Action Plan
Introduction
Following the increasing incidences of obesity in the United States of America, there has
been need to curb the crisis. However, the problem is accompanied with huge costs. Thus
community development is the most economical way of ensuring healthy people come 2020
regarding the obesity crisis. Therefore, this paper is designed to bring forth an action plan for
implementing a community development project in West Virginia as a fundamental strategy of
creating awareness regarding the management strategies of obesity.
Objectives
To empower the community regarding obesity in terms of the causes and overall
understanding of the disease.
To educate the community regarding the strategies to be employed in managing obesity
in society.
Implementation Plan
Action 1: Start meetings of the leaders and national authority representatives like
cooperative extension service educators and professional associations fundamentally to promote
common interests towards the implementation of obesity management recommendations and
build a series of mutual development initiatives relating to the achievement of the desired
objectives. Such meetings will minimize the tendency of opinion makers to concentrate on
differences regarding the management of obesity rather than similarities in curbing the crisis as
they arise from such organizations. Messages that promote mutual understanding are of more
effect and credibility. However, each organization may be interested in promoting individual

visibility towards the efforts of curbing the crisis. Therefore, this stage will involve the use of
financial incentives through fund raising abilities to enhance cooperative efforts.
Action 2: Review of various materials prepared by diverse professional groups regarding
the management of obesity. Consistency is a vital concept while educating the public. Therefore,
it is vital for the director of the community development program to review all the materials that
are prepared by different professional groups to promote consistency. This intervention will
prevent disparities during the development process.
Action 3: Develop a committee made of authors and publishers to develop a series of
guidelines that will be used by publishers to provide consistent and authoritative information
regarding the management of obesity. This committee shall play a vital role in developing
guidelines and materials relating to the management of obesity. The committee will also
document the skills necessary for the implementation of diabetes management recommendations.
The products of the committee shall be distributed to major publishers in the field of health to
guide them in the development of new and revised publications regarding the management of
obesity.
Action 4: Develop a panel that will evaluate and review education materials available to
teachers in various educational departments across the community (NCBI, 2018). Due to the
financial constraints circumnavigating schools and other educational departments, teachers are
forced to utilize materials which are either offered freely or at lower prices despite having
incomplete and inaccurate information. Therefore, a committee that will review such materials is
necessary to promote consistency of messages available to the public regarding the management
of obesity.

Justification for the Project
Obesity is becoming a fundamental issue in the United States of America (FRAC, 2019).
Obesity is also associated with heavy costs in the U.S. (Dietz, 2017). Obesity among the adults
has been periodically increasing in states such as South Carolina, Oklahoma, Lowa, Rhode
Island, Ohio, and Massachusetts. Obesity among the adults is maintained above 35% in the
above-mentioned nations with the least value of 30% in other twenty-nine states. Obesity is
highest in West Virginia (38.1%) (Mark, 2018). This report is not just justified upon the rising
cases of obesity in the US but the health complications circumnavigating obesity crisis. For
instance, West Virginia records the highest number of patients with diabetes (15.2%) (State of

related health complications such as hypertension and diabetes. Therefore, 2020 wellbeing of the
people depends on the ability to settle the obesity crisis through community development.
