Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment presents a detailed analysis of a mental health and wellbeing case study, focusing on a patient named Munny Kaew. The analysis begins by identifying the urgent risk area as nutrition, highlighting Munny's lack of interest in eating and significant weight loss. The recommended treatment includes multiple vitamin injections to address potential vitamin deficiencies. The assignment then explores the likelihood of Munny experiencing depression, considering his recent traumatic life events, including the death of his mother, past trauma, and work-related stress. The proposed treatment for depression is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). The assignment also addresses legal issues, emphasizing patient confidentiality and Munny's right to refuse treatment. The references provided support the analysis with relevant research on nutrition, depression treatment, and legal considerations in nursing practice. This assignment provides a comprehensive understanding of the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a mental health case within a healthcare context.

Question 1
A
The urgent risk area regarding Munny Kaew is nutrition. This is because Munny Kaew
has not shown any interest in eating. Furthermore, his wife Ary stated that Munny Kaew had
experienced a significant amount of weight loss. This is evident by the fact that the nurse noticed
that even though Munny Kaew had dressed well, his clothes seemed loose fitting.
B
The nurse should administer a dosage of multiple vitamin injections (Wallace,
McBurney, & Fulgoni 2014). Multiple vitamin injection contains vitamins such as ascorbic acid,
vitamin D, vitamin A, Vitamin K, and Vitamin B12.Additionally, multiple vitamin injection also
contains other body nutrients such as folic acid, thiamine, niacinamide, vitamin E, riboflavin,
biotin, dexpanthenol, and pyridoxine. Therefore, the dosage would help supplement the vitamins
and nutrients in Munny’s body. As a result, even if Munny Kaew does not eat, the multiple
vitamin injection will help prevent vitamin deficiency or malnutrition. The nurse should mix the
two vials which are part of the multiple vitamin injection before applying it. Furthermore, after
mixing the two vials, the nurse should dilute the mixture, after which he/she will administer the
medication immediately to Munny Kaew through intravenous infusion (Wallace, McBurney, &
Fulgoni 2014).

Munny is likely to be experiencing depression. According to (Olfson, Blanco & Marcus,
2016), individuals are likely to experience depression if they have experienced traumatic life
events. This is evident from the fact that Munny’s mother died recently, and Munny did not take
time to mourn. This is despite the fact that Munny was very close to his mother. Additionally,
when he was young, Munny was subjected to mental torture through the death of his father, who
was killed. Even though they escaped to Thailand, Munny had to live in a refugee camp for some
years before relocating to Australia. Furthermore, even though Munny feels like he is doing a
great job at work, his employer is not satisfied and told Munny that he would fire him if he did
not improve. Additionally, as stated by (Olfson et al., 2016), signs and symptoms of depression
include depressed mood which is shown by Munny’s lack of communication and not engaging in
any activity around the house, hypersomnia which is evident by Munny spending a lot of his
time in bed, and low appetite or unintentional weight loss. Furthermore, depression is also
characterized by a lack of interest in activities that an individual previously enjoyed. This is
evident by the fact that Munny rarely notices his kids, who were previously his main attention.
B
The nurse should administer a dosage of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to Munny
immediately. This is because SSRIs are very effective in the treatment of depression, and they
have very minimal side effects compared to other types of depressants.
Question 3
The first legal issue the nurse must consider is patient confidentiality (Griffith &
Tengnah, 2017). This is because, nurses are responsible for keeping the confidentiality of
information provided by the convalescent in this case, Mr. Munny. This will help create trust

between Munny and the nurse because Munny will be sure that the information will be applied
for treatment purposes only and not to be shared with irrelevant parties.
The second legal issue the nurse must consider is that Munny has the right to refuse
treatment. Because the medications are not authorized by the court and the situation is not an
emergency, Munny can decide not to take the prescribed medicine and choose other types of
medication (Griffith & Tengnah, 2017).
