Visual Learning Styles: Practical Application and Benefits in Nursing

The test above shown that I am a visual learner. There are many benefits for me as excellent
memory skills and observation, great memory, strong imagination. As visual learner I can read
maps and graphs quickly and easily engage with computers and the internet. Also visual learners
can easily see the bigger picture as they have a perspective to how things look. Set open ended
tasks and project allow me to problem solve and developing my creativity. In my nursing
practice is very beneficial visual learning technique to think about how to teach the human
anatomy. Students can see pictures of each of the individual organs, then video how each of the
organs work. Finally, I can show how all organs work together in a visual presentation. The test
above also shown nine answers “C” and this means I can combining visual and kinesthetic
learning. By allowing the body and mind to work together, I can find solution from all angles.
As Visual learning style can be improved by depending upon charts, figures and
illustrations rather than just words while trying to learn something. I as a visual learner see things
differently from verbal learners. I would prefer asking for a demonstration, through which I will
get to understand the complete process of doing something.
Having the printed reference material in hand before the verbal lecture would make it
better for visual learners like me to understand the concept, and making notes with colours
incorporated and symbols included. It can help in remembering the part for longer period of time
as colours are what wakes me up and motivates me to concentrate as well as through this method
recalling the subject is hundred times easier for me.
Marking outlines helps me in improvement as outlines have a lot of things like bullet
points, chapter headings, sub-headings etc. It also leaving good amount of plane spaces in the
written material gives me a lot of motivation to concentrate more on thinking and understanding
as too much information in less space is not a visual learner's thing. Incorporating video clips and
attractive images draws my attention more than anything else as I feel interested in learning
through images and videos more keenly.
Taking part in creative, colourful events and activities like art exhibitions, painting,
visiting gardens more often helps in calming and soothing my concentration. It assists in increase
my learning capability and productivity and the last most important thing is to have concept
maps ready for all the chapters.
