1. Problem
Daniel Cox and Jack Greig had been working as suppliers in an auto parts business in
Australia. It is being observed that the present warehouse management system does not have
the ability of handling high dynamic processes, which could help in moving or storing
inventories at low expenses and high efficiency (Atieh et al., 2016). For this purpose, Daniel
Cox and Jack Greig have taken the decision of developing a completely new auto parts
warehouse management system, in which the functions could be effectively applied in the
core processes of warehouse and that has capability to transform the entire warehouse into
competitive advantages. They want the new warehouse management system to have
distinctive functions and would be providing some of the most significant operations for the
business.
2. Capabilities
The new auto parts warehouse management system would be comprising of some of
the major and the most distinctive capabilities. Daniel Cox and Jack Greig are expecting the
new system to perform several functionalities. The first and the foremost capability is
controlling inventories (Ding, 2013). It is the procedure to ensure that only correct amount of
stock is being maintained by the respective business and hence having the core capability of
meeting customer’s demands without any type of delays, during preservation of the expenses
that are solely associated with the holding stocks to the lowest. The second distinct capability
of this auto parts warehouse management system is receiving each and every kind of order.
Since they are dealing with auto parts, it is extremely important for them to receive orders.
With the variety of orders, they would be able to expand their business majorly.
Another significant capability of the warehouse management system is processing of
orders. It is needed for better understanding as well as processing of the orders (Faber, De

Koster & Smidts, 2013). It would help in effective picking up of the orders, so that Daniel
Cox and Jack Greig are able to process these orders so that production is increased with lower
costs. Order load management and making of crystal reports are the next vital capability of
the new auto parts warehouse management system. Moreover, this particular management
system would also be able to provide outbound documentation, so that they are able to create
and rate the bills of ladings. The auto parts warehouse management system would even
provide system alerts, so that the management is able to get updates regarding less stock or
any other issue related to the business operations. Moreover, the next capability of the auto
parts warehouse management system would be that the system would function for packing of
orders (Chen et al., 2013). There would be several wireless communication devices such as
Wi Fi, GPS and 4G networks for providing information or transmitting the functions into air
with an electromagnetic wave. These communication devices would help to configure with
their proposed warehouse management system, so that they are able to run the distribution
centre with real time operation.
3. Benefits
There would be some of the major and the most significant advantages of this auto
parts warehouse management system and these are as follows:
i) Optimized Processes: The first and the foremost advantage of the new auto parts
warehouse management system is that it would be allow optimized processes. An effective
warehouse management system requires to be extremely versatile on the input methods,
RFID, tackling of barcodes and even working in collaboration with automaton of equipment.
ii) Efficient Allocation of Labour: The second important benefit of this new auto
parts warehouse management system is that it would provide efficient allocation of labours
(Richards, 2017). Collaboration would work to a high level if they would be implementing

this particular system. The on the floor tasks would be demonstrated in the most efficient and
logical method.
iii) Employee Morale: Daniel Cox and Jack Greig would even be able to improve
employee morale and a proper structure would be gained without much complexity. The
employees would know what they require from work.
iv) Improved Customer and Supplier Relationship: The relationship between
supplier and customer would be improved and hence there would be lesser errors in order
accuracy and delivery lead times (Battini, Persona & Sgarbossa, 2014). The customers would
be highly satisfied with the orders.
v) Reduced Operational Costs: The total operational costs would be reduced since
there would be an effective utilization of labour and space.
vi) Better Balance of Inventory: The new auto parts WMS would be able to maintain
a better balance of the inventory and there would be a safety stock.
