INTRODUCTION
Caring is apparent as human behaviour includes cognitive, emotional, psychomotor and
managerial skills in which qualified caring may be articulated. Caring is also practised in the
connection, mutual recognition and involvement in between nurse and patient. Caring in the
nursing profession takes place when a nurse has contact with a patient with the commitment and
hope to provide appropriate care. As per Watson’s theory, the goal of nursing helps a service
user to accomplish harmony within soul, body and mind. The present report is based on Nursing
and care provided to patients. Further, this report will cover a way of developing my own
individual philosophy on professional caring with the use of Watson’s caring theory. Apart from
this, the way caring leads to influence an individual to become a nurse in the future will be
described.

REFLECTION
The reason behind choosing this image is that it reflects how an individual suffers from
pain due to diseases or disability. Hence, it leads to motivate me to choose nursing career. Along
with this, nursing field will provide me an opportunity to understand the emotions of patient and
the way to provide them care so that they can overcome their health issues. Apart from this,
image shows that it is important for nurses to spend their quality time with patients and their
family. Apart from this, the above provided image reflect the way nurses provide care to old age
people who are not capable enough to take care of themselves. It shows dedication and emotional
feeling of nurse toward the old age women .
OWN INDIVIDUAL PHILOSOPHY OF PROFESSIONAL CARING
I selected nursing as my profession because I strongly wanted to show my commitment
towards the patients and profession. I like to care people who are unable to take care of
themselves due to diseases, disability or because of old age. Nursing is known as praiseworthy
career and it cannot be treated as the only job to earn money (Watson and Brewer, 2015). It is
important to have some sympathy towards patients and understanding a problem from which
they are suffering in order to provide proper care to them. In this regard, my aim is to provide
high-quality non-judgemental care to those who are suffering from a disability. My philosophy is
that nurses should have a responsibility in order to render patient-centred care. As per my view,
patients are not only those to whom treatment is provided according to the prescribed treatment.
But individually, they need a proper care and attention which help them faster in healing their
health issues.
It is important to integrate different theories into a practice that helps in providing
appropriate care to patients. A person-centred care approach to nursing focuses on the
individual’s needs, desires and wants in order to make it central to the care and nursing process
(Peter and Watt-Watson, 2016). As per the person-centred care approach, for working as a nurse,
it is essential for me to provide care to patients which is meaningful. I need to empower service
users by encouraging them to become capable enough in their own care. Being nurses, it is
important to involve family members and friends in a treatment in order to improve the
outcomes. Hence, by adopting truly person-centred care, one of the key objectives for the
nursing profession can be achieved (Rosenau, Watson and Dobbs, 2015).

I have strongly identified that my personal and professional philosophies are consistent
because of my personal values and driving forces to adopt nursing as career. To work according
to my philosophy, it is important for me to understand that I am not perfect and I can always
learn new things from a different situation that is being faced by me. There are many
assumptions in Watson theory of care which help in promoting the care (Hockenberry and
Wilson, 2014). As per the theory, nurses should not only focus on treatment but ensure proper
care provided to them. Along with this, it shows the way patients can be provided treatment
physically and emotionally. (Morton, Fontaine and Gallo, 2017). My philosophy is similar with
the Watson’s theory I also believed that an individual should not be treated as only a patient.
I can show my ability to care by following all the assumptions of Watson’s theory. Apart
from this, it is important to hold professional and personal ethical standards with respect to
provide proper care. I can show my care in the way that I can connect with them and
communicate in an effective manner. As a nurse, I realized that I have responsibility towards
supporting patients in improving their health. I also believe that I should have knowledge about
the physical as well as mental condition of patient to whom I am providing care. I also perceive
that I need to use clinical judgment. This will assist me in identifying the needs of patient and
providing satisfaction to them by fulfilling the demand of service user. I have been taught at the
first day of my training that I should maintain the confidentiality of information provided by
patient or their family members as this will assist me in eliminating any legal obligations.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that caring is known as behaviour which is
different from simplicity of complexity with respect to understand and perceive it. In other
words, it is a way of delivering quality services, safe support and proper care to patients. While
carrying out nursing practices, it is important to incorporate different theories that can help in
providing proper care without adopting any unethical behaviour. As per Watson’s theory, the
goal of nursing helps a service user to accomplish harmony within soul, body and mind. Further,
it can be articulated that nurses should seek self-improvement through continuous learning. To
choose nursing as a career is one of the great opportunity to connect with people who suffer from
health issues and disability.
