Product Description
The product is a type of packaged drinking water, available in delicious, fruity
flavours which are attractive for children, along with fortification of various essential
vitamins and minerals. The product packaging comes in the form of small, round bottles,
meant for easy grip and hold for young, school-ground children, with each product serving a
size of 296 ml of flavoured water. The flavoured water is prepared completely free from
added sugars, and provides zero macronutrients such as carbohydrates, sugars, fats, proteins
and calories. However, the flavoured water is fortified with essential Vitamins C, B3, B5 and
B6, providing 10%, 25%, 25% and 25% of the required daily intakes respectively. The
product is sweetened with the help of a natural, plant-based sugar substitute, such as Stevia.
The significance of the product lies in the promotion of consuming healthy beverages
such as water, amongst children, for the purpose of prevention of childhood obesity.
According to the Ministry of Health, around 12% of the children population in New Zealand
are obesity. The major factors behind such conditions is the excessive consumption of
beverages containing large amounts of added sugar, resulting in increased calorie
consumption and obesity. Despite the convenience and attractive flavour, such beverages are
also devoid of essential vitamins and minerals required for the growth of a child (Hardy et al.,
2018).
For this reason, this flavoured water has been prepared from natural fruit and berry
extracts, without any added sugar. Stevia, a natural sweetening herb free from calories
(Sharma et al., 2016), has been used to sweeten this beverage. It has been fortified with
Vitamins C, B3, B5 and B6. Vitamin C is required for the purpose of enhancing a child’s
immune system, strengthening of gums and teeth, aid in the healing of wounds and repair of

blood vessels (Garcia-Viguera & Moreno, 2014). Vitamin B3 is essential to maintain heathy
skin, digestion and nervous system in kids, along with production of required energy from
fats. Vitamin B5 is required for the healthy maintenance of a child’s red blood cells. Lastly,
Vitamin B6 is required for the healthy enhancement of nervous system and brain functioning
in children (McGarel et al., 2015).
Despite the beneficial health outcomes, the flavoured water is devoid of Vitamin A
which is essential for the development of healthy eyesight in children. It is also devoid of
proteins required for growth of muscles, carbohydrates required for energy supply for the
purpose of undertaking various activities by children as well as fats, required for lubrication
of joints and healthy nerve cell functioning (Chen, Michalak & Angellon, 2018).
