Summary: Technology and Upgrade Strategies
Based on the information we have obtained regarding the network requirements for the MyPlace
network environment, we have complied a proposal to address the concerns and best meet the
needs of the corporation. The proposal includes several upgrades and additions to the internal
technology environment that would improve the customer’s experience, and therefore increase
revenue streams. More specifically, customer facing environment would be improved to include
additional services, functions, and conveniences to the users. The table below summarizes the
proposed upgrades and additions to the network.

Introduction
In this present paper, we will discuss the project proposal for the internal messaging solution
which helps to resolve the problem of effective communication within an organization in order to
achieve the desired goals within the specific period of time. The Cisco Company is proposed as a
vendor in order to implement the unified messaging solution within the organization which
provides the high quality of solution within affordable cost.
Background information
MyPlace.org is a new information technology company that aims to become most popular social
websites among the competitors within the same industry. The features of the social website
include auction site in which users can post their items for sale, they can also post reviews, and
photos can be uploaded to the gallery. As the total employees of the company will be hundred so

service helps to improve the communication system, and it enables to locate organization. The
implementation of software can be done by Cisco within three weeks in order to provide a
unified communication system with lightweight dictionary access protocol. The implementation
requires various costs such as purchasing of software cost, hardware cost, implementation cost,
training cost, and human resource cost in order to successfully implement the unified messaging

4. WAN Technology
In this moment, Myplace.org is located in Center City Philadelphia at 15th and Pine. The facilities
of the company would be located in Bucks County, then, it would be necessary to establish a
WAN connection between both locations.
The ATM or Asynchronous Transfer Mode even though it is a complex technology, represents a
good option because it supports connections of high bandwidth demand, such as video and voice.
ATM facilitates the efficient sharing of bandwidth among applications with various QoS
requirements.
In order to minimize costs with the implementation of ATM technologies, since interfaces for
routers and switches are expensive, it is recommended to ask the provider to allow the use of an

After analyzing the goals and technical needs of Myplace.org the next step is to select a WAN

Network Cabling
The MyPlace Network project will require three types of cabling – Copper cabling, Fiber Optic
cabling, and Multi-Mode Fiber Optics. These cable types are split into categories based upon
their physical location, speed, and purpose. There are three physical spaces that require cabling
upgrades: the data center, internal office, and plenum space. Below you will find a description
of each of the types of cables, followed by an explanation of where they will be placed. The
802.3ae protocol is recommended for the Ethernet over Fiber Optic cabling, while the 802.3ab
protocol is recommended for the Gigabit Ethernet over copper twisted pair cabling. The 802.3
network protocols have advantages over other protocols because they provide Carrier-sense

multiple access with collision detection (CSMA/CD), which provides support for a onetime
repeater for each collision domain and manages full and half duplex connections. This prevents
sessions from being lost when multiple requests are sent to are sent and received.
Cabling Descriptions
Copper Cabling
The most common up to date copper cable in use today is Category 6, or Cat 6. This grade of
cable can of reach lengths of 168ft before requiring a switch or repeater to extend the range of its
connections. In addition, Cat 6 is capable of transferring data to speeds up to 10 Gbps. Another
advantage of Cat 6 is that it comes in two types, Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) and Unshielded
Twisted pair (UTP), both of which utilize the same RJ-45 connecter type. The STP variety of
cabling differs from the UTP type because it has an internal coating that protects the copper core
from electric interference, commonly referred to as “cross talk” or “noise.” This interference can
cause signal interruptions, and therefore performance issues, which can make it difficult for
packets and frames to travel across the network. STP is much more expensive and is generally
used in spaces such as plenum or bare space with components nearby that produce interference,
such as electrical junctions, lighting fixtures, and so on. These cables are generally run inside of
walls, ceilings and other areas with high levels of noise.
UTP copper cabling is generally used for all other portions of the network that do not have
environmental effects such as interference. They are much cheaper than STP cables and are a
standard for connecting peripherals, workstations and other network devices in spaces without
interference.
Fiber Optic Cabling
Fiber Optic Cabling utilizes laser light that is reflected inside of its inner coating throughout the
cable from the source to its destination. Fiber Optic Cabling comes in several different types
which also have connectors for terminating the cable. The most common cabling type are Single
Mode and Multi-Mode.
Single Mode Fiber Optic Cabling is typically used for long connections which require two runs
of cable which require one cable for uplink, and one for downloading connections from up and

downstream resources. These cables are generally used for longer runs because the light levels
that are emitted from the source can travel much further in a single direction and generally do not
require a repeater to amplify the light levels for long runs. Single Mode fiber can reach lengths of
Multi-Mode Fiber Optics cabling is generally used for short distance connections which require
high speed data transfer. Multi-Mode Optics consist of two identical cables attached in a parallel
fashioned which allows for both uplink and download functions. These types of appliances are
typically used in data centers to interconnect routers, switches, servers and other network based
devices which require high data transfer rates.

Placement on the network
The Data Center
For the data center connections at the MyPlace site, we will need to increase network bandwidth
with speeds up to 40G and 80GBps. For this task, we will need to utilize Fiber Optic Cabling.
This will help us interconnect the core network, which includes the juniper switches, routers,
barracuda firewalls and A10 load balancers and the servers. For the management network or out
of band (OOB) connections which include ILO and the terminal server connections, we will

utilize Cat 6 copper UTP cabling. This is because management connections require less
bandwidth.
Internal Office
For the MyPlace internal office, I have selected Category 6 copper UTP or Unshielded Twisted
Pair for the workstations and other peripherals. I have selected the UTP variety because it is less
expensive and the Shielded Twisted Pair is generally used in plenum spaces or portions of the
network that have higher levels of interference. The UTP variety is a very versatile type of
cabling that can be used for many purposes.
Plenum Space
To cover the cabling needs for this project, we must also consider the plenum space which will
require STP cabling to ensure network reliability and performance. After performing a series aof
research on cabling types, we have decided that Cat 6 STP cabling will be used to connect the
patch panels in the communications closets to the wall panels in the office space.
Server Hardware
After performing various levels of research, we have selected HP DL360 Gen 9 Servers for our
server hardware. These devices are HP’s high level, high performance blade servers which are
very reliable and versatile. We have decided to use HP servers because they have a built-in
server management component called Integrated Lights Out (ILO), which allows systems
administrators to troubleshoot and perform various functions remotely without the need of a
separate terminal server console and a very elaborate network management setup. ILO also has a
remote console which allows systems administrators to reach the server operating system
remotely which is a very important feature. These components help simplify the network stack
and improve the response time, and helps minimize outages. In addition, HP servers have several
upgrade slots that will allow for upgrades in the future. One of the immediate upgrades will be to
the network interface card (NIC). We will utilize HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-Port 560SFP+ adapter, to
help us reach network speeds up to 20GB with port bonding.

The Next phase of the network upgrade plan is to provide new network hardware. This hardware
will include new, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and vpn concentrators. To meet the
requirements of the project and to also stay within the budget, we have selected the most
efficient, reliable and compatible technology.
Since there are thousands of vendors and brands to choose from, we have narrowed are list down
to the companies that have the best, support, warranty, and customer service. In addition, we
have made sure that the companies meet the criteria mentioned in the initial inquiry that
stipulated the following:
The company must have more than 10 employees
The company must have a solid business history with more than 2 years of operational
success
The company should provide support and warranty options
The equipment must be reliable and scalable.
The following vendors were selected because they meet the requirements of the CIO, and CEO
of MyPlace and in addition offer competitive pricing for the equipment we are considering.
Hardware Breakdown
We have selected Juniper networks for the routers and switches on the network. We have made
this decision because Juniper provides reliable, scalable, equipment with 24/7 support with a 4
hour SLA for emergency issues. They also provide a customer portal as well as on site tailored
training for the equipment purchased. In addition to the amazing features of their technology,
juniper also provides an extended warranty with options for upgrading end of life hardware, to
help the company stay up to date with current technology trends. Along with the positive
personal experience I have received from this vendor, I would strongly recommend them for this
project.

Work Groups
For the network domain, we will utilize workgroups for managing user permissions. At the high-
level we will utilize the Domain Roles with user profiles for handling permissions and account
settings. The network will be devided in to several workgroups to allow segmentation security
and reliability. These workgroups will be managed by the Windows Domain Controller with
