Report
AI Summary
This report details an evaluation of drills designed to improve an overarm volleyball serve. The author identifies a weakness in their serve (lack of stepping) and analyzes three drills: ball toss and landing area, ball hitting over the net, and closer body ball toss. Each drill is evaluated for its effectiveness in improving serve technique and placement. The report then justifies the 'ball hitting over the net' drill as the most suitable, aligning it with biomechanical principles and the cognitive, associative, and autonomous stages of learning. A self-reflection section evaluates the author's progress using the drills over four weeks, highlighting improvements in body positioning, footwork, and power. Finally, the report concludes that regular practice of these drills is crucial for accurate and powerful serves.

INTRODUCTION
Volleyball is having huge popularity in UK and it helps in growth of the player mainly to
the teenage. In this age, teenagers are having a huge need of the growth by the help of these
types of games to improve their growth height (Hasker, 2010). This assignment is based on the
training of volleyball and drill for serving ball to the players. According to the videotaped, an
error is identified at the time of serving volleyball is that he is not stepping when he has to
contact to the volleyball. This report will evaluate the drills to make a better over arm service of
the ball.
2. TASK
Evaluation of drills to improve overarm serve
Most of the young players are having huge problem during over arm ball service so it is
essential for the coach to make focus on young players to make a better position to make a better
placement of the ball on the selected target area. According to the video, I have to make a better
positioning in to ball service. To rectify the problem in the ball serve, three main drills are used,
an evaluation is given under here on drills which is used to improve the ball service skill;
Ball toss and landing area; In this drill, player has to toss ball and they have to focus on it and
see where it lands. It helps me to take an experience of ball toss and as well as it supports to me
to how much power has to putted by me in to ball throw in air to make a better service (Claver
Rabaz and et. al., 2013). Also it helps the player to analyse where the ball lands as it helped to
make a better foot step and jump according to the landing place.
Ball hitting over the net: It is a kind of practice in which player has practice regarding serving
the ball. They have to make a better service by taking regular practices. This drill helps the me to
make a regular practice of the ball service so it can improve my service. But it has a negative
aspect also, that I can lose my original techniques and I can get irritated by it. So it is essential

for the coach to take multiple sessions to manage interest of the player in it. But it will surely
help the player to make a better position to in the ball service.
Closer body ball toss: It helps to me to make better placement of the ball in those particular area
where I want to through ball. Over arm body moves are having a huge need of the control to
make a focus on the delivery. Closer body ball toss gives a better grip on the cover area for
player and it provides a more power in the shot.
Justification for the best suitable to learning over arm ball service
Ball hitting over the net is a better improvement drill as it helps to me to improve play
skill and it makes a better position during the over arm serve. According to the sixth
biomechanical principle angular motion, higher power can be generated by the player from
taking an equivalent and sufficient distance from the right place of axis. It can help in effectively
placing the ball in opposite team (González-Ravé, Arija and Clemente-Suarez, 2011). According
to the seventh principle, when a player jump in the air to make a service and hit a ball in the air,
this drill can make an improvements in this and make a better placement of the ball in the
particular area where they want to hit the ball.
This drill can be justified with the stages of learning which are given under here;
Cognitive stage: In this stage, I learned the basic technique to play and make a right shot and hit
the ball. In this stage, I don't have their suitable feet position in which they can hit in better way
on the volleyball (JoãTo and et. al., 2010). This drill can help these types of learners to make a
better position in the over arm volleyball service and also it can help the players to make a better
placement of the ball in the opposite team. As taken on me it has helped me a lot to make a better
position of arm to hit ball.
Associative stage: In this stage, players have knowledge of the game and they know where they
are having a need of the improvement. So in this stage, I know where I have need to improve my
game which can help to make a better performance. Now I have an experience of the game
which helps me to make a better game. So regular practice by this drill can help me to improve
my play and my position during the over arm ball serve (Borràs and et. al., 2011). Also it gives
an experience to player to make a better service in a particular area.
Autonomous stage: This is the final stage in which a player learns all the basic skills to perform
in the game and in this stage player perform without taking any type of help. Developments
needs are lesser and errors in the body moves are lesser as compare to the previous stage so it

can help the player to perform effectively. So this drill supports me to be an experienced player
and self evaluation to make a better over arm ball serve through the net.
3. Roles and Relationships
Self reflection
These all drills are implemented on me in the last 4 weeks, it helped me a lot in
performing better in the game. It is essential for me to take a drill for the practice of the over arm
ball service. Over arm ball service can be loose focus so practice is essential to adjust the body
movements, foot movements, jump and ball hit, it also helped me to analyse where a ball lands
when I toss it in the air. So it was an essential task for me to take practice session to make better
body movements in the over body arm service. It can lose the control on the hand and regular
practice has a make hands stronger and as well as it has impacted on the power shot during the
jump. Ball toss and landing area helped me a lot average effort in the boll toss which can help me
to make a better shot and as well as it assisted me to identify the time taken to be able to make
proper shot . It is essential for the player to make a better position with the jump and analyse the
right time to hit on the ball to place it. Four weeks time duration is sufficient to make a better
placement of ball also it helps to me to make a better placements of the ball and it also gave me
muscle memory which helps to make a better ball service in different targeted areas. So now I
am having less need for improvement as through the training I am able to make perfect service. It
is essential for to me to make my proper focus on the game which can help to me to make a
better development in the over arm service. I have to make my focus on the loose points which
can help to me to make a better placements and ball service. Focus in the foot stepping while
jump and through can help me to reduce the penalties and fouls which can help me to make a
better support to my team in the game.
Evaluation of over arm serve
Body moves are main part so it essential for me to focus on body movement to serve the
ball. I have to make a better foot position and body angles to make a perfect service in the
targeted area. I have to focus on my foot work during the jump because it is having huge
chances to get in the line. Further, I have to focus on time and I have to make a better service by
taking proper focus. A perfect hit needs a perfect body position during the over arm shot length
between the feet has to be equal to the shoulder width where I am having a chance to make some

improvements. Ball has to be lifted in to the air which has to be just 18-36 inches so I have to
make my focus on it. Some time I have put in more in the air so these are some of the loose
points which I have to develop . Over arm delivery has to be nearer to the body so it can help to
me to make a better body and hand position.
CONCLUSION
The above detailed report concludes about the volleyball practices and drills which can help
in development of player. Regular practice can help the player to make a better over arm service
so it is essential to take regular sessions of these types of drills which can help them to accurately
hit in the target area.
