Walmart`s organisational culture
Organisational culture of Walmart represents several attributes. Its culture operates with high
degree of autonomy. Corporate culture of Walmart imposes the limits how the organisation
cater the issues. It will help to facilitate organisation’s strategic implementation by engaging
shared values (Sikorski, 2017). The resilience if organisation`s human resources will face
challenges at workplace depending on the mindset as being supported corporate culture.
Undoubtedly, Walmart has a leadership position in its industry because of the synergistic
combination of organisational culture. Walmart consists of cultural components that include-
Service to the
customers
Respect for
individual
Strive for the
excellence
Action with integrity
These components can guide components that can determine company’s capabilities, which
in addition creates value in its retail service in the provision of the retail services. As per the
organisational cultural theory, the organisation prioritise the customers in operations, which
further identify the contribution of every employee towards the success of the company.
Apart from this, the organisation strives to achieve excellent performance of workers, team,
and the whole company. While maintaining integrity, it is seen that Walmart promotes the
virtue of fairness, and the impartial regarding the decision-making (Sikorski, 2017).
Assess the effectiveness of the formal and informal structures in supporting employee perfor
mance.
The company`s functional organisational structure has two features either hierarchical or
functional based. This feature pertains to vertical lines of command in organisational
structure. For instance- CEO in Walmart is the main supervisor and decision maker for the
implementation of new strategies (Bokhari, 2016). Directors and mandates has come up to
the top levels of Walmart`s management to implement with the help of middle managers.

Managerial influence and control will be maximised with corporate structure rather than
extension in applying the beleifs in relation to the organisational culture. These beliefs are
ideal where the organisation is criticised regarding the failure while addressing the employees
especially when the employees are low paid. One of the suitable recommendation for the
Walmart is the implementation of effective measures to fulfil respect for an individual feature
of organisational culture.
The company follows formal structure of hierarchy where supervisor will take the main
decisions. Therefore, the company also has various departments such as operational
department, logistics department, human resource department, IT system, marketing
department, and finance department (Winangsih, Makmur, & Tahmir, 2017). For instance-
new policies and strategies are formulated at organisational headquarter and then passing it to
other people while considering the functional organisational structure. Downside, Walmart
does not avail major support to delegation of authorities and decision making then it comes to
informal organisational structure. Corporate structure avails minimal support to create
flexibility in the organisation. The lower level of organisational structure can not easily
minimise the business practises sue to its lengthy procedure and its communication after
approval that is included in middle manager and the corporate manager at the Walmart head
office (BĂCILĂ, & Muscalu, 2018).
Functional or dysfunctional effects on people and the organization
While learning about the function and dysfunction of company culture includes several
functions, which are quite helpful to achieve the highest performance of the employees. The
core function of culture measures to help in creating difference between Walmart and other
retail companies. Good organisational culture promotes the employees to follow code of
ethics by availing a sense of identity for the members (Sapada, Modding, Gani, & Nujum,
2018). Culture facilities the generation of commitment to achieve larger as compared to the

individual self-interest. Appropriate culture encourages the members to allocate priority
towards the organisational interests all above the personal interests but most importantly, a
manager can accomplish and ensure that it follows Maslow`s hierarchy motivational theory.
Culture finally ensures there is a sense making and control mechanism, which can guide the
attitudes of employees contributing towards the positive behaviour of company. On the other
hand, culture has been proved as a liability to accomplish company`s barriers such as barriers
to change, barriers to diversity, and barriers to acquisitions and mergers. Walmart often faces
barriers to change and barriers due to diversity. For example- at each department, the
Walmart brings out to depend on diversified cultured people for varied tasks so leader will
have to formulate emails and communication sources in such a way that it does not hurt
anyone (Bokhari, 2016).
