. The design
principles used for creating the interface design are Jakob Nielsen heuristic model. For interface
design, user requirement is to use appropriate background color, proper font size and the labels
and buttons are properly aligned. The other user requirement is that the design should be simple
such that a new user can also use the application. There is also a feedback section in which user
can post their queries and feedback. The design for application is based on ten principles that are
visibility of system status, User freedom, and control, match between system and real world,
support user recognize, diagnose and diagnose from errors, error prevention, consistency and

standards, flexibility and efficiency of use, recognition rather than recall, support documentation
and visual and minimalist design (Nielsen, 1995).
Discussion of similar type application Vishal Farm Shop
The application offers different functions like user can do reservation according to his
convenience. User can see the facilities of restaurant and after that can-do reservation. The user
can also purchase items like food, wines or gift items. The description option is also present in
which user can read the description of product and according to details provided by the
application customer can buy the product. An acknowledge message functionality is also
amended in the application in which when user login or signup in application an acknowledge
message is displayed which displays a message that user has successful sign in or sign up.
FARMSHOPCA application
The FARMSHOPCA application is same kind of application as Vishal Farm Shop application is.
The FARMSHOPCA application provides the similar features like user has to first log in or
signup to use the services of FAARMSHOPCA application. The application offers food items,
gift cards, and wines. User can also book the reservation. A search bar is also present in which
user can search his desired product.

Conclusion
The report for Vishal Farm Shop application is successfully created. The report contains a brief reflection
of designing the interface design for Vishal Farm Shop application. A similar kind of farm shop
application is discussed named as FARMSHOPCA. The report discussed the business requirements. The
report also discussed the user requirements. The report also provides information about Jakob Nielsen
heuristic model.
