AI Summary
This presentation provides an overview of water pollution in Queensland, Australia, examining its causes, effects, and potential solutions. The research highlights the impact of political, economic, social, and technological factors on environmental change, with a focus on both natural and human-induced causes of water pollution. Key issues discussed include the effects of acid rain, eutrophication, and global warming, as well as the impact of urbanization, uncontrolled sewage, intensive agriculture, and industrialization. The presentation also addresses the consequences of water pollution, such as the accumulation of toxic chemicals in marine life and humans, uneven rainfall distribution, and the degradation of agricultural lands, fisheries, and natural resources like the Great Barrier Reef. Furthermore, it outlines the regulations imposed by the Australian and Queensland governments, including the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981, and explores treatment technologies and emerging pollutant detection methods. The presentation concludes by emphasizing the importance of raising public awareness, promoting corporate social responsibility, and encouraging water recycling to mitigate water pollution in the region. 1AUSTRALIA’S WATER POLLUTION
Abstract
The presentation is based on the extensive research on identifying various facets of water
pollution in the Queensland of Australia. This presentation is based on the peer reviewed articles
reflecting the factors of water pollution. There are several political, economic, social and
technological matters that are directly related to the environmental change. This environmental
change is reflected in the increasing level of water pollution. Some of the cusses of water
pollution are however, natural but most of them are the result of human actions.
Fresh water is essential for the survival of life on this earth hence people need to take
responsibilities to prevent water pollution in a regular basis. The natural phenomena of water
pollution include, acid rain, eutrophication and global warming. These are leading to pollution of
water in the Queensland area of Australia as well as the whole world. In the human causes of
water pollution, excessive urbanization in small part of the region leads to higher level of
population and this one of the most important reasons of water pollution. The ground water is
becoming polluted through uncontrolled sewage system in these households for which the people
have no awareness. In addition to this, intensive agriculture is another important reason of water
pollution. The farmers are using huge amount of fertilizers and chemical pesticides are used to
pollute water. Industrialization leading to huge number of factories for different types of business
are growing and supporting the economy of Australia but increasing water pollution.
Due to these reasons of water pollution the effects have become more intense. These are
leading to the accumulation of chemicals from pesticides, heavy metal and other toxic compound
in the body of sea animals and human beings through water intake. Chemical pollution
originated from the chemical wastes of the industries are leading to increase of acid rain. Water

pollution is leading to the uneven rainfall distribution in the lands which is affecting the water
balance in nature. Due to water pollution, agricultural lands, fisheries and natural resources
mainly the great barrier reef and the tourist attraction are being affected which is leading
economic uncertainty.
In order to prevent such situation, the government of Australia has issued some
regulations. Under the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981 (Commonwealth) it is
an offence to dump or incinerate a controlled material into Australian waters. The Queensland
government has also imposed various regulations on the factories to reduce chemical wastes.
There are numerous treatment technologies which are used in the prevention of water pollution
and reducing increasing contamination of freshwater systems. Emerging pollutants detection is
another technological aspect that can save water from polluting. Marine water purification
system has been started to be utilized in the country. Therefore, it can be concluded that creation
of awareness among the people of the region to enhance knowledge about the method of
preventing water pollution and motivating the industries to being change in the CSR policies and
recycle water will help the government to reduce water pollution.
