Introduction
Water resource management is an amalgamation
of different activities which includes developing,
planning, distributing, and managing. The main
objective of hydrology or water resource
management is to ensure that the allocation of
water resources should be conducted in an
optimum way, ensuring that all the needs and
demands of the society and the environment are
being fulfilled. In the United Kingdom, places like
Southern England, Wales, London, and many more
are facing water shortage problems. The main
reasons behind this shortage are wastage of
water due to the damaged pipeline, misuse of
water, climatic changes and many more. All these
different issues associated with water shortage
has increased the rate of wastage of water in the
United Kingdom.

Aims & Objectives
To address the different issues associated with
the shortage of water and the huge alarming
signs that have been made for the serious
problems which the country will face by 2040, it is
crucial that the water resource management
system should have the following aims and
objectives –
 The assessment of the different water
resources like rivers, lakes, streams, oceans,
and groundwater.
 The water resource system should address the
problems of water leakage through pipes and
misuse of water. Both these problems have
increased the level of water shortage in the
United Kingdom.

Core Literature
Water is a necessity that governs the different day
to day activities of the society and the
environment. According to Jennings, et al., some of
the various aspects like climate changes, increased
abstractions, growing population, and intensified
agricultural techniques for better productions are a
few of the aspects that have increased the
pressure on the availability of water (Jennings et
al., 2009). According to Forslund, et al., due to the
institutional fragmentation there are chances of
failing in the antagonistic management as they
mostly overlook the crucial aspect of maintaining a
healthy ecosystem (Forslund et al., 2009).
