This coursework report critically evaluates the techniques employed by a practitioner during an intervention session with a vulnerable client, Lucy, who is experiencing symptoms of depression. The report identifies and analyzes both appropriate and inappropriate techniques used during the interview, such as the types of questions asked and the practitioner's demeanor. It references psychological theories, including psychological treatment, humanist approaches, and psychodynamic theory, to support its evaluation. Furthermore, the report suggests improvements to the practitioner's approach, such as the use of cognitive behavior therapy, to enhance the effectiveness of the intervention and improve the client's well-being. INTRODUCTION
Depression is an mood disorder that is caused to an individual that resulted in feeling of
sadness, anger or feeling of loneliness. There are various reason which can cause depressions or
mood swing to an person such as heavy stress, feeling of loneliness and many more reasons.
Vulnerable people are individual that are susceptible to some-thing or emotionally and physically
wounded therefore they need to be provided proper care, support for better treatment. This report
is based on one of the case of client that is suffering from symptoms of depressions. So it
evaluates whether appropriate techniques is used by practitioners or not in the interview.
Therefore, various theories of depressions are also used to recommend key steps that can be
taken by practitioners to improve health condition of the client that is Lucy.
MAIN BODY
Critical evaluation of appropriate and inappropriate techniques used by practitioners
In the intervention session the client Lucy has symptoms of depressions that has resulted
in low mood, down, sadness, feeling of being disconnected with more and more people and more
stress. Moreover, the client is also suffering from more stress, anger and frustration that
adversely impact on its health and well- being (Yang and et.al., 2017). During the session there
are various appropriate techniques which has been used by practitioners in order to gathered
necessary information related to Lucy so that right action can be taken for care of it. Such as:
It has been identified that practitioners to collect important information from Lucy has
asked several questions that help in gathering and analysing what all problem faced by her in its
personal life. Likewise, the practitioners has asked her that from how many months she is facing
problem of depression or down so Lucy states that since 3 months it is facing the situation.
Another question asked by practitioners is that what are the reason that caused her low or down
so she clarifies that more pressure of exam has caused depression or stress to her. As she wants
to be more successful or better than others thus mentally pressurized to work hard to get good
grade for higher growth. At the same time parent marriage issue has also caused stress and
frustration to her. Therefore, it can be stated that the way it has asked several questions in order
to gathered information was appropriate techniques to handle vulnerable people such as Lucy
that is facing from depression.
Moreover, it can be stated that practitioners has also prepared notes or written down all
crucial information given by the Lucy related to the issue or emotion that she is suffering in its

personal life. So, it is one of the best techniques which has been used by practitioner to
remember what are important problem suffered by her that has caused it more stress, frustration
and mental disorder. At the same time, the practitioners way of tone that is low pitch, asking
question as per needs and preferences of people and polite nature has contributed in influencing
Lucy to share its personal issue so that corrective measures can be taken. Furthermore, it can be
illustrated that more activeness of practitioners is also effectively techniques as through active
participation in the interview session it is able to understand things or issue faced by the client
(World Health Organization, 2017). Thereby identified and planned techniques or measures that
could be used to treat the same for fruitful outcome.
On the other hand it can be stated that there are some inappropriate techniques that has
been used by practitioners to treat or deal with the patient. Such as it continue asking same and
same question despite Lucy has said that it was not much comfortable. Or she does not want to
remind the scene as it will make her sad or feel upset. So, the practitioners rather asking
repetition question needs to think more points or areas that it need to covered in order to provide
better care to patient that is Lucy.
Appropriate techniques/ behaviours and suggestion that could be used for improvement
There are above analysis it can be interpreted that there are various appropriate
techniques or behaviours which has been used by practitioners in the interview session but there
are some more areas that needs to be improved for better outcome. So in order to understand or
support appropriate techniques used by practitioners several depression theory will be used such
as:
Psychological treatment: It is a therapy in which practitioners make use of talking therapies in
order to treat the patient. Likewise, in the interview session, the practitioners of lucy has good
communication skills and thinking patterns that helps it in understanding and deciding question
that needs to be asked or not (Barnes, Mondelli and Pariante, 2017) so that necessary information
can be derived.
Humanist approaches: This is theory which illustrate that practitioners by understanding
human needs and emotion can make use of appropriate techniques that could help in gathering
information related to patient. Such as Lucy practitioners has tried to ask question to Lucy as per
its preferences so that it can comfortably answer to all the question and session can be made
successful.

Suggestion
Psychodynamic theory: These theory states that most of the case related to depression are due
to biological factors linked to loss. Furthermore, it can be interpreted that such types of
depression case mainly occurred due to loss of important relationship. Thereby, person feel more
angry when it lost relationships with its important people such as Lucy has also faced the same
situation (Cuijpers and et.al., 2017). So it is suggested that it should be provided environment or
relationship that can contribute in reducing its depression to some extend.
It can also be suggested that practitioners in order to deal with Lucy needs to make use
of cognitive behaviour therapy to monitor and change negative patterns. Thus, find appropriate
strategies that could fruitful in gaining maximum benefits (Kirsch, 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above interview session, it can be concluded that practitioners through making
use of appropriate approaches and techniques to treat patient has get maximum outcome. It is
able to identify main reason behind depression, what are its impact on its physical and mental
health. At last, it can be summarized that practitioners by making use of all the above techniques
can improve or deliver better treatment to client.
