ROMAN HISTORY 2
What did the War of 1812 accomplish and what did not accomplish?
There were two main accomplishments that were gained through the 1812 war. The
first one was that peace was reinstalled between Britain and the United States. The war ended
in signing up the treaty of Ghent between the American and the British which helped
establish peace (Skeen, 2015). The second main achievement of the war was that the United
States gained the state of a superpower. This war was declared by the United States of
America against the British. At that time, Britain was considered too powerful when
compared with the United States. Due to this, most of the other countries viewed the United
States with a different lens, that is, that of being powerful. The war, therefore, laid a good
foundation for the United States to become prosperous.
Although the war had the achievements described above, it is said that the war was
not worth it. This is because the United States failed to achieve its military objectives and the
war resulted in numerous deaths that were not warranted (Heideking, 2017). In addition to
this, the United States did not achieve the border changes that it wanted. During post-war, the
boundaries remained unchanged. In addition, the US did not gain any changes in British
policy. All the changes that had been proposed were not met. Therefore, the way failed in
accomplishing most of its goals.
