The primary purpose of this assignment is describing my professional and personal
background along with demonstrating the professional and personal goal regarding the
course.
Education and the professional background:
I am Oluseun Akintunlaji, and I currently reside in Dallas, Texas. I have three boys. I was
born and bred in Nigeria where I have obtained a BSC degree in Metallurgical and material
engineering from the Federal University of Technology College. In the year 2008, I have
migrated to US where I have taken my first job which was working with the physically
challenged people. This job was the main reason that was developed a passion among me
regarding nursing.
Among different professions, nursing is one of the most rewarding professions (Manojlovich
& Ketefian, 2016). Nurses are the most trusted healthcare professionals, and they are with the
patients throughout their journey to get a natural and faster cure from various diseases (Cho
& Kim, 2014). For a patient, nurses are the teacher, advocates, critical thinker as well as
innovator. For this reason, the nursing profession had created a love among me (Tanaka et al.
2016). After identifying my passion for nursing, I have enrolled myself in a great nursing
school where I have obtained BSN at Felician University, New Jersey.
Currently, I am working as one psychiatric nurse as well as correctional health nurse. Now, I
have a psychiatric mental health nursing certificates. Moreover, I have planned to get a
certification on the certified addiction registered nurse. I know about correctional behavioral
health, continence care, critical care and correctional health.
I have developed diversified knowledge that was helpful for me in becoming flexible,
efficient and hard working. As I am a psychiatric nurse so for playing my role with
efficiencies, I have developed an effective interpersonal as well as presentation skill. I have

excellent multi-tasking skills along with a quick learning skill that is helpful for me in
offering an extensive service to the patient so that they can get excellent service. I like to take
new challenges
Professional goal:
My personal goal is to do my best to improve the mental health of the patient. My
professional goal is to become a successful psychiatric mental health nurse. By considering
the vision and mission statement of the university regarding the course, I can say that the new
course could help me in transforming the mental health of the patient. This specialization can
help me in treating some mental disorders that are ranging from anxiety to schizophrenia.
This goal is helpful for me in diagnosing the disorders of the patients and developing a better
care plan for the patient. As a professional, I want to serve the patient with mental illness so
that the patient can get a faster recovery of their mental health.
Course outcome:
During the course, the most challenging thing for me is the learning environment which is
entirely new to me. Though this course, I can improve my theoretical as well as practical
knowledge to offer better mental healthcare related care to the patients. Moreover, the course
is also helpful for me in developing the ability of mine in planning and managing time so that
I can be involved in providing care to patients with more efficiency. There are different areas
in which I needed an active growth. I was not included in the study for a longer time as well
as the APA style of writing is new to me. Therefore, the courses offered by Weldon
University can help me in improving this skill. For enhancing the knowledge regarding
American psychological association writing ability, I have planned to access and read
different types of webinars that the Weldon University offered. Moreover, by taking help
from the tutors of Weldon University, I can improve the knowledge.
