Introduction
Environmental problems generally refer to the harmful effects of the activities of
human beings on the biophysical environment of the concerned area. These issues generally
refer to those that pertain to the conditions of global warming, water and air pollution,
deforestation, the overpopulation of the area, the extinction of some species of any particular
animal, the destruction of the biodiversity of the concerned area, soil erosion and other such
issues that are related to the change in the climate.
The following report deals with the marine life disaster that took place in Vietnam in
the year 2016. This had been the result of the discharge of the toxic waste from the industrial
sectors in to the ocean through the drainage pipes. The report opens with a discussion of the
major causes of water pollution in the country of Vietnam. The report then proceeds to
discuss the most massive instance of water pollution in the country, the Formosa incident.
The report finally comes to its end with the recommendations towards the solutions to the
problems that have been highlighted due to the pollution caused by the drainage of the
chemical pollutants into the ocean.
Recommendations
From the above discussion, it may be pointed out that the Vietnamese government
must implement stricter policies in order to avoid disasters of such huge scale in the future.
According to the reports, the incident had resulted from the unlawful drainage of the
industrial waste in to the ocean which had resulted in the destruction of the marine
ecosystem. The government of the country must look into the issues pertaining to the release
of the toxic materials into the sea which might hamper the economy of the country as well.
The release of the toxic waste from the Formosa had resulted in the death of a huge number
of the marine fauna and even led to the destruction of the corals that were present within the

range of the oil spill. The government of Vietnam might be able to save such situations in the
future by the installation of waste water treatment plants that would help to deal with the
water pollution in the country that has been caused due to the industrial wastes (Export.gov
2018).
The government must ensure that the drainage and the sewage systems of the country
are well-equipped to handle the industrial waste materials (English.vietnamnet.vn 2018). This
might help to avoid the situations involving the number of the issues regarding the damage to
the marine fauna that might come up in the future. The economy of the country had also
faced a huge set back due to the disaster that had occurred. A huge part of the income of the
Vietnam government is based on the export of the seafood to the other countries. The export
to the other countries has also faced a setback due to the fear of poisoning that might have
affected the marine animals due to the drainage of the deadly chemicals into the ocean by
Formosa.
The people residing in Vietnam must be made aware of the challenges that the
country is facing in terms of the environmental degradation during the present times. The
residents must be encouraged to minimize the amount of water pollution that might be caused
due to their activities. The residents of the country should be advised to report any kind of
pollution that involves the water bodies (Jacobs et al. 2015). The people residing in the
country should be encouraged to participate in the various events and campaigns that are
organized by the multitude of the organizations that are present within the country. The
people of the country should be made aware as to report any instance wherein the industrial
wastes are being released into the water bodies which may suffice as the sources for the
drinking water or the source of food for both the people of the country and the people of the
countries wherein the seafood is exported.

The various business houses operating within Vietnam that deal with harmful
chemical waste should be advised to refrain from releasing the generated waste materials into
the rivers, lakes and the oceans. The business houses should be encouraged to install the
water treatment facilities that might help to process the liquid waste products that are released
during the manufacture of the various products. The business owners should be encouraged to
use bio-degradable materials in the manufacturing process in order to help lower the rate of
water pollution that might have been taking place due to the harmful discharges (Mahanty
and Dang 2013). The government must implement policies in order to bar the various
companies to drain all the waste materials that are generated in the manufacturing process in
to the water bodies that hold the source of food materials which serve both the residents of
the country as well as earn revenue for the country due to being exported to the other
countries.
Conclusion
In lieu of the above discussion it might be said that the water pollution is a major
issue that has been troubling the Vietnamese government in the recent times. Vietnam had
been facing the issues related to the water pollution in the oceans. The most important issue
that the government might be facing is the drainage of deadly chemicals into the ocean by
Formosa. The above report deals with the various problems that may arise due to the
pollution of the ocean water. The major problems that have been addressed in the report deals
with the economic issues that the country has been facing due to the destruction of the marine
life. The areas that were majorly affected due to the issue are the tourism industry and the
industry related to the export of the seafood organisms.
