Needs Statement 2
Many organizations globally are embracing the use of a needs statement in the
development of an organization’s proposal. This statement provides evidence and facts that
support the need for the proposal or project a company is planning to do. The statement
should be backed by evidence in terms of quantitative and qualitative data, and the data
should be current. The needs statement helps an organization to identify and solve the
problems that negatively affect operations of the company (Yuan, Pavlidis, Jain & Caster,
2016). Walmart grocery values its customers and strives to provide quality services through
offering quality products and also provision of after-sale services to its customers. The
company identified challenges in the delivery system and therefore decided to approach and
solve the problem through the development of a needs statement.
Problem Affecting Walmart Grocery
Walmart grocery is an American company that has outsourced its services to many
other countries, and it operates a chain of hypermarkets, grocery, and departmental stores. It
is the leading company in terms of revenue and employment of over two million people
(Alnaggar, Gzara & Bookbinder, 2019). Despite Walmart being the best in the world, it faces
many challenges, including the delivery system. Lack of a delivery system by Walmart firm
forced Customers to travel to the shops to buy the products. Rai, Verlinde & Macharis
(2019), stated that in Atlanta, Walmart hired third party companies, including uber and lyft,
to deliver goods to customers at their doorstep. Some countries lack uber and lyft programs,
therefore, becoming a problem for the company to deliver goods to its customers.
Data and Statistics
According to the recent reports from Cowen and the company, 13% of Walmart
customers use curbside services, accounting for 33% of Walmart's digital sales. The
company’s market share has increased globally since the invention of online shopping

services. Customers order goods online and wait for the company to deliver at their
doorsteps, but it becomes a challenge since the company lacks vehicles to transport the
products. According to Vyt, Jara & Cliquet (2017), 76% of Walmart's customers prefer
shopping online, while 24 % prefer in-store shopping. Therefore, the company should
consider the majority of customers for it to excel and satisfy their clients.
Connecting with The Heart
One of the customers I interviewed complained much about the delivery system of the
company. The use of third-party services in delivery showed a lack of consistency since the
parties do not understand the culture and values of the company (KC & Timalsina, 2016).
Different companies have their values and culture, which they tend to uphold to ensure the
smooth running of the company. Others in different countries complained about the long
distances they traveled to go and shop goods from Walmart company. The customers spent a
lot of money on transport and therefore opted for other companies.
The Hurdle
Walmart grocery is facing challenges in resolving the delivery system problem in
many countries. Besides, the push to the use of automated driver-less vehicles is prolonged
(Heller, 2017). The organization is still thinking about launching this program, which is
much costly. If the company would implement the use of automated drivers, customers will
be satisfied, and the company will be able to capture a wide market.
Conclusion
The company will be able to achieve a lot through the solving of the delivery system
problem. For example, the company will be able to reach a broader market of customers
hence increasing its revenues globally.
